We will primarily work weekends, with some occasional weekdays in the State of RI on an "as needed basis". Under the Reserve Health Readiness Program (RHRP) we provide health readiness services to meet the medical and dental requirements to maintain a deployable military force for the following: U.S. Army Reserve (USAR) Army National Guard (ARNG) U.S. Navy Reserve (USNR) U.S. Marine Forces Reserve (MARFORRES) U.S. Coast Guard Reserve (USCGR) Air National Guard (ANG) U.S. Air Force Reserve (USAFR) Responsibilities: Support Physical Health Assessments of military personnel. Review health history, service member medical records, and medical questionnaires. Interview military personnel to determine current and prior medical concerns. Identify any concerns that need to be addressed immediately, inclusive of Behavioral Health. Document interview results for readiness classification in the service member's medical record using a proprietary system. Our qualified, friendly health care providers treat adults and children (age 6 months and up). We know urgent medical situations often happen unexpectedly, so our clinics are open seven days a week, and most visits last less than an hour, so our patients can get back to what matters. Our operating hours are weekdays from 8:00am-7:00pm, Saturdays from 9:00am-3:30pm, and Sundays 9:00am-1:00pm. Schedule Expectations: Our per-diem APPs must complete a minimum of 3 shifts per month, with at least one of those shifts being on a weekend day (Saturday or Sunday). Additionally, we are open most major holidays, so we request coverage availability of one holiday per year. We are closed on Christmas Day, Thanksgiving Day, and New Years Day. This position provides advanced patient care within the Trauma division at B rown Surgical Associates. This is a full-time position (12 hr. shifts and requires 1 weekend per month). New grads encouraged to apply! GENERAL SUMMARY: The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant will provide the surgical patient and their family with continuity of care in the outpatient setting. The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant will act as an integral part of the surgical service. The practitioner will also act as an educator and a liaison to other health care providers providing care across the care continuum. RESPONSIBLE TO: Chief of Service PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Acts as an integral member of the surgical service for patients on the surgical service from inpatient services (both the ICU and the convalescent wards) to outpatient settings to include the following: conducting history and physical exams, ordering and interpreting lab tests, prescribing medications, developing and monitoring patient treatment plans, making appropriate referrals to other specialists, and prescribing and ordering appropriate treatment modalities. Performs minor procedures, including but not limited to: peripheral IV access, central venous access, PICC line placement, repair of lacerations, incision/drainage/washout/debridement of wounds, tube thoracostomy, tracheostomy changes, arterial catheter placement, removal of drains/sutures/staples, placement and removal of N-G tubes/N-D tubes/foley catheters, and assisting with surgery consistent with institutional processes. Collaborates with unit teachers and clinical nurse specialists to provide education to nurses in the patient care units, and serves as a preceptor for medical students, and other NP or PA students. Treats each person with respect and dignity. Participates in research studies and projects. Obtains Human Subjects Protection training. Obtains training in HIPAA compliance and all other applicable state and federal privacy laws. Establishes annual development goals in collaboration with physicians on the surgical service. Prepares health education materials for patients and their families. Attends continued education offerings and obtains all continuing education credits required to maintain licensure. Maintains ACLS certification. Participates in multidisciplinary meetings relating to surgery. Brown EM provides emergency department staffing for Rhode Island Hospital, the only Level 1 trauma center in this region; Hasbro Children's, Rhode Island's only children's specialty hospital; The Miriam Hospital, a leading community teaching hospital and Newport Hospital, a community Magnet Hospital. Minimum Qualifications: Physician Assistants: Master's Degree in Physician Assistant Studies Nurse Practitioners: graduate degree (Master of Science in Nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice) from an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program Minimum of 1 year of experience as an Advanced Practice Provider, preferably in an emergency department setting. National Certifying Commission of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) certification, or equivalent Nurse Practitioner national board certification Current Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner Rhode Island and/or Massachusetts State Licensure Current DEA and Rhode Island Controlled Substance Registration (CSR) or ability to obtain prior to start date. Evaluate patients in accordance with Attending Physician supervision requirements, as follows: Patients deemed to have a lower acuity complaint by nursing triage (i.e. ESI 4 or 5) can be evaluated, treated and dispositioned from the Emergency Department by an Advanced Practice Provider without requiring an evaluation by the Attending Physician. Higher acuity patients designated ESI 3 or ESI 2 by triage nursing, require that an Attending Physician also evaluate the patient in the emergency department before discharge. Critical Care patients require direct bedside supervision by the attending physician. Conduct a history and physical examination on all patients in the emergency department seen by the APP and appropriately document in the patients' record. Order and interpret laboratory testing and radiology studies. Request respiratory therapy, psychiatric, medical, and surgical consultations as well as interventional radiology procedures, and social work, case management, and PT/OT evaluations.
