Inform patients about their health conditions and prescribed medications
Educate patients and their family members on diseases- teaching and counseling to patients and families
Collaboration with the healthcare team- Monitors, evaluates, and communicates relevant data regarding clinical problems consulting physicians and appropriate members of the interdisciplinary team
Identifies and addresses potential deterrents to compliance with treatment regime.
Follows up with patients if they are discharged to assess if needs are being met and determines if additional follow-up care is required.

Overview
The Division of Hematology/Oncology/Bone Marrow Transplantation (BMT) is seeking a new faculty member to join the BMT/cellular therapy program. Applicants must possess a medical degree and Board eligibility or certification in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology. The ideal candidate will possess experience in clinical care of pediatric hematopoietic stem cell transplant and immune effector cell therapy experience. Such candidates with demonstrated research productivity and commitment to basic/translational immunotherapy focused research will be given preference in consideration.
The primary responsibility of this position is to provide excellent clinical care to patients referred to the BMT/cellular therapy service who are candidates for hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, immune effector cell therapy, and gene therapy as available. Candidates interested in building and/or maintaining a successful basic or translational research program focused on high impact immunotherapy/transplant will receive support to ensure the candidate's successful pursuit of this goal.
Clinical responsibilities will be within the Section of Bone Marrow Transplant in the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology/BMT. Protected time and support for translational investigation will be provided by the Department of Pediatrics and the Children's Mercy Research Institute. The academic appointment will be at the assistant, associate or full professor level commensurate upon a candidate's qualifications. A successful candidate for this position will join us as we strive to create a workplace that reflects the community we serve, as well as our core values of kindness, curiosity, inclusion, team and integrity.
Children's Mercy Kanas City has a full-service BMT program with a full complement of staffing including three other faculty physicians, six advanced practice providers, and in-house, overnight coverage by Heme-Onc trained physicians. The program is a FACT-accredited, and National Marrow Donor Program and Children's Oncology Group designated transplant center. We perform 35-40 transplants annually for a variety of malignant and non-malignant diseases while utilizing all donor sources including haploidentical donors and banked cord blood. The program is focused on novel, less toxic transplant approaches to treat patients with non-malignant diseases, such as severe combined immunodeficiency, aplastic anemia, hemoglobinopathies and rare genetic disorders.
The BMT program has conducted investigator-initiated CAR T-cell trials and participated in industry and cooperative group cell therapy trials. Our institution was one of the first to join the pivotal trial leading to FDA approval of Kymriah and has a faculty member on that study steering committee. The program has a budding laboratory footprint in the area of cellular therapy for cancer, as well.
Research endeavors will receive support from the Children's Mercy Research Institute (CMRI). Abundant laboratory space is available as well as a Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) facility should it be needed for translation of research to a clinical trial. The CMRI is an integrated research environment designed to eliminate boundaries between science and medicine. The CMRI provides a collaborative environment for physicians, scientists, academic colleagues, philanthropic partners and the larger community.
The Division of Hematology/Oncology/BMT sees more than 200 newly diagnosed children with cancer every year and is a consortium partner in the NCI-designated University of Kansas Cancer Center. It runs a busy hematology service with over 300 sickle cell disease patients, coagulation service and a hemophilia treatment center. There is an active Pediatric Hematology-Oncology fellowship program.

Overview
The Section of Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine at Children's Mercy Kansas City is seeking a physician who is board-certified/eligible in pediatrics and sleep medicine to join the current faculty of 14.
The division is comprised of General Pulmonary Medicine, the Children's Sleep Center and an active Cystic Fibrosis Care Center. The Sleep Center currently includes five BC/BE sleep physicians, one nurse practitioner, a sleep psychologist, and two CPAP coordinators. We are seeking a sixth physician. Our Sleep Laboratory is AASM accredited and includes 14 beds dedicated for pediatric patients with an additional portable unit, operates seven nights per week, and performs around 2000 polysomnograms per year. We host several multidisciplinary sleep clinics, a dedicated PAP adherence clinic, and a Narcolepsy program. We have an active research program and are involved in local, national and international academic efforts. In addition to nesting an independent ACGME accredited Pediatric Sleep Fellowship Program within Children's Mercy Kansas City, we closely collaborate with two sleep training programs in the city (The University of Missouri at Kansas City and the University of Kansas).
Candidates should be board-certified/eligible in pediatrics and sleep medicine, have established clinical skills, an interest in scholarly activity and a willingness to participate in education activities. We accept J-1/H-1 visa candidates. Academic appointment is with the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine. Interpreting highly complex surgical pathology, and relaying results to patients.
* Assistphysicians in ER consults and floor consults, while in clinic and in between surgical cases. Determines if surgery is necessary, arranges all perioperative orders and scheduling cases. Provides preoperative and postoperative care including patient education, by maintaining communication with patients and their families.
* Assists the surgeon during operations by opening locations for surgery, operating laparoscopic cameras, suturing wounds, using surgical staplers, providing suction or anything else that the surgeon may need.
* Assists surgeon by maximizing patient volume, monitoring, and contacting high risk patients, returning patient calls in a timely manner, and providing follow up. Coordinates with other departments for continuity of patient care. Interprets radiology results to determine surgical plan.
* Develops with the patient and/or caregivers, a mutually acceptable cost-aware plan of care that maximizes health potential. Formulates a treatment plan which includes ordering diagnostic tests, selecting appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions, develops a patient education plan, and obtains appropriate consultation or referral.
* Consults with physician appropriately regarding patient care issues and concerns. Communicates clinical findings to, and works collaboratively with, physicians to develop patient treatment and education plans.
* Performs procedures independently in the office. Conducts wound care for ongoing surgical wounds, requiring debridement in the office setting.
* Reviews all referrals for soft tissue tumors, skin lesions and properly delegates to self or surgeon for excision. Completes all discharge summaries for physicians.
* Demonstrates productivity and initiative by organizing patient care, delegating appropriate staff, prioritizing work load and seeking opportunities to improve clinical processes and staff/patient education.
* Hosts floor specific educational seminars for nursing education in the hospital setting. Helps implement new protocols and delegates tasks to floor nursing managers in relation to surgical care.
Minimum Qualifications:
* Masters Degree in PhysicianAssistant Studies and a maintained board/association certification

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Provides diagnostic and therapeutic services to patients including performing history and physical exams, prescribing medications, managing acute, chronic, and preventative care, making referrals for hospital and specialty services when applicable under the direction of a collaborating physician

* Provides ongoing patient education regarding current diagnosis and plan of care

* Identifies barriers to patient care and delivery of services and assists with formulating the plan of care and coordination of care by making referrals to internal support services or outside collaborating organizations
* Collaborates with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Chief Clinical Officer (CCO), other providers, and other staff to evaluate services as well as plan and develop programs
* Participates and provides input in monthly Medical Executive meetings and other committee meetings as well as participating in Quality Improvement (QI) activities, Peer reviews, Pharmacy and Therapeutics, and evaluation and implementation of clinical programs
* Reviews current literature to remain current with advances in therapeutic interventions
* Ensures participation in continuing education requirements
* Maintains patient confidentiality at all times in accordance with HIPAA regulations
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
* · Graduated from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or PhysicianAssistant program
* · Licensed in the State of Missouri
* · Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
* Active Missouri DEA and BNDD Licensure
* Spanish bilingual
* Two years' experience as a PA or Nurse Practitioner in an Federally Qualified Health Center
