Job Summary
The Operator Trainee (OT) for the Denver System is a critical member of the Denver Operations team, reporting directly to the Operations and Maintenance Manager (OMM) and will also take direction from the Director of Operations (DOO). The candidate is responsible for ensuring the successful execution of providing CenTrio's customers with an ambient loop temperature ranging from 51 degrees to 71 degrees on a 24/7/365 basis. The OT will work at the Plant normally Monday through Friday and be on-call for any emergencies. The Monday through Friday schedule may change depending on activities at the plant with overtime hours as required to fulfill the needs of the plant.
The OT will be a self-starter that can accommodate working in a fast-paced environment, strong commitment to deadlines and team, is process oriented with a high sense of ownership in their work, possesses a high degree of intellectual curiosity, and has a superior knowledge of operating this unique system.
Duties & Responsibilities
Perform all duties as assigned - Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot equipment Sewer Heat Recovery System the distribution system and in building equipment as required
Ensure new buildings can connect to the system and operate as required
Assist in the assemble of weekly and monthly reports
Work with management and peers to Identify and scope out opportunities to maximize production, minimize operating costs and eliminate downtime
Maintain proper documentation, including operating logs, maintenance records and safety & environmental reports
Keep the OMM, DO and control room and other remote operators and peers fully informed of unusual plant conditions and current job progress as the job relates to facility operations when assigned on-shift and transitioning shift.
Commitment to following all applicable company and client policies, procedures and work rules, and modeling appropriate actions and behaviors
Participate in training on operating policies and procedures
Identify and perform all the necessary tests on the system and insure and meet the contractual standards
Work in confined spaces, such as boilers, vaults, and work from ladders, scaffolds, catwalks, etc.
Transferring chemicals into storage tanks
Monitor the plant control system via computer screens and equipment gauges
Perform continuous improvements on the appearance of the plant facility including snow removal as needed.
Additional duties include, but are not necessarily limited to: starting and stopping plant equipment as needed; diagnosing and correcting problems in equipment and auxiliaries; changing oil, lubricating bearings and filling station logs, receiving deliveries
Immediate Expectations
Due to the nature of the system the below are immediate expectations for the Denver System:
Assist in setting up the controls to work as needed to operate the system as energy efficient as possible,
Understand what is needed for the building side reporting

Complete Delta V Reporting
Assists in getting pricing for approval for: New Valves, Cleaning of the Heat Exchanger, reconfigure the Heat Exchanger and other tasks as may be required
Get schedules and led times for above items
Skills & Qualifications
High School diploma or GED
Required Licensure/Certification: Universal EPA certification within 12 months of hire.
Experience required operating and maintaining cooling or heating plant and equipment including pumping, piping, instrumentation, etc.
Knowledge required of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and control systems
Controls experience required to operate and regulate plant equipment/systems including boilers, chillers, heat exchangers, cooling towers, valves, actuators, sensors, transmitters, etc.
Proficiency required with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Highly analytical with attention to detail for problem-solving and troubleshooting
Strong verbal and written communication skills required
Effective collaboration and meeting coordination skills with internal and external stakeholders required
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to work in tight spaces and elevated positions: twisting, turning, bending, and holding arms at / above the head are all common movements; able to lift up to 100lbs;
Must be able to clearly see and differentiate all colors
Must be able to maintain standard threshold of hearing to safely perform job duties
Must have good eyesight, hearing and manual dexterity

Shift:
Days: Monday - Friday, 8 hours per day. Shift times may vary to meet operational requirements. Weekend and OT work may be required.

