The primary responsibilities of the PMHNP or Psychiatric Physician Assistant are to evaluate, diagnose, and prescribe medications for people we support, which may include, children, adolescents, adults and geriatrics diagnosed with mental disorders under direction of a qualified health care provider to enhance the quality of life through services that enable them to achieve their personal dreams and goals.What You'll Do: • Prescribe medications and treatments under the supervision of a physician or according to established policies and protocols. • Report information about an individual's medical condition to supervising physicians to assist with the established diagnosis and appropriate course of treatment. • Assess individuals for mental health disorders and make an appropriate DSM diagnosis (es). Ensure that services are delivered in a medically appropriate manner and care provided is in compliance with NC Medical Board guidelines. • Review past treatments, evaluations, and other relevant information in order to develop an appropriate diagnosis and treatment plan. • Request diagnostic lab work when appropriate. • Maintain all documentation and records which are necessary in the daily work of psychiatry in a timely manner, which includes the use of electronic health record system (EHR). Documentation should be completed within 24 hours of the delivered service. • Provide education to individuals to aid in understanding their diagnoses and recommend appropriate treatment. Involve/educate family members and other supports in treatment when appropriate. Encourage individuals to participate in mental health therapy when appropriate. • Collaborate, coordinate and consult with other providers such as counselors, psychologists, social workers and medical staff of other local providers, including but not limited to state hospitals, local hospitals, other community agencies, primary healthcare providers, CCNC, public Health Departments, Federally Qualified Health Clinics in order to discuss treatment plans, progress in services and where appropriate, the medical aspects of the person being supported and the implications for their physical healthcare needs. • Participate in staffing of complex or high-risk individuals with other program staff. • Attend and actively participate in meetings and training as required.
