Job Description
Summary/Objective:
The Plant Operator oversees and ensures the efficient and productive operations of the assigned Concrete Batch Plant. The Plant Operator may float from plant to plant if not assigned to a specific location.
Essential Functions:
Assume all responsibilities of the Yard Operator in their absence.
Oversee all plant operations and coordinate and monitor daily workload throughout the plant, in addition to monitoring plant cleanliness.
Oversee all drivers, operators, and other personnel at the plant. Respond in a timely manner to all employee concerns and/or complaints and escalate concerns and disciplinary action to the Area Production Manager as necessary.
Coordinate scheduling with Dispatch and monitor driver activity to ensure customer needs are being met in an efficient manner.
Respond to all complaints and concerns in a timely manner.
Maintain adequate levels of all supplies and products (i.e., fuel, cement, admixtures, fiber mesh, etc.) and maintain accurate and current reports as required.
Ensure that the concrete plant and related equipment are operating properly at all times by inspecting the plant for greasing, checking oil fluid levels, adding grease and oil as required, and keeping plant and equipment clean and free of excess material.
Maintain proper levels of aggregates and admixtures, including keeping the hoppers full of aggregates. Notify the Area Production Manager of impending shortages in a timely manner.
Ensure compliance with company safety regulations and all company environmental regulations and notify personnel immediately of any potential problems.
Take samples and perform tests as necessary and complete required documentation/reports. Inform Technical Services of any quality problems that need resolving.
Keep equipment and plant site clean at all times by washing the outside of the plant and equipment whenever necessary, maintaining plant grounding, picking up trash and other items from grounds, and making sure that all equipment is in its proper place.
Operate vehicles and equipment in a safe manner.
Perform all pre and post-trip inspections and complete daily inspection reports.
Follow all environmental regulations and clean up any excess material that could cause environmental problems.
Perform miscellaneous duties and outside labor as requested, which may include, but not limited to, cleaning up around the plant, sweeping, shoveling, moving wheelbarrows, picking up equipment or supplies.
Non-Essential Functions:
Assist with the clean-up of concrete and material spills.
Fill in for colleagues (at other locations) as needed.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Work Environment:
Work time will be split between indoors/office and outdoors/field

Duties and Responsibilities
The incumbent supervises and assists lower-level staff, focusing primarily on facility maintenance and regulatory compliance, particularly regarding low-pressure boiler plant operations. The supervisor ensures strict adherence to local regulations (D.C. Municipal Regulation 17, Health, and Fire Department rules) and unit policies. A key responsibility is ensuring all preventive maintenance is conducted according to division guidance, which includes routine tasks such as periodic oiling, greasing, repacking bearings, tightening connections, and calibrating utilities. The role involves directing staff in both routine and complex system maintenance, tracking inventory, ordering necessary tools, equipment, and fuel, and preparing work orders for any major repairs that are beyond the team's scope. Maintaining a working-level inventory of parts and ensuring their security is also a critical duty.