Supervision Received
Works under the oversight of the Water Plant Lead Operator and under the supervision of the Water Plant Supervisor.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Operates a Class A Water Treatment Plant including preventative maintenance, inspection, and repair of plant equipment. Operates and monitors motors, pumps, filtration, chemical dosing equipment and valves to ensure adequate supply and proper treatment of potable water to the district's customers. Ensures compliance with all Federal and State water quality regulations and permits.
Working with the Water Production and Distribution department, monitors water production to maintain adequate water levels in the storage tanks. Determines daily needs based on computer generated data, experience and daily and/or seasonal weather changes.
Adheres to the standard operating procedures and assists in the development of said procedures.
Verbally reports emergencies and malfunctions and emergencies to the Water Plant Lead Operator and/or Water Plant Supervisor and initiates proper action per procedures. Perform appropriate follow-up procedures.
Inspects equipment and makes recommendations to the Water Plant Supervisor regarding necessary repairs, maintenance, and calibration. Collaborates with the district's maintenance department on the upkeep and replacement of equipment. Makes recommendations on the replacement schedule or type of equipment.
Collects water samples, performs multiple laboratory tests, maintains accurate laboratory records, and notifies Water Plant Lead Operator and the Water Plant Supervisor when parameters are outside of established norms.
Orders and offloads bulk chemicals for the treatment of water. Calculates chemical orders based on technical expertise and standard operating procedures. Maintains adequate chemical and supply inventories.
Records data required for regulatory purposes. Creates daily operational reports on all changes made to the treatment plant, well system, and distribution system.
Works independently and with the team to ensure all Federal, State and Local regulations are met.
Utilizes a variety of computer programs and databases during daily duties. Analyzes data and creates reports to aid in the evaluation of data and trends.
Attend technical and safety training meetings, courses and seminars as required.
Submits expense reports to the appropriate application or the Water Plant Supervisor.
Assists with District public relations by representing the district in the community or responding to telephone inquiries and concerns from the general public.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Operator follows procedures that are set forth in the form of batch records and work instructions. Operates Water Treatment Facility and Related Facilities
Operates water treatment facility to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations; the City's operating plan; and local policies and standards. Including various monitoring plans and sample collection.
Monitors and adjusts production based on water distribution system conditions to maintain storage levels, demand levels, and water quality.
Monitors and operates source water facilities including reservoirs and pumping stations. Communicates status and/or issues of the facilities to plant staff and supervisor.
Monitors effectiveness and efficiency of treatment processes. Makes recommendations for modifications based on plant performance. Modifies treatment parameters under delegation from the Operator in Responsible Charge as required.
Maintains required documentation, transmits to State and Federal entities as applicable.
Communicates changes in operating conditions and plant performance in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Monitors/orders inventory of various chemicals and media required for treatment and communicates order status to relevant staff.
Responds to water related emergencies.
May serve as Operator in Responsible Charge.
Maintains Water Treatment Facility or Water Reclamation Facility and Related Facilities
Maintains and assists with maintenance of a variety of industrial equipment including pumps, motors, valves, and other mechanical and electrical devices.
Maintains underground and ground level water storage tanks and related equipment. communicate deficiencies or issues as needed to appropriate plant staff and supervisor.
Maintains water supply reservoirs, ditches, and related facilities including working in and around open water and use of watercraft.
May operate heavy equipment including backhoes, wheel loaders, and dump trucks.
Maintains facilities, including but not limited to, painting, plumbing, carpentry, landscaping, and general housekeeping.
Makes recommendations on capital maintenance and capital construction projects.
Monitors Water Quality
Conducts sampling at source water facilities including reservoirs, ditches, and pipelines; treatment facility; treated water storage tanks; distribution system; and at customer taps.
Performs and documents laboratory analysis in accordance with state and federal requirements, and City policies, procedures, and standards. Coordinate analysis by independent laboratories as needed.
Maintains and calibrates various laboratory equipment.
Prepares reports and recommendations related to water quality and regulatory compliance and transmits results and reports to regulatory agencies as required or needed.
Responds to customer complaints and inquiries.

OVERVIEW OF POSITION / DEPARTMENT
Aurora Water is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the drinking water, sanitary sewer and storm drainage systems, treatment of drinking water and non-potable reclaimed wastewater for irrigation, billing and collection, public outreach and water conservation, acquisition and development of future water rights, major capital projects programs, and quality control for regulatory compliance and public health.
The Water Treatment Maintenance Specialist in the Water Treatment Division participates in a number of activities at the water and wastewater treatment plants that include but are not limited to repair and maintenance of treatment plant equipment and facilities, receiving chemical deliveries including chlorine, learning the operation of the treatment plant, snow removal, and facility housekeeping. The person in this job will work around hazardous chemicals, perform laboratory testing, and must be able to pass a respiratory medical physical and it is recommended they have the Hepatitis B immunization series.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Leads work crews in the repair and maintenance of water, wastewater, reuse equipment, water storage tanks, and treatment facilities
Assists with scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repair of water plant equipment, structures, and buildings
Assists in monitoring plantoperations including assisting with laboratory tests on raw and treated water and chemical changes
Experience with chemical feeders, tanks, pumps, motors, piping systems, and valves
Mixes and loads chemicals
Maintains plant security
Performs janitorial, building, and grounds maintenance
Uses tools such as hand tools, shovel, jack hammer and power tools
Required to participate in confined space entries at whatever capacities assigned
Assists with snow removal activities and snow standby call duties
Basic knowledge of the city computer systems
