Pinewood School company history timeline

1959

Our founders—my grandparents—Gwen and Vic Riches, started the school in the family home here in 1959.

1962

In 1962 a high school for Grades 9-12, named Thessaloniki International High School, was founded, and over the next two years, a new building large enough for all grade levels K-12 was constructed on the Anatolia College campus.

1964

By 1964, enrollment had soared to 350 students, and the Riches family moved from their colonial home on Fremont Avenue to make space for the full-time private school.

By 1964 enrollment had increased to 350 students, and the newly named Creative Workshop became established as a full-time private school.

1974

Pinewood Elementary School opened in 1974 and is located at 6717 N. 63rd Street in north-central Omaha.

1975

In 1975, the Los Altos Hills campus became available, and a few years later, Pinewood purchased a new lower school on Fremont Avenue, close to the original campus.

1981

In 1981, the first 9th grade class began.

1985

In 1985, that pioneering class of only 17 students was the first to graduate from Pinewood High School.

2008

In 2008, Pinewood began a new chapter in its history when the current campus opened in Thermi.

2016

In August of 2016, the 3rd- through 6th-grade students moved into the newly renovated Middle Campus, the original location of the Riches family home and all of those pine trees.

2019

In 2019, Pinewood established an institutional affiliation with Anatolia College in order to move the entire campus back to its original campus with the construction of purpose-built facilities.
