Performs all physics calculations and testing necessary for calibration of equipment and to ensure that the programs are in place to facilitate the produce of quality diagnostic images, consistent with the available technology and which optimize safety (including radiation, medical, and electrical) for the patient. **What the Medical Physicist will do:**

+ Assists in planning for resource allocation with Radiologists, administrators, and technologists, including: equipment usage, selection and replacement, staffing requirements, budget preparation, and review of departmental policies and procedures.

+ Responsible for performance specification, acceptance testing and performance verification, and commissioning of new equipment. Guides technologists in the use of new technology.

+ Determines shielding required for new or renovated equipment rooms for ionizing radiation and for radio frequency and magnetic fields.

**What the Medical Physicist will need:**

+ Minimum Master's Degree in Medical Physics.

+ One year of experience performing physics in a clinical setting.

Directs and standardizes calibration of radiation producing equipment, ensures dose accuracy, patient safety, and maintains quality assurance (QA) program. Provides education and training in medical radiation physics and oversees department radiation safety and data management.

Performs delivery of non-standard, standard and complicated treatment planning and techniques which may include high dose radiation (HDR), low dose radiation (LDR) and stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS). Performs radiation surveys of patients exposed to radioactive sources; regularly performs radiation surveys of treatment rooms.

Calibrates various therapy machines, measures instruments against national standards, and measures therapy beam data for treatment planning purposes. Leads and facilitates the troubleshooting process, works collaboratively with Medical Engineers. Operates and performs quality assurance (QA) on equipment as required.

Assists with accreditation process, departmental QA activities, and radiation safety committee as assigned; leads the development of a new competency or assists in completion of competencies for other staff.
