    Under the direction of the Aquatic Director and/or Head Lifeguard, the Lifeguard is responsible for providing a safe environment for all participants in and around the pool. This includes responding to emergencies and administering CPR/AED, First Aid and Oxygen effectively according to certifications. Lifeguards must be alert and identifiable at all times and keep a professional appearance. Lifeguards must work at peak efficiency in all aspects of the aquatic department as assigned and exhibit behaviors and attitudes that are consistent with the YMCA Mission and policies of the Association. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Practice preventative lifeguarding by following and enforcing pool rules and policies promptly, and completes a routine check of pool and deck area regularly throughout their shift. * Check required safety equipment at the start of each shift and report any concerns to the Aquatic Director or designee immediately. * Responsible for securing the pool area at all times, including but not limited to: locking/unlocking doors and gates to control access to the aquatic areas. * Maintains cleanliness and chemical balance of pool on appropriate recording forms. Report any concerns to the Aquatic Director or designee immediately. * Provide undistracted supervision of the pool while on duty. Lifeguards will demonstrate vigilant scanning, 180 degrees, every 10 seconds checking the bottom, middle and top of their zone. * Understand and perform rescues and emergency procedures, document accidents on the proper forms and communicate to the Aquatic Director or designee as outlined in the EAP in a timely manner in accordance with aquatic, facility, certification policies and requirements. * Clean and store equipment in its proper place, ensuring the pool deck and surrounding areas are clean, free of clutter, trash etc. * Perform additional functions or assume additional responsibilities as needed or as requested by the Program Director or supervisor. * Engage in positive public relations with participants, members and guest ensuring a positive experience. * Performs any other duties as assigned by the Aquatic Director and/or Head Lifeguard. * Adheres to the Association operating policies and procedures by operating the programs within the guidelines set forth. * Follows YMCA policies and procedures regarding the safety, health and welfare of members, program participants, guests and staff; responds to emergency situations in accordance to facility policies and certification requirements. * Attend and actively participate in all trainings, staff meetings/in-services and guard drills as assigned. * Performs all other duties as assigned.   • RMV Driver Control Unit Internship Summer 2023

    DOT: An agency on the move, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) takes great pride in connecting the Commonwealth's residents and communities. Powered by a growing data-analytics discipline - and working in conjunction with municipalities, public agencies and the private sector - we're finding new ways to improve the Bay State's transportation infrastructure. MassDOT is responsible for developing, implementing, and coordinating transportation policies and projects for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and to efficiently plan, design, construct, and maintain a safe statewide transportation system which effectively meets the transportation needs of the Commonwealth. MassDOT's divisions include: Highway, Aeronautics, Registry of Motor Vehicles, Rail & Transit, and Planning & Enterprise Services. There are approximately 3,600 employees across the organization. Summary of the Driver Control Unit: The Driver Control Unit (DCU) oversees the issuance and adjudication of license suspensions and revocations and general daily operational oversight for the staff conducting administrative hearings relative to license and registration suspensions. DCU also administers the commonwealth's ignition interlock program, provides public access to many agency records, and collects reinstatement fees. DCU components include Hearing Officers, Court Records and various related safety programs and furnishes requestors such as state prosecutors with certified documents. Additionally, the Driver Control staff oversees the immediate action needed during fatal accidents, medically related suspensions and immediate threats and coordinates with local law enforcement to deliver the suspension notification and cease their ability to operate a motor vehicle. The driver control unit is also responsible for the chemical test refusal appeal program. Additionally, through our administrative staff we execute the summons & subpoena requests and court record requests to certify and make available official registry documents for the purposes of our business partners. Position Summary: The Driver Control Unit intern will report to the Director of the Driver Control Unit and support operational enhancement projects aimed at making RMV services more accessible and aid the various constituent categories in their journey towards the reinstatement of their driving privileges. This position will liaise with various public and private entities and build project proposals to partner with non-RMV entities. This position will also review and develop communication improvement opportunities within the various channels and RMV publications such as website, call center and social media. Duties and Responsibilities: The responsibilities in this position are varied but generally fall within the following subject matter areas: 1. Assist in conducting diligent research to ensure drivers requiring an administrative hearing remain in compliance with statutory and regulatory obligations 2. Coordinate with state and local government entities to propose educating various entities on the RMV's policies and procedures to aid constituents through the administrative hearing process. 3. Prepare materials for use on the RMV website, mailings, social media and contact center for constituents to better understand the legal requirements of various license suspensions including the pathway towards reinstatement using the various service channels to prompt an administrative hearing. 4. Assist in communication to customers for various needs by the department in addition to responding to customer inquiries via voicemail and email. 6. Assist in notifying other states of the administrative hearing process in Massachusetts. 7. This person needs to be able to manage multiple tasks with concurrent timelines and be very detail oriented, independent, pro-active, and organized. It is also critical for this person to be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Qualifications and Requirements: - At least 3 years completion of a bachelor's degree program - Ability to work in a fast paced, deadline-oriented environment, with multiple competing priorities and timelines. - Strong communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills. - Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a team environment. - Solution-oriented attitude, with excellent time management and organizational skills. - Experience and interest in criminal justice, law, and/or public administration. - Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite, particularly with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
