About the role
The Utility Operator is responsible for the proper operation and maintenance of the ash handling and metal recovery equipment in the Residue Storage and Processing Building area. In this role, you will perform routine operations and inspections of the residue and metal recovery equipment.

Make major repairs to crushers, changing jaw dies, bearings, bushings, crusher mantles, etc.
Repair conveyor belts, feeders, and hydraulic systems.
Proficiently work with outside contractors on special projects.
Have a willingness to operate individually or within the constraints of a team environment.
Available to work 6-days per week plus overtime.
SPECIAL SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum of 2 years of hands on maintenance experience (or formal technical training), troubleshooting and repair.

Monitor and inspect various boiler plant auxiliary equipment, including pumps, motors, fans, dampers, air compressors, valves, mixers, conveyors, turbine generators and electrical devices
Read and interpret data from meters, gauges, and industrial measuring tools to identify trends and/or potential equipment disruptions that impact facility operations
Monitor air pollution control equipment
Perform various types of material sampling, chemistry testing, and treatment of water, as required
Safely operate heavy industrial mobile equipment, such as: cranes, skid steers, loaders, and forklifts
Responsible to maintain correct levels of refuse-fuel in operations equipment, and ensure appropriate refuse mix in designated pits and areas of operations
Additional duties as assigned to ensure safe and efficient facility operations
Position Requirements & Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent
A minimum of 2-3 years' experience operating a boiler, heavy industrial equipment some maintenance
Experience with chemistry testing a plus
Must have the ability to work a rotating shift schedule
Shift:
Rotating 12 hours days/nights and additional overtime as needed/during outages

Ability to walk, stand, sit, and climb
Ability to lift/carry 50lbs
Ability to work from heights and in confined spaces
Qualify to wear a full-face respirator

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
* Supervises and manages the operation of treatment facilities, injection wells, percolation evaporation ponds, spray irrigation, reclaimed water operations, bio-solids processing, and disposal systems.
* Supervises and trains operators in the inspection, adjustment, minor repair, and cleaning of treatment plant equipment such as chlorinators, blowers, sludge collectors, sludge handling equipment, chemical feeders, pumps, valves, screens, and related equipment.
