Luck Stone Mount Airy Plant is seeking an experienced Plant Operator to join their team. Production is the core of our business. Our Plant Operators monitor our crushers, conveyors, screens, feeders and bins to maximize production and provide quality products. Since safety is a top priority at Luck, much of your responsibility will focus on ensuring that our equipment and machinery remain in top-notch condition through hands on maintenance.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Pre-shift inspection of the plant
Assist with preventative and reactive maintenance: changing screens, greasing, changing rollers, belt splices, rebuilding crushers, welding, and fabrication
Consistently inspect and monitor plant to ensure proper operation
Assists with other site projects as requested by management and team members
Flexibility to assist team members as needed with other projects
Aiding coworkers to ensure that the site is clean and organized at the end of each shift
Qualifications:
Prior experience preferred operating and/or performing maintenance in a similar environment
Mechanically inclined-proven work experience
Basic welding or torch skills
Passion for learning
Comfortable working from elevated platforms and other heights without fear
Pay starts at $20.58 per hour and could increase upon skills and experience evaluation from management.

Changes in business volume and production requirements can cause the plant to occasionally change the length of work shifts or the shift schedule.

What You'll Do:
The Wastewater Operator I or II performs skilled and technical work in the operation and maintenance of a computer-controlled wastewater treatment plant. Duties include monitoring and adjusting plant processes, operating SCADA systems, collecting and analyzing samples, performing minor equipment repairs, and maintaining facility cleanliness and safety. This entry-level role offers on-the-job training and involves both technical and hands-on work to ensure the safe and efficient treatment of wastewater in compliance with regulatory standards. The position reports to the Plant Supervisor.
Essential Tasks & Responsibilities:
Wastewater Operator I
* Makes regular tours of plant, which requires a considerable amount of climbing of stairs and walking, to inspect process operations including bar screens, mixers, valves, pumps, aerators, settling basins, filters, clarifiers, effluent filters, blowers, pressure gauges, etc., for proper functioning;
* Records instrument readings in laboratory and throughout the plant, makes necessary adjustments including opening or closing valves and switching process equipment on or off;
* Collect samples as required and runs required laboratory analysis which includes calibrating and operating the instrumentation used in the analysis;
* Operate complex computer controlled equipment;
* Cleans pumps, motors and other equipment;
* Reports defects to proper personnel;
* Operates skid steer and other equipment as required;
* Performs minor maintenance activities; (PM's, repairs, replace light bulbs, vehicle clean up)
* Assists in cleaning different units of treatment, buildings, and other odd jobs as needed and maintains grounds as necessary;
* Ensures that all work is performed in accordance with OSHA and City Safety Standards and Policies.
* Entry Level Position- On-the-job training approximately 6 months.
Wastewater Operator II
All of the above plus:
* Assists with on-the-job training of Wastewater Operator I new hires;
* Maintains various recordkeeping and reporting forms.
* Must have a Grade III NC Wastewater Operator Certification.
* Must have a minimum of four years actual operating experience at a Grade IV Biological Wastewater Facility.

Qualifications:
Wastewater Operator I

Operators are responsible for a great deal of equipment and learning to discern between normal and abnormal operations of facility processes and accurately recording results of all monitoring and laboratory analyses is essential.
* Laboratory equipment such as drying oven, muffle furnace, dissolved oxygen meters, pH meters, ammonia meters, scales, conductivity meter, microscope, etc.
* Chemicals used in the laboratory and wastewater treatment processes such as sodium hypochlorite, lime, aluminum sulfate, alconox glass cleaner, sodium hydroxide, pH 4 acetate, and ammonium chloride.
* Sample collection includes using automatic and manual samplers, reading gauges and manually adjusting valves.

Inspect waste in the suction chamber on spinning frames at the following times: (7:00, 11:00, 1:00, 3:00, and 5:00). Remove any excessive amounts of waste and report to shift manager immediately. Do not pull waste manually unless the automated waste extraction is not working properly or for what ever reason there is an excessive amount of waste present. Always verify that suction door is closed properly after removing waste.

When APL is packing on wooden bottoms and cardboard separators, work as a team with other utility person to take cardboard to the proper bailer between 5:00 and 6:00 or as needed throughout the shift.
Survey each spindle unit on all assigned machines to determine immediate wax and/or tubes needs. Once all immediate needs have been taken care of begin assigned cycle.
Replace wax as needed and take used wax to designated area in shipping warehouse. Wax should be changed when it is 5mm thick or less according to Wax Changing Procedure as outlined below.
Inventory wax and report to shift manager daily.
Wax is to be changed on a random basis.

About the role
The Wastewater Treatment Technician is responsible for carrying out the routine operational and maintenance, environmental and safety duties as assigned. · Identify and report operating anomalies to the Operations Supervisor or Maintenance Department.
· Direct and assist with the operation of the sludge transfer and dewatering systems.
· Conduct basic laboratory tests to evaluate wastewater samples, as directed.
Requirements:
· Wastewater certification preferred.
· 1 year experience as Waste Water Treatment Technician
· High School diploma/GED. Formal training in higher level of education preferred.
· With adequate training after being hired, be able to install and operate remediation systems including but not limited to pumps, filters, vessels, media change-outs, etc.
· Shop work including but not limited to cleaning and maintaining shop and equipment, operating heavy equipment (forklifts, Vac-Trucks, etc.).
