Primary Job Responsibilities Performs physical examinations and updates patient history. Formulates a diagnosis and treatment plan as appropriate for patient needs. Orders ancillary services as appropriate to meet patient needs. Reviews all patient diagnostic test results and follows-up on abnormal test results. Reviews diagnostic test results with patient. Requests specialty consultation as approved by the supervising physician. Provides patient education as appropriate. Provides treatments and procedures as appropriate. Counsels and educates patients as needed to support compliance with the outlined treatment plan. (e.g.: seeking services for: diagnostic, specialty care or emergent care and is critical for patient care/safety). Documents patient care as required and in a timely manner. Identifies high risk problems and transfers care to appropriate physician. Collaborates and communicates with appropriate physicians on patient care issues. Collaborates with other members of the health care team as needed. Seeks consultation from physician on any cases that he/she may feel exceeds his/her ability to manage, when the PA is in doubt of the diagnosis, when a patient fails to respond to treatment or when the patient expresses a desire to see the physician. As needed, participates in team conferences to review status of patient care. When needed, participates in data collection and outcome measurement to insure quality care is being provided. Works collaboratively with team members to ensure appropriate and efficient flow of patients through clinic appointments. Completes and submits coded fee tickets for each patient encounter. Promotes excellent customer service. Education: Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program approved by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Or Master's required. Graduate of an accredited nursing program including a Nurse Practitioner Program. This includes routine minor illness, medical emergencies, and trauma. Directs triage, patient transport, and medical supervision at mass casualty incidents. Interfaces with other response team sections. * Diagnoses and treats illnesses and injuries of the workforce according to collaborative agreement with the supervising physicians * Prescribes and dispenses appropriate pharmaceuticals including controlled substances as approved by the supervising physician, within the scope of the collaborative agreement and in accordance with DEA regulations * Determines the need for emergency air evacuation of seriously ill or injured patients to appropriate medical centers in Anchorage and Fairbanks * Conducts laboratory and electro-cardiograph diagnostic procedures as required * Refers patients to appropriate consulting physicians within Alaska when required * Attend daily and/or weekly safety and training sessions with the Medical Director and/or Medical Emergency Response Team * Maintains medical records according to company policies and expected standards of medical practice. This includes but is not limited to injury reporting, completion/review of medical forms, and maintenance of statistical logs * The number of employees varies based on camp location and work activity levels. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS * Active Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner License with Alaska State License * Professional certification with National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) * Active DEA License * 3-5 years family, internal medicine, or emergency medicine experience * 2 years remote experience preferred * Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification * Advance Trauma Life Support (ATLS) preferred * Knowledge of OSHA first aid policies * OSHA First Aid refers to the medical treatment that is defined by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) as minor care provided at the workplace that does not result in a recordable injury for workplace injury and illness logs. * Must possess a valid driver's license PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS * Considerable time walking, standing, stooping, sitting, lifting, and assisting with positioning the patient. * Exposure to anesthetic gases, blood and body fluids, sharps, and other health care occupational hazards. * Exposure to hospital-grade cleaning solutions, flammable solutions, and gases, e.g., alcohol and oxygen, as well as latex and other industrial chemicals.
