Job Summary
We are seeking an Advanced Practice Provider for our Duke Cardiothoracic Surgery Outpatient Clinic, located in Durham, NC on the Duke University Hospital campus to work in collaboration with attending physicians, collect and document data, conduct diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, order and schedule laboratory studies and professional consultations, and provide direct patient care services.
Primary hours will be Monday through Friday, during regular clinic hours with hours flexible to meet the needs of the patients. There are no night, weekend, or holiday shifts for this outpatient-based position.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to assistphysician in diagnosing medical and surgical problems and prescribing necessary treatment and services for quality patient care; record the normal and abnormal data for review by the physician.
Take patient histories, conduct physical examinations, and record the date in the patient's record; write progress notes; prepare patient workups and summaries noting pertinent positive and negative findings; obtain psychosocial history relevant to patient care, and assume responsibility for developing therapeutic relationships with patients.
Order and schedule laboratory studies and diagnostic procedures; explain necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the patient.
Triage outpatient phone calls and coordinate all necessary efforts in support of direct patient care. Communicate with family members regarding patient care and concerns; provide patient care support and follow up to ensure patient care is coordinated/communicated effectively; provide clinical instruction and oversight to nursing staff. Ensure appropriate communication with all referring physicians. Work with the hospital nursing team, residents, fellows, inpatient APPs, etc., upon transition of care to outpatient coverage.
Initiate referrals to other healthcare providers, and/or consults with the attending physician(s) or the collaborating physician.
Provide timely documentation in the electronic medical record of all relevant data including results of diagnostic tests; laboratory results; patients' condition and response to therapies/interventions; communications with physician colleagues and other healthcare providers.
Review outside records including clinic notes, hospital records, imaging, lab, and other test results
Analyze clinical practice patterns to provide the best medical care and to increase effectiveness and efficiency.
Attendance at Surgery Grand Rounds and participation in other divisional educational events is encouraged.
Job Eligibility Requirements
Education
Nurse Practitioners: Work requires completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master's degree in Nursing.
PhysicianAssistants: Completion of an accredited PhysicianAssistant program. A Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred.
Certification
BLS required.
License
Nurse Practitioners: Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BLS required. National certification as a NP required prior to or within 6 months of employment.
PhysicianAssistants: Must be licensed in the state of NC, and be certified as a PhysicianAssistant by the National Commission on Certification of PhysicianAssistants.
Experience

Details:
Program is run on an annual basis for 2-4 new graduates, training over 4 months, working full time with hours divided between time in center and didactic time.
Mandatory weekly lecture day as well as self-learning.
Attendance of important program related and Go Health related meetings is mandatory which includes but is not limited to didactics, skills lab, and monthly Town Halls.
Clinical shifts for the duration of the program alongside senior preceptors for hands-on learning, as well as skills labs for procedural training.
The program is broken down into a series of phases, each concluding with an evaluation which must be passed successfully to move on to the next phase of the program. Failure to do so may result in dismissal from the training program.
Associates will be evaluated and monitored by our program directors, preceptors, faculty, and core faculty throughout the duration of the program. Failure to meet the expectations and rigors of the program may result in disciplinary action that includes remediation measures or dismissal from the program.
Associates will be expected to float through different centers during their clinical rotations which may require travel into a different regions.
Associates are expected to complete their assigned self-study materials which includes and is not limited to pre-didactic learning material, online lectures and reading material.
Associates are expected to accurately report and maintain a procedure log and exhibit competency with required procedures to successfully complete the program.
Associates will also be reviewed based on Go Health's quality metrics and policies which includes and is not limited to Net Promoter Score (NPS), attendance, and antibiotic stewardship.
Associates entitled to full time employee benefits during their time in program.
At completion of the new graduate training program, associates may be offered continued full-time employment based on the regional and market needs.

