- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to cultivate respectful and collaborative internal and external relationships.
- Ability to apply current industry knowledge and technical trends to projects.
- Verbal and oral communication skills to explain planning concepts and recommendations. Graphic or visual communication skills are a plus.
- Experience working with varied client groups, private and public stakeholders, government officials, and regulatory agencies.
- Applicable plans, policies, laws, and regulations applicable to professional assignments, for example, the Growth Management Act and the State Environment Policy Act.

As one of two Deputy Directors in the department, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Planning and Plan Review Divisions, as well as acting as the third-in-command in the absence of the director and assistant director. In this role, you will be working with the Board of Commissioners, county administration, and various committees and task forces, communicating with developers, designers, contractors, the public, and various governmental agencies. Essential duties include:
* Managing, updating, and implementing the County's Comprehensive Plan (2040 Unified Plan)

* Determining and implementing new and innovative ideas for department work processes
* Providing managerial, supervisory support, and staff evaluation to division directors
* Directing day-to-day activities including planning, coordinating, administering, and evaluating programs, projects, processes, procedures, systems, standards, and services
* Ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and codes, as well as county policies and procedures
The grade for this position is 305. Salary will be dependent on qualifications.
Minimum Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in planning or a related field
* Eight years of progressively responsible experience in planning or a related field
* Two years of management experience
An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job will also be considered.
