Jackson, TN - Plant Engineer
Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Plant Engineer is responsible for leading the maintenance process, coordinating facility maintenance and capital at Sonoco's Jackson, TN location. The Jackson Sonoco plant manufactures Rigid Paper Containers utilized in food packaging and grease cartridges. Direct reports include a Maintenance Planner, Purchaser, and a Maintenance Supervisor who manages the hourly maintenance technicians. The plant operates a 24x7 and only shuts down occasionally for Holidays.
What you will be doing:
Ensure the safety of all employees by leading a comprehensive Sonoco safety process to prevent injuries. Lead plant compliance of all federal, state and local environmental and safety regulations.Effectively implement/maintain a reliability-centered maintenance process that drives machine uptime, improves OEE and lower operations costs by championing the Sonoco Maintenance Excellence process.Provide department leadership to ensure the highest standards of plant condition and equipment performance are achieved and sustained.Ensure maintenance department personnel possess the appropriate skills and are qualified and proficient. Identify and support technical training and development for department employees.Scope and execute capital projects, participate in annual plant budgeting, manage department spend. Identify technical improvements to equipment/processes.Apply reliability tools to determine the root cause of critical equipment failures and downtime. Identify the appropriate countermeasures and solutions to improve equipment reliability and prevent recurrence.Perform as a key member of the plant leadership team - positive communicator and problem solver - driving for plant/process improvements, meeting objectives and setting the bar for performance standards.Support pillar continuous improvement activities.

Strong understanding of OSHA requirements related to equipment in-house. MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR, Facilities-Central Utilities Plant (CUP), to organize and manage the maintenance staff for the CUP. Will assign mechanics, electricians, and instrumentation and control personnel to planned work packages; assign personnel directly in the event of emergent, critical work; consult with engineers and manufacturers' representatives regarding design or procedural changes for improved efficiency and reliability of all power plant equipment; supervise contractors; assist CUP engineers and planner; and ensure all safety and environmental compliance requirements are followed.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: at least five years' maintenance experience in a power plant or other industrial facility of similar size/complexity to the MIT CUP; broad knowledge of power plant equipment, controls, and systems; demonstrated knowledge of boiler and turbine controls and related mechanical equipment; and strong written and verbal communication skills. PREFERRED: B.S. in engineering; one year of supervisory experience in a union environment; experience leading the maintenance of co-generation units, industrial boilers, large mechanical chillers, and gas turbines; and experience using computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), preferably SAP. Job #21979-10Physical requirements: lifting weights of up to 50 pounds; working on feet for up to twelve-hour periods; ascending stairs and ladders climbing; wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) (e.g. hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, and high voltage protective equipment, etc.).Working conditions: extreme variations in noise levels and temperatures/spaces, including exposure to outside environmental conditions with temperatures below 32 or above 100 degrees for more than one hour; proximity to mechanical parts and electrical current; and exposure to high heat or chemicals.
