What Does A Pilot Plant Operator Do At Avery Dennison

* Qualified employees are encouraged to apply for Pilot Plant Operator/Lab Support Technician
* The pilot facility is an area for the scale up of development materials and small production orders.
* The pilot technician is responsible for running the 100 gallon reactor for solvent and water based polymers.
* An additional responsibility is to work with research chemists to ensure that their polymerizations are conducted in a safe manner, and to help define efficient, robust manufacturing processes for production.
* Lab support work will include running and modifying reactions in glassware, doing reaction kinetic studies, and quantifying polymer performance with various analytical techniques and applications tests.
* A further responsibility will be to work with production operators and engineers to transfer the scale up information, and to help them understand the critical reaction parameters of that process.
* Additionally, drum compounding and raw material handling are necessary functions.
* The site pilot process capabilities will be changing with ongoing upgrades to the pilot facility.
* The optimum candidate will be looking for growth in this position, and will want the opportunity to learn, maintain and safely and efficiently operate new equipment.
* They will want to continuously improve our compounding and processing capabilities.
* The pilot plant technician is responsible for the safe operation of the pilot facilities.
* This includes maintenance of equipment, housekeeping and inventory of materials needed in the facility.
* This position will be for a second shift pilot operator.
* The tentative hours will be from 10:00AM till 6:30 PM.
* The candidate must be able to be flexible to changing needs and may be called to work alternate times (most likely 2:30 PM till 11:00PM ).
* Description
* The Operator is responsible for the operation of the pilot reactor and of future equipment.
* The operator will work with the Chemist/Engineer to define an agreed upon experimental design, and is responsible for the preparation of the reactor, material weigh up, operation of the reactor and for sampling the reactor at designated times.
* To ensure complete understanding of scale up, training of others in pilot operations and willingness to explain observations will be a must.
* Maintenance of pilot equipment: The operator is responsible for making sure the pilot facility is properly maintained by performing regular PM’s and identifying needed maintenance and having it done.
* The pilot operator is responsible for the inventory management of raw materials and finished goods for the pilot facility.
* This includes proper labeling and storage of materials.
* Since the pilot area is crucial to timelines of projects – adherence to and flexibility of scheduling is required.
* Efficiency of the pilot up time is critical to meet project demands.
* As pilot plant capabilities are improved, the operator will be asked to continuously increase his capabilities and job functions, with appropriate safety training.
* Formulation of small samples (drum quantity and less) to technical specifications for customers.
* Paper work generation and record keeping associated with batches and compounding, lab notebooks for support work

* Receives voice commands from students, inputs proper entries into the automated system to simulate pilot actions, translates displayed information into appropriate ATC terminology, and responds to the student via the VCS utilizing proper phraseology.
* Operates computer equipment to provide a simulated air traffic environment reflecting typical pilot responses to trainee directions.
* Provides simulated communications to the trainee on a variety of coordination activities with adjacent sector during the course of a lab problem.
* Provides scripted communications to the students, follows prompts to simulate inter/intra coordination related to training problem.
* May distribute flight strips to proper training sectors, when necessary, on a time critical basis.
* Transcribes required information on remote flight progress strips when necessary.
* Monitors student to voice recognition software interaction for errors, makes correcting keyboard entries when required.
* Follows scenario script to ensure timely scenario inputs occur.
* Communicates effectively with FAA personnel at all levels to insure the training delivered at the local level is responsive to local needs, is comprehensive and of consistent high quality.
* Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor's instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output.
* Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and coworkers.
* Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and human resources.
* Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions to the best of own ability
