But in 1939, the students at Lincoln Elementary wanted to honor their well beloved principal and former teacher, Margaret “Mame” Harris.

May 11, 1953, the entire community suffered from a tornado which caused $235,000.00 damage to the school buildings and equipment.

Day Elementary, with six rooms and cafeteria, Holiman Elementary, with eight rooms and cafeteria, were built in 1954.

The following historical reference was compiled by the Lake View Lions Club in March, 1955, and etched onto a plate which was sold as a fundraiser for the school that year.

In September of 1956, Lincoln High School opened at its present location of 1001 SE 12th Street (on Williston Road). Previously, Lincoln High occupied what is now the A. Quinn Jones Center, the red brick building on NW 8th Avenue.

Segregation came to an end in 1970 as the federal courts ordered that Alachua County integrate its schools.

Lincoln was converted into a middle school and re-opened in 1973.

In 1994, The Lyceum magnet program was started at Lincoln Middle School.

After learning about the sense of pride that the community felt about Lincoln, and especially from those who attended Lincoln High School, Principal Don Lewis decided to change the mascot back to the terrier in 2007.

In 2009, the Poudre School District switched from a junior high to a middle school model.

Margaret Jacobsen was promoted from VMMS Assistant Principal as the next Principal to begin June 1, 2013.
