Weston & Sampson Services is currently looking for an Operator to support operations and maintenance out of our Charleston, Columbia, or Greenville South Carolina offices. The ideal candidate will have both water and wastewater experience.
What you'll do:
Responsible for the safe operation of wastewater treatment plants in an assigned geographical work area.
Follow all safety rules and operation procedures established by Weston & Sampson Services.
Responsible for proper sample collection and related laboratory tests or process tests, reading of gauges & meters where necessary.
Mathematical aptitude to effectively perform calculations associated with the position.
Mechanical aptitude to service, maintain, and repair a wide variety of machinery and equipment.
Comply with all requirements to provide high quality wastewater treatment as established by the company and governmental regulatory and environmental agencies. Provide high quality service to our clients.
The ability to learn and use computer programs such as Outlook, Microsoft Office, Teams.
Must be available for work after business hours and during emergencies when needed.
Physical capability to perform heavy manual labor in all types of weather.
Must be reliable, responsible, organized, resourceful, and able to think and act promptly.
Ability to cooperate/collaborate with other operators and laboratory personnel as needed.
Strong problem solving and prioritizing skills.
Ability to progress to higher levels of certification with increased level of responsibility upon successful completion.

What you will bring:
Qualified candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
The possession of a Class C or higher Biological Wastewater Treatment license, or.
Possession of a Class C Physical Chemical Wastewater Treatment license, or.
Possession of a Class D Water Treatment or Water Distribution license.

The development of the Water Damage Specialist at the intermediate level has four (4) objectives: 1) to act as head of the water damage team that deals with residential losses and small commercial losses; 2) knowledge and technical competence in IICRC's standard work practices on water and mold damage; 3) competence in the use, care and maintenance of water extraction equipment, portable drying equipment and moisture detection instruments; and 4) ability to determine the extent, dimension and distribution of moisture, and to document water losses. Intermediaries provide assistance in the development of basic level technicians and assist advanced technicians in complex or large-scale projects. Intermediaries in CAT service can simultaneously manage multiple losses for water, including the organization and management of temporary workers. To qualify for this position, you must have 12 months of previous experience in the Basic Level of Water Damage in BELFOR or equivalent standard experience in the sector, as well as having directly participated in (at least) 25 water damage projects. This position represents level 3 in the progressive itinerary of Water Damage.
Responsibilities
Must be able to receive the instructions provided by the Supervisor.
Direct the teams in the use of the right PPE for the job.
Review the daily requirements of projects, document progress and notify managers of progress and challenges encountered.
Provide appropriate field documentation, photographic records, charts and sketches for various TPA projects.
Perform daily inspections of vehicle safety and maintenance and keep these clean and in perfect conditions of use.
Attention to details.

Job Description
The Water Treatment Plant Operator will:
* Ensure compliance with division's policies and procedures, standards of quality and safety, and all applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations
* Attend all required training and acquires CEUs to maintain Physical/Chemical Wastewater Operator license
* Adhere to safety culture and follows procedures to ensure safe working environment
* Report any safety hazards promptly that cannot be corrected or mitigated at individual level
* Adjust biological, chemical and/or physical processes to ensure plant is operating properly
* Troubleshoot the plant when there are operational upsets
* Run control system in accordance with supervisory guidelines to achieve discharge quality and volume requirements
* Assist with or directly performs in field maintenance as needed on pumps/valving/equipment
* Perform shift inspections and reports aberrations promptly to supervision if unable to correct
* Perform routine measurements and records results through spreadsheets and communicates via email
* Use mobile equipment as necessary for transporting reagent totes/skids
* Perform all other duties as may be assigned to meet organizational needs
Physical Requirements:
* While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs, talk, hear, and see.
* Must be able to work shift work with 12-hour shifts on a rotating day and night schedule.
* Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) during the workday.
* Work is in a surface mine plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity.
* Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine environment, including hart hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required.
Qualifications
* Associate degree or the equivalent of two years of college with studies in hard science, such as engineering, chemistry, geology, biology, mathematics or physics OR
* Four years in water/wastewater plant operations (or closely related field)
* Current physical/chemical license of C level or higher could accelerate considerations

Job DescriptionWe are seeking a motivated individual to join our Columbia Site Operations Team based in Gaston, SC. The ideal candidate for the Chemical Operator will possess strong technical skills, a commitment to safety, and the ability to operate complex production equipment while maintaining process efficiency. They should be proactive, have excellent troubleshooting abilities, and work well within a team environment to support all aspects of production.Responsibilitieshe Chemical Operator will be reportable to the Shift Supervisor and have responsibilities for the following tasks:
Monitor the process through a Distributed Control System (DCS) and adjust process conditions as necessary; log changes, monitor sample results, write work notifications, and send out production reports.
Perform work outside the control room in the production areas related to production services, product sampling, packaging, and materials handling, including proper handling of waste streams, including hazardous waste.
Collect and submit appropriate samples for analysis, using analytical and/or process trends to determine whether re-sampling or process adjustments are needed.
Monitor operating parameters by reading gauges, instruments, and meters; compare readings to known requirements, log information, and take action as necessary.
Respond and react to any alarms within the operating area.
Utilize job knowledge, equipment specification sheets, and operating procedures to monitor and adjust the process via DCS or manually
Start up and shut down process equipment as needed using written procedures.
Assist Maintenance, E&I, and Construction teams, including during shutdowns.
Know the location of valves, pumps, piping, and all critical equipment.
Operate and monitor production equipment such as filter and dryer systems, oxidizers, distillation equipment, pumps, and heat exchangers, cutter systems, tank farm levels, utilities, etc
Make adjustments, open/close valves, bypasses, switch strainers, clean immersion vessels, and perform other tasks as requested.
Perform startups, shutdowns, and process transitions using proper written procedures and checklists.
Troubleshoot problems with flows, levels, equipment, and other process issues using job knowledge, equipment specification sheets, and operating procedures.
Patrol the operating area at designated times routinely to ensure safe operation; make comments on patrol sheets and follow up on concerns with the Team Manager.
Comply with all regulations as applied to the specific job area, including but not limited to MACT/Title V Environmental documentation, food safety regulations, etc.
Serve on the plant ERT (Emergency Response Team)
Required SkillsThe requirements that an individual must possess to perform the essential elements of the job:
Job Skills/Educational Requirements:
Associate's degree in a related technical field or a higher-level qualification (preferred)
2+ years of experience as a chemical operator or handler in a manufacturing environment
In-depth understanding of fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, pressure systems, and computerized control systems
Competencies:
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Excellent interpersonal communication skills and a strong commitment to safety practices
Proficiency with computers and software applications
Demonstrates a high level of professionalism, including reliability, discretion, and the ability to represent the company positively in all interactions

Physical Requirements:
Must be clean shaven to ensure proper fit and seal of respirator equipment
Must not be afraid of heights and working in elevated locations on pipe bridges

Ability to work 12-hour rotating shifts.
Must be able to work scheduled and unscheduled shifts, including short-notice hours on off days, as needed to meet business requirements.
