Plant maintenance manager job description

Primary responsibility is performing and/or overseeing maintenance on all plant machinery (compressed air system, heat reclaimer, boiler, HVAC, water softener, electrical systems etc). Manage a staff of maintenance mechanics. Utilize proper skilled techniques to assure the safe, efficient operation of all plant machinery. Responsible for the timeliness and accuracy of all necessary reports and paperwork. Document all work performed.
• Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

Recruit, select, hire, develop and educate Maintenance Technicians. Coach to improve performance. Hold technicians accountable for meeting goals established by the Market Center; Create time effective work schedules; Maintain / Repair or replace equipment when necessary and perform basic plumbing, mechanical, and electrical and building repair work when necessary; Order necessary parts, tools, equipment, etc. in a timely manner by following company policies; Maintain a complement of critical spares on the shelf for plant equipment and maintain parts inventory (quantity and value matches with the records); Perform root cause analysis for any abnormal conditions/ failures, take required corrective and preventive actions to prevent recurrence of such conditions; Track utility consumption data, prepare reports and circulate it for management review, propose/ implement corrective actions or solutions to control these costs; Communicate and co-ordinate with the equipment suppliers to resolve plant equipment related issues; Maintain satisfactory Market Center targets for cost controls and downtime; Create and implement preventive maintenance schedule in accordance with the equipment manufacturer's recommendation/ industry accepted best practices for all plant equipment; Support an environment of continuous improvement by making/implementing suggestions; Drive company Action Plans and hold the mechanics accountable for executing against those plans; Maintain close coordination with production department to resolve equipment breakdowns and other production related opportunities; Through implementation and execution of company safety initiatives, create an environment where safety is a primary concern. Maintain compliance with all Federal, State and Local laws and regulation that affect Market Center operations; Perform other duties as required or assigned by management.

• Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Displays mechanical and electrical aptitude; Possesses basic knowledge of required codes; Displays process driven mentality; Displays ability to plan pro-actively and adhere to a schedule; Proficiency in Microsoft Office; Basic knowledge of Inverter drives, controllers, AC or DC power supplies; Ability to read electrical wiring diagrams, control logic and mechanical drawings.

• Working Environment/Safety Requirements:

Must be able to routinely lift and maneuver a minimum of 25 pounds and load/unload product from truck without assistance. Must be able to stand for extended periods of time on concrete floor; Must be able to occasionally lift and maneuver 50+ pounds; Exposure to adverse and varying weather conditions which may include extremely hot/cold temperatures; Fast-paced environment requiring irregular and long hours.

• Experience:

Minimum of 5 years of maintenance work experience; 2 years of prior management experience is preferred.

Two-year college degree or equivalent experience preferred.

• License Requirements/ Certifications:

Must possess current and valid driver's license.

Plans, directs and controls the efforts of the Maintenance Department to maintain plant equipment and facilities commensurate with good engineering practices.
II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.

* Manages the preventive maintenance program and maintenance of equipment and facilities.
* Develops, maintains and administers an organization qualified to maintain all equipment and facilities in a safe and efficient working condition. Executes an effective preventive maintenance program to minimize unscheduled down time.
* Maintains all operating equipment in satisfactory condition. Schedules needed repair to have minimum interference.
* Consults with other departments regarding desirable modifications of existing equipment and facilities and the possible replacement of existing equipment which will improve operations and reduce maintenance costs.
* Coordinates the efficient operation of facilities with project engineers.
* Coordinates and oversees the efficient maintenance of all plant transportation equipment.
* Analyzes cost studies of proposals for new facilities and equipment in the department designed to secure reduced operating costs. Makes recommendations thereon to the Plant Manager.
* Develops objectives and standards of performance for projects within the Maintenance Department required to meet departmental, divisional and corporate goals and objectives.
* Plans and provides for an adequate supply and ensures control over spare parts and maintenance supplies.

III. Supervisory Responsibilities

The highest level of supervisory skills required in this job is the management of supervisory employees. This includes:

* Direct supervision of 10-15 full-time employees, including:
* Indirect supervision of 10-15 full-time employees.

IV. Qualifications

A. Education and Experience

* Education: Bachelor's Degree (accredited) in or in lieu of degree, High School Diploma or GED (accredited) and four (4) years of relevant work experience.
* Experience: Seven (7) years in engineering and maintenance of equipment and facilities work experience. (in addition to education requirement).

The Maintenance Manager role is based in New Braunfels, TX and reports directly to the Assistant Plant Manager - Servtex Quarry.

What you'll get to do

• Plan and direct the maintenance operations of a crushing/screening plant.
• Effectively and proactively administer Lehigh Hanson's safety program ensuring compliance with MSHA rules and regulations.
• Provide oversight and leadership to the maintenance function by:
o Develop short and long-term plans for the Maintenance department.
o Review and approve bid documents and technical specifications.
o Coordinate plant projects and shutdowns.
o Provide technical expertise to assist all plant departments.
o Liaison between the plant and Lehigh Hanson's corporate engineering group regarding maintenance activities.
• Troubleshoot and resolve maintenance related problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.
• Hire, develop, engage, and retain a competent and reliable maintenance team.
• Manage the allocation of mechanical and electrical maintenance resources and maintenance budget to provide an efficient and cost-effective operation.
• Ensures plant and mobile equipment is kept in good and safe working condition to maximize asset throughput.
• Oversee maintenance planning, staffing, and working operations in a cost-effective manner.

Essential Experience and Skills

• Prior experience managing an electrical, mechanical, or maintenance staff
• 5 or more years of maintenance experience in heavy manufacturing
• Strong understanding of preventive/predictive/corrective maintenance techniques and technologies
• Demonstrated ability to lead, manage and motivate others
• Project Management experience and strong analytical, data, and process skills set
• Strong communication skills to ensure coordination of work and completion of tasks
• Computer proficient, particularly Microsoft Office

Preferred Experience and Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering with a focus in Mining
• Experience managing vendors and contractors
• SAP