The Nexus Water Group team has an opportunity for a Water Operator I. This role is under direct supervision, performs routine tasks related to the operation of water and/or wastewater treatment facilities. Assists with maintaining plant compliance with EPA standards and state water Commission. Performs general cleaning of grounds and buildings. Ensures plant safety and sanitary requirements.
Work Location and Schedule
This position will travel between service areas near Bel Air, MD. Schedule is Monday through Friday. After-hour and weekend on-call support may be required. Must be available to work shift work; weekend scheduling may be required.
What you'll do
Operate and maintain water and/or wastewater treatment equipment, ensuring compliance with state and federal environmental protection limits. and adherence to Company policies and standards.
Conduct ongoing repairs to equipment or shut down equipment for more extensive maintenance and repair, activating alternate equipment as needed. Requests services of outside maintenance vendor for major repairs and overhauls.
Assist Lead Operator with emergency procedures in the event of overflow or spill of chemicals or unpurified water. Follows safety protocol.
Prepare reports and maintain logs on meter readings, tests, chemical and equipment usage, and all other recordkeeping requirements; maintains various Company records and other reports as required by the state.
Clean and maintain treatment plant, pumping stations and wells; prepare and paint equipment, walls, and floors.
Maintain a safe working environment and report safety concerns to Area Manager.
Complete facility and vehicle inspections, along with related follow-up.
Forward customer inquiries on to Operator II or Lead Operator.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Overview
The Nexus Water Group team has an opportunity for a Lead Water Treatment Operator. This role is under limited supervision, performs routine tasks related to the operation of a water treatment facility. Responsible for maintaining plant compliance with EPA standards and state water Commission. Assists with training of other personnel and leading work crews. Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes and works cooperatively to provide quality seamless utility service. Works with Area Manager and/or State Director to ensure continuity of processes, goals and vision of the company.
Work Location and Schedule
This position will travel between service areas near Bel Air, MD. Schedule is Monday through Friday. After-hour and weekend on-call support may be required. Must be available to work shift work; weekend scheduling may be required.
What you'll do
* Oversee the operation and maintenance of water treatment equipment, ensuring compliance with state and federal environmental protection limits.
* Oversee the organization and delegation of team tasks.
* Develop and maintains operational records and prepares reports in compliance with regulatory standards.
* Oversee sampling and testing systems, and the functionality of pumps, conveyors, blowers and other equipment.
* Installs and repairs pumps, motors, valves and piping; diagnoses, repairs and clarifies aeration equipment, ion exchange bins, filtration equipment and other major apparatuses.
* Monitor and samples well and groundwater upon entry to the system. Adjusts treatment levels when non-standard variances are detected. Samples water prior to exiting system.
* Detect and reports atypical conditions, such as: identifying damaged, malfunctioning and tampered meters, detecting and reporting leaks, high/low consumption, exposed wiring and other safety hazards.
* Clean and maintains treatment plant, pumping stations and wells. Conducts ongoing repairs to equipment, or shuts down equipment for more extensive maintenance and repair, activating alternate equipment as needed. Requests services of outside maintenance vendor for major repairs and overhauls.
* Activates pumps, valves and other processing equipment to move water through various treatment processes. Disposes of waste materials removed from water in line with Company procedures and government controls.
* Implement emergency procedures in the event of overflow or spill of chemicals or unpurified water. Follows safety protocol and notifies local emergency responders.
* Add chemicals to water by predetermined formula. Maintains minimum inventory levels of these materials.
* Read and interprets meters and gauges on central control panel, or at individual machines or stages in the treatment process. Adjust controls as needed. Retrieve computer reports on treatment process.
* Prepare reports and maintains logs on meter readings, tests, chemical and equipment usage, and all other recordkeeping requirements; maintains various Company records and other reports as required by the state.
* Back-wash filters and basins; handles chlorine in a safe, effective manner; assures proper working order of chlorine-related equipment.
* Ensure regulatory compliance and adherence to Company policies and standards.
* Coordinate construction and excavation involved in system repairs; estimates required labor and materials; identifies equipment needed for all projects; orders necessary parts.
* Maintain a safe working environment and reports safety concerns to manager.
* Train personnel in the areas of laboratory analysis, operations and maintenance procedures, as well as compliance to Company policies and procedures.
* Ensure all operators are equipped with necessary tools, parts and safety equipment to work effectively.
* Stay abreast of Federal, State and local regulations and environmental guidelines regarding wastewater treatment and distribution.

This role is under limited supervision, performs routine tasks related to the operation of a water treatment facility. Responsible for maintaining plant compliance with EPA standards and state water Commission. Assists with training of other personnel and leading work crews. Works with Area Manager and/or State Director to ensure continuity of processes, goals and vision of the company.
Work Location and Schedule
This position will travel between service areas near Bel Air, MD. Schedule is Monday through Friday. After-hour and weekend on-call support may be required. Must be available to work shift work; weekend scheduling may be required.
What you'll do
Oversee the operation and maintenance of water treatment equipment, ensuring compliance with state and federal environmental protection limits.
Oversee the organization and delegation of team tasks.
Develop and maintains operational records and prepares reports in compliance with regulatory standards.
Oversee sampling and testing systems, and the functionality of pumps, conveyors, blowers and other equipment.
Installs and repairs pumps, motors, valves and piping; diagnoses, repairs and clarifies aeration equipment, ion exchange bins, filtration equipment and other major apparatuses.
Monitor and samples well and groundwater upon entry to the system. Adjusts treatment levels when non-standard variances are detected. Samples water prior to exiting system.
Detect and reports atypical conditions, such as: identifying damaged, malfunctioning and tampered meters, detecting and reporting leaks, high/low consumption, exposed wiring and other safety hazards.
Clean and maintains treatment plant, pumping stations and wells. Conducts ongoing repairs to equipment, or shuts down equipment for more extensive maintenance and repair, activating alternate equipment as needed. Requests services of outside maintenance vendor for major repairs and overhauls.
Activates pumps, valves and other processing equipment to move water through various treatment processes. Disposes of waste materials removed from water in line with Company procedures and government controls.
Implement emergency procedures in the event of overflow or spill of chemicals or unpurified water. Follows safety protocol and notifies local emergency responders.
Add chemicals to water by predetermined formula. Maintains minimum inventory levels of these materials.
Read and interprets meters and gauges on central control panel, or at individual machines or stages in the treatment process. Adjust controls as needed. Retrieve computer reports on treatment process.
Prepare reports and maintains logs on meter readings, tests, chemical and equipment usage, and all other recordkeeping requirements; maintains various Company records and other reports as required by the state.
Back-wash filters and basins; handles chlorine in a safe, effective manner; assures proper working order of chlorine-related equipment.
Ensure regulatory compliance and adherence to Company policies and standards.
Coordinate construction and excavation involved in system repairs; estimates required labor and materials; identifies equipment needed for all projects; orders necessary parts.
