Facilitates the initiation and continuation of breastfeeding through one-on-one breastfeeding evaluation and assistance to mother and baby. Provides education on breastfeeding, breast care and related topics to patients and their families.

Teaches Breastfeeding, Childbirth Preparation and/or postpartum discharge classes to assist class participants in obtaining knowledge and skills related to pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding and early parenting. Provides lactation discharge teaching instruction and refers patients for follow-up care as needed.
Serves as a clinical resource to hospital staff on issues related to breastfeeding. Collaborate with unit staff on developing resolutions to patients breastfeeding problems.
Demonstrate proficiency in using breastfeeding management equipment and devices to assist patients with breastfeeding.
Assists with the development, implementation and evaluation of patient and family education materials and/or programs.
Completes appropriate documentation. Maintains accurate and timely entries and notations in patient care records and hospital documents.
Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements and trends in Lactation Consulting by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals and actively participating in professional organizations. Maintains State of Texas Licensure as a Registered Nurse, plus certification as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact or govern assigned department. Develops effective internal controls that promote adherence to applicable state/federal laws, and the program requirements of accreditation agencies and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as necessary to ensure proper understanding.
Identifies ways to improve work process and improve patient and customer satisfaction. Makes recommendations to supervisor and implements and monitors results as appropriate in support of the overall goals and mission of the assigned area and Parkland.

In instances when the staff member's exam date is documented as changed/canceled, the staff member must register for the next regularly scheduled exam date. Responsible for effective fiscal management of multiple departments. Prepares the annual budget, incorporating Parkland and department goals. Follows departmental guidelines while transporting patients. The patient is protected from possible injury using side rails. Patient privacy is protected by fully covering the patient; the patient’s dignity and comfort are always considered. Assists personnel in the department in moving patients, holding patients, and preparing patients for exams as well as setting up necessary supplies/equipment on a sterile field for procedures. Helps clean aprons, gloves, and accessories as required. Assists with order entry/data processing, report retrieval, and CD burning as needed. Coordinates/prioritizes imaging procedures throughout the workday, maintaining a high level of patient care and continuity.
Performs examinations/procedures as needed to assist in patient throughput.
Ensures exam rooms are neat, clean, and adequately stocked before exams are performed.
Demonstrates flexibility by working other shifts and at other campuses as needed or required.
Ensures completed exams are scanned and stored correctly in PACS.
Ability to follow PACS downtime procedures as a PACS Superuser and escalate any problem(s) or issue(s) to the PACS administrator or Designee if needed.
Troubleshoots and reports any equipment malfunctions to the Director/Manager/Supervisor and/or Biomedical personnel; does appropriate follow-up.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Experience

The Maternal Program Manager (MPM) facilitates and implements the hospital's Maternal Program Plan to align with the hospital specific and system Quality Assessment & Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives as defined in the Texas Administrative Code for Hospital Level of Care Maternal Designation. The MPM regularly and actively participates in perinatal care at the hospital where program manager services are provided.
Qualifications
MINIMUM EDUCATION: Bachelor Degree in Nursing
PREFERRED EDUCATION: Master's Degree in Nursing
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: 5 years' experience in Perinatal bedside nursing
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: 3-5 years' experience in a managerial role
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: Possession of current Texas State License for Registered Nurse.
PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: Specialty or Administration certification desired.
REQUIRED COURSES/ COMPLETIONS (e.g., CPR): ACLS, BLS, NRP certified, Advanced Fetal Monitoring
