Job Description The Physician Assistant is responsible for promoting and maintaining health by providing quality medical services under the supervision of a Physician through the identification of short-term and long-range patient care issues and recommending options and course of action while implementing physician directives. This is a full time, exempt position in our Urgent Care Clinic (Orthocare). Responsibilities include patient screenings, and patient assessments within an urgent care setting. Candidates must be comfortable seeing patients of all ages performing typical urgent care procedures; suturing, wound repair, ortho splinting, casting, etc. Prior urgent care or emergency medicine experience is a plus, but not required. The position requires a professional person with excellent clinical and communication skills who has the ability to work autonomously. Duties Elicits a detailed and accurate patient health history and performs a physical examination; records these along with progress notes in the patient's charts. Determines abnormal conditions by ordering diagnostic tests such as X-rays, EKG's and basic laboratory studies and interprets test results. Formulates an initial diagnosis, therapeutic plan and treatment. Provides fracture care including reductions, operative vs. non-operative care, splint, suture, and staple applications/removals. Performs such routine therapeutic procedures as intramuscular injections, immunizations, wound care, joint aspirations, joint injections, and incision and drainage of superficial infections. Answers all patients phone calls regarding the clinic. Triages as appropriate. Completes all forms and required paper. Facilitate referrals when needed. Performs as first or second surgical assist during operation. Rounds at hospitals as required by Physician. Complies with Federal, State, and local legal and professional requirements by studying existing and new legislation, anticipating future legislation, and enforcing adherence to requirements. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. Maintain professional and technical knowledge by obtaining required CME's, reviewing professional publications, and participating in professional societies. Respects and protects the confidentiality of all patient and Company information through the adherence of all HIPAA guidelines and regulations. Assumes other duties as requested by Physician. The Gates Vascular Institute (GVI) features four floors dedicated to comprehensive vascular care, revolutionary neurological procedures, and cardiac services unavailable anywhere else in the region. The candidate will be joining a group of 4 Cardiothoracic Surgeons and 10 APPS within the CVICU at Great Lakes Cardiovascular. Our cardiology team includes non-invasive, electrophysiology, interventional and structural heart specialists. We are part of Kaleida Health System, Western New York's largest healthcare system, serving eight counties in the state of New York. The applicant should be self -motivated, work well with others, and work well under pressure. This is a full- time position that includes a rotation of 13- hour rotating day, night, weekend shifts. 3x a week. No Call requirements. The ideal candidate will have experience in cardiology or cardiothoracic surgery or ICU management. Previous experience is preferred. Candidates should be available for nights, weekends, holidays.
