The scope of work includes but is not limited to collecting and transporting required water samples, performing brush clearing and general cleaning of grounds and facilities, water main flushing, meter and service installation, monitoring and adjusting chlorine levels, pump and pressure tank replacement, line repair, electrical component diagnosis and repair. This individual must be familiar with pump controls, pressure switches and possess a basic understanding of pumphouse electrical systems. This individual must know how to use a vac truck and various power and hand tools such as a jack hammer, plate compactor, gas-powered saw, and pressure washer. The Water Technician is required to work independently, use good judgement, creatively solve problems, demonstrate mechanical aptitude, and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers. This position is subject to working an on-call rotation. It is expected the on-call technician will respond to after-hours emergencies. Union represented position with pay schedule. GENERAL FUNCTION This position is responsible for maintenance, repair and installation work to assure effective operation of the water systems owned and/or managed by Peninsula Light Company. Provides support duties to Water Tech WDM II positions. 2. Troubleshoots malfunctioning water systems and effects repair of same. 3. Assists Journeyman level employees (Water and Electric). May work under the supervision of a lead lineman, foreman, etc; as member of a team or alone. 4. Responds and communicates verbally and in writing with a variety of company employees, customer contacts and developers. 5. Collects and transports required water samples and prepares same for processing. 6. Installs and directs the installation of new water lines and/or services including tapping mains, installation of valves, hydrants, meters and other related facilities. 7. Complies with Peninsula Light Company and Department of Health policies, regulations and safety/health standards and all other applicable administrative and operating procedures. 8. Accomplishes brushing, clearing, cutting/trimming grass and general cleaning around underground facilities. 9. Installs conduit/duct while working under the supervision of a Foreman or Journeyman level lineman. Installs water piping systems as directed by Water Manager. Obtains locates prior to excavations. 10. Assists installation of underground facilities by digging around utility vaults, poles, pads, etc. 12. Maintains valid First Aid/CPR card. 13. Maintains valid flagging certification. Performs duties of traffic control. 14. Responds to emergency situations and performs duties as directed.
