Job Summary Responsible for the organization of work force in the field, ensuring the work is being performed according to plans and specifications. Maintain safety standards, monitoring work activities and coordinating with other trades (subcontractors) to ensure consistent job progress. Organize carpenters and give directions and goals to be met. All Carpenter personnel report to the General Foreman. Essential Duties and Responsibilities All job functions shall be accomplished including practicing, instructing all subordinates in, and enforcing all OSHA safety requirements guidelines, in addition to all company policies and procedures. The General Foreman will be held directly accountable for safety performance. The essential functions include but are not limited to: 10% - Maintain safety by setting example, presenting safety talks and inspection of jobsite to insure against possible hazards. 10% - Work with field engineers on planning and layout. 10% - Oversight of design and building of form work using tools. 15% - Maintain open communication with Superintendent, Project Manager, Secretary, Labor Foreman, Subcontractors, Architects, and Owners. 10% - Work closely with Superintendent to maintain schedules and quality. 10% - Job planning in advance to insure smooth work flow. 35% - Direct and supervise human resources in a safe and efficient manner. Management Responsibilities May supervise skilled craft employees Knowledge/Skills/Ability Ability to perform mathematical calculations in determining cubic yards, square footage, angles, etc. Working knowledge of layout instruments, (levels, transits). Ability to: communicate effectively both orally and in writing, especially in providing instructions to employees and in communicating with superintendents, architects, owners and subordinates. Manage large groups of personnel to accomplish desired results. Read and interpret construction drawings, shop drawings technical specifications. Education High school diploma or GED and an apprentice program or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience At least 5 years related experience, including 1 year as a carpenter, iron worker, cement finisher or other trade or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Seeing (either naturally or with correction) and observing at a distance, as in receiving hand signals Crawling, crouching, stooping, kneeling, pulling, pushing and reaching to perform tasks, as in confined spaces. Walking/ balancing and moving about on foot to perform tasks where there is rough terrain and/or impediments such as sand, mud, ice and snow. Must ensure job site, tools, equipment, inventory, and supplies are safe, secure, neat and in orderly condition on a daily basis. Required to ensure all finishing equipment is always in working order and properly maintained. When necessary, required to properly operate Finishing equipment including but not limited to ride on/walk behind trowel machines, vibra screed and aluminum straightedges, roller/truss screeds, etc. Trains crew in the proper use of all Finishing Equipment as necessary. Responsible to perform soft cut sawing at times and also teaches and ensures the crew is properly performing soft cut sawing.. Must ensure that all finishing equipment is thoroughly cleaned at the end of each workday. Responsible to provide the General Superintendent/Field Superintendent with daily written reports that outline the work activity details for each project site. Responsible to inventory all finishing equipment parts daily, to included but not limited to trowel and float blades, and order as necessary. Ensures staff adheres to all Company and OSHA safety policies and standards including the use of PPE. Must wear proper PPE including safety glasses/face shield, safety gloves, and steel toed boots. Conducts daily huddles that included relevant toolbox talks. Must perform other job related as needed. Build and develop trusting relationships with current customers and seek to identify opportunities to grow our customer base and build positive relationships. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE (Include necessary licenses and specialized training.) Minimum of 7+ years' experience as a Concrete Finisher Foreman Demonstrated experience overseeing a Finishing crew of at least 8 Finishers. Excellent communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with subordinators and all levels of management. Proven ability to understand all facets of elevation/grades for all types of concrete placement. Illustrate in-depth knowledge of all concrete processes. Ability to read and understand blueprints and elevations. OSHA 30 certification required. CPR and First Aid certification required. Proven experience operating Finishing equipment including but not limited to proper operation of ride on/walk behind trowel machines, the use of vibra screed and aluminum straightedges, use of roller/truss screeds. Must have experience with soft cut sawing. Specialty concrete knowledge (stamped, exposed aggregate and Pervious concrete) is preferred but not required. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites.
