UBC pile driver job description

As a UBC Michigan Pile Driver and or certified Welder you will get the opportunity to work with one of the largest construction organizations in all of North America, well making a decent living & a fair wage to take care of and raise your family with pride & Dignity!

You will get the chance to install the foundation piling on some of Michigan's/Detroit's Major Bridge & Commercial Construction projects: (like the Gordie Howe International Crossing Bridge project for an example); you will Operate pile driving equipment, Install H-pile, Concrete pile, sheet piling on location and within tolerance, use levels, rules, plumb bobs, framing squares & surveying equipment to ensure everything is plumb, level & square plus Measure height, width, length, the use of cutting torches & welding.

Starting pay for Journeymen Piledriver's is $35.90 Base wage on the Check with a total package of $66.91 which includes pension, Annuity, Healthcare, Dental & Vision.

Starting pay for Apprentice's is 55% of Journeymen Pay which is $19.75 Base wage on the check and a total package of $41.31 Apprentice's attend school one day every 2 weeks for 4 years, they also will receive a 5% Raise every 6 months until they reach journeymen level.
Certified Welders=$1.00 more per hour.. with a raise every June
Specific Pile Driver Responsibilities:
MUST BE ABLE TO PASS A DRUG TEST! Perform H beam & Concrete Pile, Sheet pile installation for Major Bridge & commercial projects Assists in unloading and assembling cranes, hammer and leads or other equipment to be used in pile driving. Unload Various types of piling Perform site preparation, including layout Prepare piling to be driven and assist in positioning and driving pile. Perform Rigging & Signaling. Work & communicate with operator to position piles accurately. Operate Vibratory Hammer, diesel Hammer and like heavy equipment to accomplish pile driving. Welding. Using Oxyacetylene Torch to cut & prepare pile. Utilize hand & power tools necessary to prepare specific pile. Must be able to work at heights. Must be able to climb ladders, work out of lifts, bend, squat & Kneel. MUST BE ABLE TO PASS A DRUG TEST!
Specific Certified Welder Responsibilities:
Knowledgeable of SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding). Must Be D1.1 or D1.5 Certified Setting up welding machine to assure correct heat levels for the type of welding rod to be used for the current task. Knowledge of metals and proper welding procedures. Measuring and marking pile. using oxyacetylene torch to cut & prepare pile. MUST BE ABLE TO PASS A DRUG TEST!
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledgeable in multiple pile installation techniques. (H-Pile, Concrete Pile, Sheet Pile) Knowledgeable in different hammer types. ( Diesel Hammer, Vibratory Hammer, Etc.) Knowledge of hand and power tools used in the construction trade, and the ability to use safely & efficiently. Experienced in Rigging & Signaling. Certified Welder. Ability to comprehend schematic diagrams, blueprints, sketches, building plans, and other specifications required by our client for information pertaining to the type of material required to get the job done Experience working with equipment such as boom lifts, scissor lifts, and forklifts ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability & consistency. Own Transportation & Reliable, (Car or Truck) Seek and Participate in development and training opportunities the Union or Contractor has to offer. Self motivated with the ability to work well with others as a team player in a respectful and supportive manner & metor the less experienced. able to work long hours as needed. MUST BE ABLE TO PASS A DRUG TEST!

Position Summary

Currently seeking skilled Piledrivers and/or candidates with a background in Highway Heavy concrete work.

The Piledriver is responsible for the installation of footing piles and earth support sheeting systems as directed by the Foreman or Superintendent. The Piledriver works with pile driving rigs that drive metal, concrete or wood piling into the earth during the early stages of construction. Piledrivers work with a variety of hand and portable power tools, and frequently cut, join, and fasten metal construction materials using welding equipment and oxy-acetylene torches.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

+ Direct/Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, or adjustment of machinery, equipment, or materials.

+ Load, unload, or identify building materials, machinery, or tools, distributing them to the appropriate locations, according to project plans or specifications.

+ Drilling and setting of pile with use of caisson or other type drill rig.

+ Lubricate, clean, or repair machinery, equipment, or tooling as needed.

+ Welding of Connections (safety railing, tiebacks, internal bracing, etc.).

+ Shooting Grades and/or layout of work.

+ Installation of pile with either a diesel hammer and/or a vibratory hammer.

+ Makes small repairs to diesel hammers as needed.

+ Testing of micro pile/tie backs and load frames.

+ Shares knowledge by mentoring junior team members.

+ Assists other craft workers as needed.

+ Keep project superintendent or general superintendent informed of known actions, written or verbal, which may affect the ability to successfully perform tasks at construction project sites or adversely affect company operations.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

+ High school diploma; GED; or equivalent.

+ Basic understanding of piling installation/extraction, micro piles, concrete forming and pouring, and mechanism of driving pile with a fixed mass system or ability to learn.

+ Rigging/Signaling qualification.

+ Knowledge of and ability to assemble and disassemble a crane.

+ Knowledge of a crane's capabilities/ability to read and understand load chart.

+ Knowledge of and ability to make small repairs to diesel hammers.

+ Ability to follow applicable safety precautions as well as view and understand Veit's safety training video is required. Working knowledge of hazards and safety precautions common to heavy equipment operations is also required.

+ OSHA 10 and First Aid/CPR Certifications.

+ Ability to communicate orally and in writing with management, crew members, and business associates.

+ Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions. Must have good interpersonal skills.

+ Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency as required by management and/or project requirements.

+ Willingness to share knowledge by mentor junior crew members.

Preferred Knowledge, Kills and Abilities

+ At least two years' deep foundation/drilling experience preferred, but not required.

+ AWS Welding certification preferred, but not required.

+ OSHA 30 preferred, but not required.

Other

+ Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test.

+ Must be able to work 8 to 12-hour workdays, Monday through Friday, with occasional weekends. Must be flexible regarding work hours including evenings and weekends.

+ Must be over the age of 18.

+ Union affiliation or willingness to join the union is required.

+ Must be willing to travel within the Midwest (75%). Overnight travel is required.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
