Cocoa Beach Pier company history timeline
Built in 1962 by local businessman Richard Stottler, the Westgate Cocoa Beach Pier is a historical landmark on the Space Coast.
As Cocoa Beach transformed into a surfing mecca, one of the original Ron Jon Surf Shops opened on Cocoa Beach Pier in 1963, later relocating to handle overwhelming crowds.
The first Easter Surfing Festival was held in 1964.
Members of the Siegel family have lived in Brevard County since 1972.
In 1983, the Pier underwent a $2 million remodeling and expansion project.
In 1984, the Pier changed its name from Canaveral Pier to its present name, Cocoa Beach Pier.
The first Cocoa Beach Fest was held at the Pier in 1989.
Siegel gained national attention as the focus of the 2012 documentary "The Queen of Versailles." That film followed Siegel and his wife, Jackie, as they set out to build the largest private residence in America, modeled after the French palace in the title.
Since 2017, Siegel and Gissy have invested more than $4 million transforming the Pier into a family-friendly, world-class tourist attraction.
