Department: Facilities Mgmt EV Salary/Grade: 399/S3 Operate and maintain the Central Utility Plant high high-pressure steam boilers and auxiliaries, in a safe and efficient manner, under the direct supervision of the shift operating engineer.

Specific Responsibilities:
* Operates boilers and accompanying ancillary equipment as instructed, maintaining proper steam pressure and water levels and insuring safe and reliable operation of the equipment.
* Maintains neat and accurate operating and maintenance log entries as required.
* Performs daily water treatment tests on boilers/closed loops, maintaining proper chemical levels.
* Willingness to work shift vacancies caused by vacations or openings.
* Willingness to work shift maintenance when scheduled or required.

* Must be a member of Operating Engineers Local 399, or join after satisfactory completion of a 90-day probationary period.

What you'll do

Monitors, operates, and cleans plant equipment. Work ranges from taking readings, operating valves, cleaning and restoring equipment. The majority of the work is performed in the plant basement area, which is a high noise area, and subject to temperature extremes. This is an entry level developmental position which receives technical guidance, training and assignments from higher level auxiliary operators and supervisors. The hourly pay rate for this role ranges from $38.33- 39.08/hr. This role is also eligible for Medical, dental, and vision insurance for the employee and their eligible dependents.
Job Description
Key Accountabilities:
Work a 12-hour rotating shift.
Perform safety sensitive tasks.
Work around moving equipment and high-energy pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
Monitor and operate ash collection equipment, water treatment equipment, and other auxiliary plant support systems.
Work with manual tools to operate large valve and vessel doors. Close and open large manual valves and perform various cleaning evolutions.
May drive light trucks and fork lifts.
Education, Experience & Skills Requirements:
High school graduate or equivalent required.
Prior operations or maintenance experience preferred
Knowledge of power plant fundamentals in chemistry, physics, electricity and mathematics preferred.
Must be able to work a 12 hour rotating shift
Must be able to pass the POSS/MASS test
Work environment requires the ability to don a respirator for some duties.
Performs repetitive and non-repetitive duties requiring lifting, push/pull, stretching, bending and twisting. Lifting, pushing, and/or pulling requires a minimum ability of 50 pounds. May work in temperatures below freezing in winter months and above 110 degrees in summer months in parts of the plant. may work at heights off of a platform or scaffold and may work in a pit or other confined spaces.
Must successfully complete/pass POSS/MASS aptitude test
*****Grade/level will be dependent on experience/skills*****
Must remain clean shaven in compliance with OSHA respirator fit testing standards.

Examines blueprints or work order to determine finished specifications of parts. Loads material into machine for machining. Starts machine, observes operation, and verifies conformance of parts to specifications, using measuring instruments, such as gages, calipers, and micrometers.
