We have many excellent opportunities for Piping Designers with a minimum of 2 years’ experience to be a part of dynamic engineering and design teams on many diverse and challenging projects. Applicants are expected to have a good understanding of the fundamental principles of piping design and equipment layout and be proficient in AutoCAD and 3D piping design software. We are seeking applicants to apply their creativity and skills to a wide variety of projects in the exploration and production, transportation and storage, and refinery sectors of the oil and gas industry. There will be opportunities to lead your own small to medium sized projects as well as support larger efforts under the direction of more senior piping designers.

Our workflow generally involves accurately capturing and documenting site conditions utilizing a variety of technologies including land surveying, 3D color laser scanning, UAV drone photogrammetry, GIS mapping, and record drawings. It then progresses to the engineering and design phases utilizing 3D piping and modeling software such as AutoCAD Plant 3D, Aveva, and CADWorx. Next is the client presentation and approval process involving the use of AutoCAD, Navisworks, ReCap, BloomCE, Revit, and Inventor to communicate the design intent. The final stages involve the development of construction and permitting drawings primarily utilizing AutoCAD and MicroStation to develop plans, sections, details, and piping isometrics. Job Requirements

• 2+ years of experience in 3D plant design of industrial piping systems is required. Refinery and chemical design experience is preferred.
• A strong proficiency with AutoCAD is required.
• Proficiency with additional design software, including Civil 3D, Plant 3D, CADWorx, AVEVA E3D and Microstation is preferred.
• Candidate must be able to communicate effectively with team members in both verbal and written form.
• Drone experience and licensure is a benefit.
• Formal training in piping design is preferred. Trade school or associates degree is preferred, or equivalent experience.
• The ability to control small project budgets and schedules, while prioritizing multiple assignments, is required.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record is required.

Individual must have 3-5 years of piping design knowledge and equipment layout. Accountability for safety, quality, budget, and schedule as it relates to project tasks. This individual interfaces with other discipline engineers within the Valdes organization. May visit job site as required.

ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities include the following: Knowledge within the Piping and Plant layout discipline with capabilities and the initiative to perform the following tasks with some supervisory/mentor assistance Provide accurate detail piping design per project requirement in accordance with scope, budget, and schedule as assigned by project lead Provide on-site field assistance as required per project assignment Participate in 3D model design review Provide design computations, piping estimates, isometrics, plans, sketches and bill of material Provide information for inter-discipline coordination Review design drawings for quality and accuracy Participate in project meetings Provide written or verbal design progress reports as required by project lead Make recommendations to improve work flow process Develop and /or improve department standards, including templates and design guides Develop and maintain project drawing list All other duties as assigned
QualificationsEducation: High School Diploma, Associates Degree or Higher preferred Experience: 3-5 Years of experience working in piping design and plant layout Must be able to work in the US without sponsorship
Technical Competencies Ability to effectively resolve technical design problems Good verbal and written communication skills Strong knowledge of 2D and 3D AutoCAD software Ability to use design and/or CAD software to perform design tasks Solid Microsoft Office experience Ability to translate field and design sketches into detailed finished construction documents Ability to provide piping layout for control stations, pumps, exchangers, drums and vessels Knowledge of multi-discipline project design execution and construction methods

Job DescriptionAbout the Job

Responsibilities will include, but not limited to, layout of process and utility equipment in 2D equipment arrangements, creating Process Mechanical drawings using the 2D AutoCAD, 3D modeling of process and utility equipment, full 3D design of process and utility piping systems per PIDs and Process Engineer(s) direction, creating piping drawings using the 3D models for bidding and construction purposes, equipment access and support platform design, pipe support systems, and extensive coordination of process piping and process mechanical designs with the entire facility design team.

Essential Functions

• Equipment Layout Design – 2D and 3D.
• Platform Design – Conceptual design for review by Structural Engineer.
• Piping and Instrumentation Drawing – Understanding of and ability to create, must be able to create piping drawings from PIDs and equipment arrangements.
• Gather and organize information for developing design drawings; visit client sites as needed to understand existing equipment arrangements and piping systems.
• Oversee all aspects and details of process and utility piping.
• Communication Skills - Work with the architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical and control disciplines in the overall design coordination.
• Prepare general arrangements, plans, elevations, isometrics and details for use in bid packaging and construction.
• Execute 3D model reviews with client using Navisworks.
• Assist construction managers with coordination issues in the field.

About You

• 7+ years of piping and equipment layout experience
• Familiarity with XREFS and basic drawing setup
• Requisite proficiency in AutoCAD
• 7+ years of 3D experience using CADWorx, Plant3D or similar programs, Revit piping experience a plus.
• Ability to interpret PIDs and transpose that information into a piping layout.
• Experience with design of Food and Beverage processes a plus
• Travel to client construction sites will be required of this position. Candidates should expect overnight travel not less than 20% of the year.
