Pioneer Bank company history timeline

1913

In 1913, they formalized their practice of helping neighbors by establishing a bank in the prairie town of Buffalo.

1914

1914: Pioneer expands hours of operation from one evening a week to Monday and Tuesday evenings.

Pioneer purchased the building from the Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation; a building originally constructed in 1914 for the Troy Gas Company.

1915

1915: After 27 years of leasing business space, Pioneer purchased its own building at 30 Second Street from R.P.I. for $11,000.00.

1924

This institution prospered and expanded and as the years passed it became evident that, in addition to the normal banking services of the day, there was a need for local trust services. Therefore, A.N. Bush, son of Asahel Bush, formed a separate trust institution which was incorporated May 13, 1924 under the name Ladd and Bush Trust Company.

1930

Founded in 1930 by the Board of Directors, the express purpose of the Salem Foundation is to accept and distribute gifts from individuals, families and businesses for the benefit of Salem and its citizens.

1937

In 1937, the brothers expanded and founded the Bank of Belle Fourche.

1950

1950: Pioneer moved their Main Office a few doors down to 21 Second Street.

1953

The founder A.N. Bush served as president until his death in 1953.

1958

1958: Pioneer opened a second office in Latham on June 2nd, 1958.

1961

H.V. Compton in turn was followed by K.E. Wenger in 1961.

1972

1972: Conversion from a savings and loan association to a savings bank.

1973

1973: Rotterdam office opened.

1975

The Salem Medical Center Branch was opened at 12th and Oak Streets in 1975.

1976

1976: Installation of first online computer terminals, linking the bank to an off-site shared service center.

1976: Pioneer introduced to its customers the precursor of today's checking and NOW accounts - the Payment Order Account.

1987

1987: Introduction of the home equity loan.

1991

In 1991 Meier also assumed the Chief Executive Officer position.

1995

1995: First ATM was installed in our Watervliet office.

1996

1996: Clifton Park West and Malta offices opened

1997

1997: PSB Financial Services Inc. was formed.

1998

William Meier was named Chairman of the Board in 1998.

2000

On April 18, 2000, a name change to Pioneer Bank was adopted in order to reflect the full range of banking services offered to Pioneer’s communities.

The first loan was actually made one week after the Association was opened, for $2000.00 to a man named Knauffman, at 5% interest with a 3¢ premium per share.

2001

2001: Glenmont office opened.

2002

2002: Waterford office opened.

2004

2004: East Greenbush office and Green Island office opened.

2007

2007: Guilderland office opened.

2010

2010: Delmar office opened despite the country enduring a recession.

2015

2015: Glenmont office was updated to include a modern layout, conference room, and The Shops.

2017

On October 16, 2017, The Independent Community Bankers of America announced that Christopher was the Western region winner of the association’s 2017 Community Banker of the Year award.

2017: Keeping busy, Pioneer opened offices in Cohoes and Queensbury, remodeled the Watervliet office, and relocated the East Greenbush office to Greenbush Commons.

In 2017 John Willburn was elected President of Banking Services.

2019

2019: In addition to remodeling our Malta office, Pioneer also acquires Ward Financial Management, doubling the amount of brokerage and advisory assets the advisors of Pioneer Wealth Management serve collectively through LPL Financial.
