  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to cultivate respectful and collaborative internal and external relationships.
  • Ability to apply current industry knowledge and technical trends to projects.
  • Verbal and oral communication skills to explain planning concepts and recommendations. Graphic or visual communication skills are a plus.
  • Experience working with varied client groups, private and public stakeholders, government officials, and regulatory agencies.
  • Applicable plans, policies, laws, and regulations applicable to professional assignments, for example, the Growth Management Act and the State Environment Policy Act.

Gwinnett County planning director job description

The Gwinnett County Planning and Development Department includes four divisions: The Administrative Division; the Planning Division; the Plan Review Division; and the Permits, Inspections, and Enforcement Division. With approximately 120 employees the Department provides services related to planning, zoning, development, permits, licenses, inspections, and code enforcement. The mission of the Department is to plan, preserve, and build a healthy community through continuous engagement and superior customer care. The Department accomplishes this mission through programs and services that encourage high quality development as well as maintenance and revitalization of existing neighborhoods. As one of two Deputy Directors in the department, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Planning and Plan Review Divisions, as well as acting as the third-in-command in the absence of the director and assistant director. In this role, you will be working with the Board of Commissioners, county administration, and various committees and task forces, communicating with developers, designers, contractors, the public, and various governmental agencies. As an ideal candidate, you should have skills in problem solving, multi-tasking, adapting to rapidly changing environments, negotiating, communicating, managing, mentoring, collaboration, and team building.
Essential duties include:

* Managing, updating, and implementing the County's Comprehensive Plan (2040 Unified Plan)
* Reviewing processes and procedures to ensure they are effective, efficient, and innovative
* Determining and implementing new and innovative ideas for department work processes
* Providing managerial, supervisory support, and staff evaluation to division directors
* Directing day-to-day activities including planning, coordinating, administering, and evaluating programs, projects, processes, procedures, systems, standards, and services
* Ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and codes, as well as county policies and procedures

The grade for this position is 305. Salary will be dependent on qualifications.

Minimum Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree in planning or a related field
* Eight years of progressively responsible experience in planning or a related field
* Two years of management experience

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job will also be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Master's degree in planning or a related field

Reporting to the VP Supply Chain Planning you will provide strategic leadership in the development and maintenance of ongoing production and inventory plans to support assigned pillars. Lead planning process to manage and align business and supply chain to provide customer service, working capital and cost targets. Direct manufacturing facilities regarding production and inventory planning, scheduling and deployment at the least landed cost. This position is critical to the achievement of significant inventory, service and other S&OP metric improvements.
You Will:
Oversee implementation and maintenance of Lean Supply Chain processes across assigned plants, including validating and improving run strategies to improve FG cycle time and developing plans to reduce FG inventory levels at each manufacturing location.Oversee the planning, positioning and maintenance of finished goods inventories to balance customer service levels, inventory carrying costs, obsolete risk management and optimal transportation.Establish guidelines and practices to achieve cost-effective and efficient movement of finished goods while maintaining minimum inventory investment, while reducing transportation and warehousing costs.Develop a distribution strategy to support ConAgra Foods target customer service levels with a minimum investment in inventories.Proactively plan and communicate with Transportation & Warehousing on annual and periodic freight and warehousing flow changes.Anticipate and communicate current and potential problems and opportunities to Senior Management, Sales, Brand Marketing and Customer Service so they can make appropriate decisions.Provide leadership in identifying and tracking of distressed and potentially distressed inventory and efforts to reduce liability and maximize return on distressed inventory.Conduct key category long-term capacity and replenishment strategy assessments and recommendations to business leadership.Support manufacturing sourcing, network design and asset consolidation studies.Provide leadership in developing supply chain team members, including talent management, succession planning and professional education.Oversee Supply Chain teams in all plants within assigned platform as well as planning/deployment of over copackers/repackers.