You will:
Provide Primary and Family evidenced-based care inclusive of accurate assessment, diagnosis, treatment, management of health problems, health counseling, and disposition planning for our patients.
Provide administrative duties to include but not limited to opening/closing the clinic, inventory, patient follow up, verifying insurance and collecting payment, maintaining a clean environment.
Be responsible for handling patient appointments and performing routing examinations to ensure positive patient health outcomes
Perform duties including speaking with patients about healthy lifestyle choices, completing diagnostic tests to help diagnose and treat patients for injuries or illnesses and coordinating with other healthcare professionals to maintain a comprehensive plan of care
Encourage patients to become active participants in their own healthcare and well-being through services such as health screenings, behavioral health and wellness, chronic condition management
Required Qualifications:
A minimum of one year of experience as a Nurse Practitioner is required. Experience in Family medicine or primary care practice preferred.
Active Family Nurse practitioner license in good standing
Provide holistic, evidenced-based care inclusive of accurate assessment, diagnosis, treatment, management of health problems, health counseling, and disposition planning for our patients. This includes education and treatment for pregnancy prevention, sexually transmitted infection (STI) Prevention and safer sex practices.
Order and administer immunizations and injections (to include but not limited to COVID19, influenza, TB, Depo) and provides evidence-based patient/parent vaccine counseling and education.
Minimum of two years of medically relevant experience or equivalent
Complete the DOT certification exam within 30 days of employment
Depending on the market, the ability to be proficient in both speaking and writing in additional languages not limited to but including Spanish
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, including but not limited to performing CPR and operating an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
Pass a FIT test and wear the provided respirator mask when protocol requires.
Education:
Master's Degree level Family Nurse Practitioner program with current National Board Certification and State of Employment license to practice in the Advanced Practice Nurse role
Or in select states, Master of Science in PhysicianAssistant Studies (or other health-related master?s degree or equivalent experience together with Bachelor of Science in PhysicianAssistant Studies) with current National Board Certification and State of Employment license to practice in the role.

The typical pay range for this role is:
$87,035.00 - $187,460.00
This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Clinical Education is responsible for oversight of all aspects of the clinical phase of the PhysicianAssistant Program. It is expected that the Director of Clinical Education will provide effective leadership toward meeting program and student learning outcomes related to the clinical phase of the program. Oversees ongoing assessment and improvement of the clinical phase of the program to include evaluation of student performance, preceptor performance, clinical site quality, and clinical curriculum.
Collaborates with the Program Director and site development coordinator to design and implement an ongoing clinical site monitoring plan to ensure the program has adequate SCPE sites.
Manages faculty coordination by assigning clinical coursework to instructional faculty and preceptors.
Provides teaching and instruction in the PA program including:
Overseeing coordination of instruction for all clinical courses and rotations annually.
Lecturing in areas of clinical and/or professional expertise.
Providing academic advising as a small group facilitator and student advisor.
Provides input to assist with accreditation activities, as well as ongoing program evaluation and mission statement review.
Participates in the program?s admissions process to include student recruitment, student evaluation (through application review and candidate interviews), and student selection meetings.
Collaborates with the Director of Didactic Education on ongoing assessment of student performance toward attaining the program?s student learning outcomes.
Engages in service, community and campus relations, and scholarly activities appropriate to the role of Director of Clinical Education and PA faculty.
Participates in faculty development opportunities each year as required in the areas of teaching and academic administration.
Provides remedial instruction as needed.
Adheres to university policies as described in the Employee Handbook, the Faculty Supplement to the Employee Handbook, , or other separate guidelines.
Remains in compliance with South University?s academic policies and procedures, educational policies, both SACSCOC and programmatic accreditation standards, and state agency regulations.
Assists with the investigation of student problems requiring academic actions according to South University policies and procedures.
Upholds Program/Department/College initiatives designed to achieve student outcomes, and Campus/community relations.
Performs instructional duties as assigned and as outlined in the and in accordance with the provisions of the Faculty Supplement to the South University Employee Handbook.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:Knowledge:
Graduation from an accredited PA program.
Terminal degree as a PhysicianAssistant.
Current or emeritus NCCPA certification.
PAs with active certification must be eligible for licensure or hold an active, valid, and unencumbered stat license in the state where they are assigned.
1-2 years academic experience preferred.
2 years clinical experience required.
Experience in PA/medical classroom teaching and PA education administration highly preferred.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
In collaboration with attending physician(s), provides direct clinical services for critically ill patients according to established protocols and utilizing evidence-based clinical practice standards.
Performs triage, physical exams, collects and documents data, conducts diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, orders and schedules laboratory studies, diagnostic procedures and professional consultations, prescribes appropriate interventions and medications, coordinates the care of patients, and provides direct patient care services.
Formulates and implements treatment plans for acute illness management in collaboration with the attending physician(s).
Analyzes clinical practice patterns so to provide the best medical care and to increase effectiveness and efficiency.
Communicates verbally and in writing all pertinent patient information to supervising MD, nursing staff, patient resource manager, home health agency, and other relevant healthcare providers.
Provides timely documentation in the electronic medical record of all relevant data including results of diagnostic tests; laboratory results; patients' condition and response to therapies/interventions; communications with physician colleagues.
