Pilot plant technician job description

The Rigid Paper and Plastics Pilot plant continues to support a wide variety of consumer packaging innovation and sampling. This position will be critical to supporting these innovations and meeting customer demands. Successful candidate will need to provide innovative solutions through equipment operation, trouble shooting and critical thinking. Successful candidate must possess the ability to multitask and move quickly between changing priorities.

Working safely will be the top priority as successful candidate will be required to perform many unique tasks. This is an excellent opportunity to be part of a dynamic team with high exposure within the consumer package environment.
Required Skills (technical / soft)
> Safely operate all Pilot Plant equipment and processes.
> Ability to learn new equipment and processes.
> Ability to analyze equipment and process and identify improvements and repairs as needed.
> Ability to work closely with Development Engineers to develop new products and processes
> Evaluate a variety of new raw materials and compounds
> Develop procedures and test methods for characterizing materials
> Maintain accurate records, interpret results, and make recommendations for technical solutions
> Perform manual labor activities such as cleaning plant and equipment, operating forklifts and organizing warehouses.

The selected individual must be a self-starter capable of excelling in a small team environment with minimum supervision. Other desired skills include:

This is a non-exempt salary position. A high school diploma or equivalent is required in addition to a minimum of 5 years hands-on operating experience. Additional education or formal training is preferred.
Periodic overtime and off shift work may be required due to customer demands.

Position Overview

SubCom is seeking an ROV Pilot/Technician to join the Submersibles group. We are looking for a candidate that can take responsibility for the Submersibles team when required, representing SubCom and the Submersibles Departments interests with clients, supervisors, peers, and subordinate staff.

Responsibilities and Qualifications:

+ High School diploma or equivalent required

+ Minimum 2 years' experience of ROV/Sea Plow operating experience

+ Effective communication with all other team members, recognizing the abilities/ limitation of staff and offering assistance and guidance in the use of equipment and systems

+ Thorough knowledge of ROV / Sea Plow subsystems, with the ability to coordinate upkeep of ROV / Sea Plow systems planned maintenance schedules, re-order spares and consumables when necessary, and ensuring that records are correctly completed and updated

+ Knowledge of fault-finding processes and correct diagnosis of faults while identifying hazards that could arise during fault finding activities on ROV / Sea Plow Systems

+ Capable of assessing weather conditions and operational parameters for safe ROV / Sea Plow operations as well as define and advise appropriate personnel of the limiting conditions for safe operations

+ Produce clear, comprehensive written reports, technical briefings, and completion logs for onshore management and clients using company formats

+ Thorough understanding of underwater operations and equipment with the ability to provide instruction and supervision to less experience personnel in maintaining equipment during underwater operations and maintenance periods

+ Thorough knowledge of operational scope of work for a given project with the ability to discuss scope of work with clients, supervisors, peers, and subordinate staff, capable of proactive involvement to meet client requirements

+ Responsible for tasks designated by Submersibles management within the abilities and qualifications of the individual

+ Ability to pass a shipboard fit for duty physical

+ Domestic and International Travel is required for the role

Position Summary:

Under the direct supervision of the Group Operations Manager, the ROV Pilot/Technician performs a variety of tasks related to reporting and general ROV support for the Remote Sensing Technology Group. The primary role of this position is to operate and maintain remotely operated vehicles.

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent
Technical Associates Degree or technical trade school preferred
Commercial Driver's License, or the ability to obtain preferred

Experience:

A minimum of one years' experience working in electrical, electronic or mechanics
A minimum of one years' experience operating small inspection class ROV's
The ability to work successfully as a team member
Maintain a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
The ability to travel to project assignments around the country
Proven track record in ROV operations
Must be easy going, hardworking, have great communication skills, willing and able to work with clients, and field crews

Physical Demands/ Working Environment:

Outside/at sea/mobilized, frequently working on or near moving and vibrating equipment up to 50% of the time
Requires working in very hot (above 90 F degrees) or very cold (below 10 F degrees) temperatures
Work in confined spaces, kneel, jump, run, work while lying on stomach/back, crawl, and use repetitive movements of the arms and hands
Ability to remain outdoors for long periods of time in various seasons and conditions
Work will take place around water; working on small vessels and barges off and near shore; including near or on moving and vibrating equipment
Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, walk and stand on uneven surfaces, ride, or work from a barge, pier, vessel, etc.
Ability to sit, stand, kneel, squat, push, pull, etc. for varying amounts of time
Ability to lift and carry 50 to 100 pounds for short distances
Ability to wear personal protective clothing and equipment including, but not limited to, respirators and fall protection
Workdays may consist of 12+ hours a day, including nights and weekends depending on project schedule needs
