Contract Description
Your services support the Veterans Benefits Administration Medical Disabilities Examinations program. Veterans are scheduled for appointments at contracted facilities for compensation and pension exams and embeds practitioners in facilities as needs warrant. Dedicated facilities are in areas where there is a large Veteran population with the potential for high volume.
The compensation and pension exam helps the VA answer questions about Veterans' current health.
The practitioners will not decide the percent of disability or rating, develop treatment plans, or prescribe medication.
Completed documentation is sent to the VA for final determination on all disability claims.
Prior to the exam, the practitioner reviews a Veteran's medical or mental health history, using electronic bookmarks that highlight the portions applicable to the Veteran's claimed condition.
The practitioner is guided through a web-based examination form in Client's Provider Portal to capture the Veteran's responses during the exam.
Electronic exam documentation is known as a Disability Benefits Questionnaire (DBQ) and must be submitted promptly within 48 hours of each appointment.
The number of DBQs completed per exam will vary based on the Veteran's claimed conditions.
Administrative time is provided to complete exam documentation and ensure timely submission.
The documentation is reviewed by a team of medical professionals to ensure contract compliance and guarantee the verbiage aligns with customer requirements.
Requests for changes or corrections to exam documentation must be submitted within 48 hours of the appointment.
Review pertinent medical history documentation and provide one-time, non-treatment compensation and pension exams for Veterans.
The Practitioner will capture responses during the exam through a web-based examination form; all documentation will be completed electronically.
Completed exams are sent to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for disability award determinations.
General Medical take 45 minutes to several hours, depending on number of disabilities being claimed; Practitioner will be provided an approximate appointment length estimate for each scheduled exam, based on the Veteran's claim(s)
General Medical Exams:
Common exams include musculoskeletal, cardio, and respiratory
Ancillaries (X-rays, labs, EKGs, PFTs, ABIs) may be ordered and will be conducted on location or nearby
Education/Qualifications
Qualified candidates must have a master's degree in Nursing (NP) or successfully completed an approved Physician Assistant (PA) program.
Primary care experience is required. Qualified candidates must be actively licensed and able to work independently and as part of a team, have good interpersonal skills and a willingness to be flexible and adapt to changing situations. Candidates must possess basic computer skills.

Summary
The Hospitalist Nurse Practitioner provides advanced nursing care to hospitalized patients, working collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to manage acute and chronic conditions. Develop, implement, and modify individualized treatment plans in collaboration with the healthcare team. Monitor patient progress and adjust care plans as necessary. Facilitate patient and family education regarding diagnosis, treatment, and discharge plans. Coordinate patient care with consulting specialists, nursing staff, social workers, and other healthcare providers. Document all patient encounters and care plans accurately and timely in the electronic medical record (EMR). Participate in hospital rounds, quality improvement initiatives, and staff education. Qualifications
Master's or Doctorate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program. If APRN was licensed prior to August 1, 1995, master's degree in nursing is preferred.
Previous experience in hospital medicine, acute care, or related clinical settings preferred.
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner in each state of practice. Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) permit to prescribe controlled substances in each state of practice. **Job Summary**
The Physician Assistant (PA) provides expert clinical guidance in a specialized field and coordinates patient care quality initiatives.
This role will require varying shifts, including nights, and weekends as needed. Provides service to patients in acute, short and long term care settings by assisting physicians, assessing patients, and treating injuries and ailments. Obtains a thorough medical history from patient and dependent on patient population and setting will perform an examination and/or assessment to determine patient's needs. With other healthcare professionals, analyze and interpret information collected from patient, medical records, symptoms, physical findings, or diagnostic information, to develop and establish appropriate diagnosis. Acknowledges and demonstrates the importance of care coordination and navigation by rounding on patients when necessary. Works in collaboration with providers and independently to provide care. Formulates a plan for treatment of the patient and prescribes medications based on efficacy, safety, and cost as legally authorized if necessary, in order to aid recovery and manage pain. Maintain complete and detailed records of patients' health care plans and prognoses in a timely manner. Consult with or refer patients to appropriate specialists when conditions exceed the scope of practice or expertise. Provide patients with information needed to promote health, reduce risk factors, or prevent disease or disability. Counsels' patients and family members about self-management on prevention and treatment plan for health issues, tailoring instructions to patients' individual circumstances. May cover hospital consultations, rounding, and assist with patient procedures as needed. Conducts research into area of specialty and uses findings to provide measurable improvements in patient care and clinical outcomes. Incorporates evidence based practice guidelines into care. Maintain current knowledge of state legal regulations for advanced practice provider practices, including reimbursement of services. Keep abreast of regulatory processes and payer systems such as Medicare, Medicaid, managed care, and private sources, as applicable. Demonstrate extensive advanced knowledge of medical principles, practices and techniques.
**Qualifications**
Master's or Baccalaureate degree (Associate's or Nursing Degree if training prior to 1994). Successful completion of a physician assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or its predecessors.
Demonstrated current competence and provision of care, treatment, or services for at least 30 patients in the past twelve months or completion of an ARC-PA approved program in the past twelve months.
Successful completion of the national certifying examination and current certification given by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) permit to prescribe controlled substances.

Completion of a master's, postmaster's, or doctorate from an nurse practitioner program accredited by the Commission on the Collegiate of Nursing Education or National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission. Licensing prior to August 1, 1995, master's degree in nursing is preferred.
Demonstrated current competence and provision of care, treatment, or services for an adequate volume of patients in the past twelve months, or completion of master's/post-master's degree program in the past twelve months. Experience must correlate to the privileges requested.
Current licensure by the applicable state board of nursing for advanced practice. Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) permit to prescribe controlled substances. Certified Family Nurse Practitioner (NP-C) or (FNP-BC). Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications.
