Pre-Surgical Testing Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant Needed for Elliot Hospital- Full Time, No Call This position requires complete review of medical and surgical history, assessment for risk factors that could potentially lead to anesthesia complications, physical assessment, interpretation of laboratory values, cardiac testing, pulmonary testing and diagnostic imaging. If clinical evaluation reveals that the patient requires further medical optimization to ensure the best surgical outcome and avoid any potential anesthesia complications, then the provider will carry out those interventions and re-evaluate for their effectiveness. The APP is required to adhere to anesthesia pre-operative guidelines along with the additional pre-operative workup request by individual surgeons. This role requires supporting nursing staff who identify possible pre-surgical concerns and supporting staff from medical offices which involve chart reviews. When necessary, to clear patients for surgery, the APP will refer to and arrange specialty consultation and follow up on the resulting pre-operative recommendations. We are seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the Acute Cardiac Care Unit (ACCU) to join the Cardiac Medical and Surgical Advanced Practice Clinician Teams. Key Responsibilities * Care for inpatient pediatric and adult patients with cardiac medical issues including congenital heart disease, arrhythmia, heart failure, and pre and post heart transplant management * Care for cardiology patients admitted to the Cardiology service for management of non-cardiac medical issues * Care for patients following cardiac surgery including, chest tube and temporary pacing wires removal, wound care, arrythmia and heart failure management * Coordinate care for management of acute and chronic medical issues * Collaborate with members of the multidisciplinary team and consulting services to provide comprehensive care for optimal patient outcomes * Coordinate complex discharge planning needs * Work collaboratively in a family-centered environment * 36 or 40 hours, either permanent nights or rotating day/night with up to 50%-night rotation, every 3rd weekend, some holidays (including major) * Rotation between Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery APP teams on a 2-month cadence Minimal Qualifications Education * A Master of Science in Nursing or Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies Experience * 1+ year of current Nurse Practitioner experience or 1+ year of current PA experience preferred * Will consider new graduate Nurse Practitioners with 2+ years inpatient RN experience preferably in pediatric, cardiac, or higher level of care (ICU/ICP/ED) or new graduate PAs if prior pediatric cardiology and higher level of care rotations completed. Licensure/Certifications * Current MA NP or MA PA license with PNP or FNP certification * Sign-on bonus: $5,000-$15,000 (prorated for under 40 hours/week).
