About the Role
We are seeking a Chemical Operator to support the manufacturing of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) in a regulated production environment. This role involves operating large-scale chemical reactors, following detailed procedures, maintaining accurate documentation, and adhering to strict safety standards.
This is a hands-on position ideal for someone with experience in chemical manufacturing, batch processing, or large-scale reactor operations.
Key Responsibilities
Operate large-scale chemical reactors (100+ gallon; multi-kilogram scale preferred) for organic chemical synthesis
Execute chemical reaction steps in strict accordance with established manufacturing procedures and SOPs
Draft, update, and follow standard operating procedures related to chemical manufacturing
Accurately document reaction data, observations, and process notes throughout each batch
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area; clean and properly store equipment after use
Track raw material and finished product inventory with detailed and accurate logs
Handle, collect, and dispose of chemical waste in compliance with safety and regulatory requirements
Maintain waste handling and disposal documentation
Follow all chemical safety protocols, including proper use of PPE and safety equipment
Utilize basic computer tools (Microsoft Office, Adobe PDF, internet-based systems) for documentation and reporting
Complete EPA RCRA HAZWOPER training if not already certified
Qualifications
Education
High school diploma or equivalent required
Experience
Experience working with hazardous chemicals preferred
Experience with large-scale reactor systems and/or synthetic organic chemistry preferred
Skills & Abilities
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow detailed written procedures

Job Summary
Implement the Production Fulfillment Process steps related to the fabrication of parts according to work order and customer requirements. Ensures machinery is set up, works properly, and conforms with (and can produce materials that conform with) company quality, quantity, and efficiency standards.
Operate one or more non CNC controlled production machines to include but not limited to lathes, horizontal and vertical mills, saws, tape cutters, etc. Second of four levels of skilled machinist work. Projects have some diversity in scope and work order instructions. Set-up and operate machines in multiple families of equipment that include but are not limited to saws, manual mills, lathes, presses, routers etc.
Operates tools according to instructions, specifications, and standard charts.
Places and secures work pieces in proper machine table, holding device, or other appropriate surface using clamps and wrenches.
Load, operate and manufacture a variety of parts using various manufacturing equipment to make custom parts according to customer orders and instructions written on Work Orders and blue prints
Complete project work as needed involving the assembly of parts that require the use of hand tools, paint accessories and mechanical devices
Complete work order paperwork and demonstrate an outstanding record of quality, efficiency and productivity
Perform in-process inspection according to standard procedures
Maintain count and perform packaging duties as required
Participate in cross training activities to become knowledgeable of equipment/process within the department
Perform routine daily machine maintenance including cleaning up and lubrication
Maintain a clean and organized work area

Overview
The Nexus Water Group team has an opportunity for a Water-Wastewater Operator I. This role is under direct supervision, performs routine tasks related to the operation of water and/or wastewater treatment facilities. Assists with maintaining plant compliance with EPA standards and state water Commission. Performs general cleaning of grounds and buildings. Ensures plant safety and sanitary requirements.
Work Location and Schedule
This position will travel between service areas near Rockford, IL. Schedule is Monday through Friday. After-hour and weekend on-call support may be required. Must be available to work shift work; weekend scheduling may be required.
What you'll do
Operate and maintain water and/or wastewater treatment equipment, ensuring compliance with state and federal environmental protection limits. and adherence to Company policies and standards.
Conduct ongoing repairs to equipment or shut down equipment for more extensive maintenance and repair, activating alternate equipment as needed. Requests services of outside maintenance vendor for major repairs and overhauls.
Assist Lead Operator with emergency procedures in the event of overflow or spill of chemicals or unpurified water. Follows safety protocol.
Prepare reports and maintain logs on meter readings, tests, chemical and equipment usage, and all other recordkeeping requirements; maintains various Company records and other reports as required by the state.
Clean and maintain treatment plant, pumping stations and wells; prepare and paint equipment, walls, and floors.
Maintain a safe working environment and report safety concerns to Area Manager.
Complete facility and vehicle inspections, along with related follow-up.
Forward customer inquiries on to Operator II or Lead Operator.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities
Monitor the operation of the plant constantly to monitor production and quality, anticipating and solving problems in a timely manner, and identifying opportunities for improvement.

Review the slurry and fermentation process to ensure accuracy and the highest quality of product. (Slurry Operator)

Cross train with other operators to assure adequate coverage during unexpected interruptions in the plant. May need to watch the boards when a supervisor has to step away.
Participate in projects that improve efficiency and/or reduce operating costs.
Perform scheduled Operations Work Requests as requested by Supervisor or Plant Management.
