On August 1, 1997, Palo Alto County Hospital Physicians began a new physician on-call schedule at the hospital to coordinate after hour care for patients.
The continuum of care was further enhanced by the announcement on September 30, 1997, of plans to build a two-story apartment complex for seniors.
1998 –New Medical Clinic is Built
In 1998, Palo Alto County Health System embarked on a $9 million expansion project which focused on building a new 14,000 square foot medical office building with a shared entrance with the hospital, and a 17,000 square foot addition for expanding outpatient services.
1999 – PACH Purchases Medical Clinics
On July 1, 2003, all three of the Palo Alto County Health System clinics were renamed Family Practice Clinic, designated by town.
A groundbreaking ceremony in October 2006 was the accumulation of three years of discussion and research on the financial, mechanical and strategic issues facing the Palo Alto County Health System.
2006 – Groundbreaking for 11 million dollar construction project
In 2008, a $30 million master site and facilities plan was developed.
The unit's kitchen area and group room were updated through a project undertaken by the Greater Des Moines Leadership Class of 2009.
A grand opening of the completed project was held Thursday, May 6, 2010.
The Broadlawns Medical Center site and facilities plan realized the completion of the first phases of the expansion and modernization in 2010.
In June 2011, Broadlawns Medical Center completed Phase 2 of the site and facilities plan with a new Medical Office Building (MOB). The MOB was constructed to house clinics, including the Primary Care Clinic.
In 2014, Broadlawns Medical Center celebrated its 90th Anniversary.
On May 8, 2015 Palo Alto County Health System held a groundbreaking for a $9 million construction/remodeling project . Highlights of this construction project will include a new welcome desk and private registration rooms for the hospital and clinic.
In October 2015, a groundbreaking celebration was held for a 72,000 square foot Medical Plaza building on the east side of the Broadlawns campus.
2015 – Construction Begins at PACHS/New Electronic Health Record for Clinic and Hospital
In August 2016, a new three-story residency housing unit opened on the eastern-most portion of the property.
In September 2017, the Geriatric and Memory Center moved to the first floor of the Medical Plaza.
In June 2018, Broadlawns opened the first psychiatric urgent care in the state of Iowa to accommodate greater access for patients experiencing an exacerbated mental health condition.
2018 - PACHS Rebrands with new colors, Logo and prmotes a "New Day" for Healthcare in Palo Alto County
In October 2019, renovation and expansion of the Oncology and Hematology Center was completed, providing modernized facilities for cancer patients.
In November 2019, Broadlawns relocated its downtown clinic to a new mixed use complex on SW 9th Street to improve access to primary care, urgent care and specialty services for downtown and south Des Moines residents.
The New Connections substance abuse and mental health clinic is being constructed with an estimated completion date of Fall 2020.
The lab is being updated with an estimated completion date of Winter 2021.
