Requirements
What is the role of the Asphalt Plant Division? The Asphalt Plant Division is in the Production Group. At each facility, we unload granite stone, crush recycled asphalt, crush concrete, and produce asphalt.
What is an Asphalt PlantOperator (APO)? This person gets to assist in all ground operations at the plant, crusher, and unloading facility. .
What you will get to do:
Monitor material piles and communicate with Plant leadership of material levels
Grease entire plant and check oil levels of machines and equipment
Unload liquid material, lime, and other aggregate as needed
Run the water truck as required
Keep plant areas (yard, tower, etc.) clean and organized
Assist in keeping aggregate material piles clean and organized
Change out bad rollers
Help with other plant facility tasks as required

Position Summary:
Under direct supervision of the Operations Shift Supervisor, and leadership from the Operator, this associate while in a training capacity, assists in the performance of all required job duties to produce treated effluent that meet all state and federal regulations.
Essential Functions:
Residuals treatment and disposal meeting all state and federal regulations.
Collect and analyze samples for control and optimization of all treatment plant processes.
Conduct bench-top tests for control and optimization of all treatment plant processes.
Required to work with chemicals.
Monitor and insure that all equipment is in proper working condition; communicate with the shift supervisor and/or maintenance department personnel concerning problems encountered.
Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on equipment as required.
Monitor and operate the most economical and efficient equipment based upon treatment process needs, distribution system demands, and power consumption.
Monitor and perform calculations, implement, and optimize chemical dosages.
Prepare and maintain accurate daily and monthly plantoperations reports, and chemical inventory records. Input data into various databases
Maintain accurate and complete plantoperation logs.
Order chemicals and handle deliveries as required.
May be required to work under emergency conditions.
Regular attendance is required.
Job performance must conform to all CWS policies and procedures.
Specific knowledge of CWS Environmental Management System Policy and Procedures.
Additional Duties

Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward, or outward.
Routinely ascend/descend ladders, stairs and ramps as high as thirteen (13) stories. Ability to work at elevated height levels as needed to perform various task.
Constantly positions self to move, traverse for long distances as necessary to perform required work. Must be able to move about extensively to make inspections of treatment plant with varied topography and features.
Ability to work 12 hour shifts, rotating. (Both day and night)
Constantly works in internal / external environmental conditions. Subject to atmospheric conditions of one or more of the following that affect the respiratory system or skin: Fumes (paint), odors, dusts, gases, etc. Personnel Protective Equipment Required.
Worker may be required to wear a respirator and/or self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).
Required to work with chemicals used in wastewater treatment processes.
Ability to navigate restricted spaces such as chemical pits, spiral stairwell, etc as needed to perform required job functions.
Must be able to wear Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE) as defined in the Job Safety Analysis (JSA) to perform the required essential functions.

The candidate demonstrating the following abilities may be placed at a Grade 106:
Must successfully complete a proficiency in the job skills required for each level as outlined in the CWS Apprenticeship Program for Wastewater Treatment PlantOperator.
Associate Degree in a Technical/Mechanical field and minimum of three years relevant industrial experience, for example - chemical manufacturing, industrial boilers, nuclear operator, water/wastewater treatment plan; OR Combination of education/experience to equal 6 years; OR has Obtained a “D” level Water/Wastewater License.
Additional education preferred beyond high school.

Must have a minimum of two years of experience operating in a surface water treatment plant or secondary wastewater treatment plant.
Must comply with requirements of the Operator Apprentice Program or the Incumbent Accelerated Journeyman Program.
Good working knowledge of regulations and treatment techniques to resolve problems meeting permit limits.

Primary Role
Working alone or as a member of a team, and under the guidance of a Lead Operator, Supervisor or Manager, provides for the safe operation of wastewater facilities in an assigned area(s) in such a manner as to support a Supervisor or other Operators in complying with the requirements for distributing wastewater treatment and collection as established by the company and state and federal governmental regulatory agencies. Provides guidance and training to Operators and, as necessary, to less senior Operators and Plant Utility Workers assigned as members of the team.
Key Accountabilities
Operates, and performs routine duties and care of a wide variety of specialized equipment and apparatus in a plant/treatment facility and/or collection system including pumps, motors, chlorinators, chemical preparation, and feeding; physical, chemical, and biological wastewater treatment processes; control equipment and monitoring equipment.
Regulates the flow of wastewater and sludge through the treatment processes.
Maintains records of operations; submits routine reports as assigned.
Inspects all mechanical equipment for proper operation.
Performs normal lubrication, adjustments, seal packing, minor maintenance, and repairs as necessary.
Performs related field and laboratory tests as necessary to monitor and control the facilities.
Makes necessary adjustments to equipment, processes, and chemical feeders, as test results may indicate or as instructed by the Lead Operator/Supervisor.
Responds to customer service calls.
May clear clogs and/or make repairs to sewer mains.
May train other employees in the operation and care of facilities including maintenance, repairs, laboratory work, and safety, as required.
May perform duties as Chief/Lead Operator as needed.
May perform duties as Collection System Specialist as needed.
Conducts safety inspections and follows safety rules and procedures.
Communicate effectively with other operators and supervisors.
Attends and participates in operational and safety training programs as directed by management.
Always interacts with fellow employees and the public in a professional and courteous manner.
Position is subject to 24 hour call-out and overtime.

Knowledge/Skills
Working knowledge of wastewater treatment processes and collection systems.
Working knowledge of the principles of chemistry, biology, environmental science and engineering needed to successfully operate a wastewater treatment facility.
Working knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and carpentry necessary to operate and maintain wastewater facilities.
Ability to perform basic repairs needed for the operation of pumps, valves, motors and other mechanical equipment related to operations and maintenance.
Ability to operate hand tools and power tools.
Ability to read and interpret gauges, meters, plans, profile maps and detail drawings.
Ability to perform process control analysis, monitoring, compliance sampling and testing.
Able to prepare and maintain accurate paperwork such as records, logs, orders and reports.

Chemical PlantOperator - North Charleston Plant
As a Chemical PlantOperator at the North Charleston Plant you will have the opportunity to join a highly engaged team that takes pride in working safely and producing chemicals that are used to enhance the world around us such as emulsifiers, rosin, tall oil fatty acid (TOFA), and lignin. The North Charleston Plant started operation in 1948, and today employees approximately 200 team members.
Starting wages for our hourly team members is $23.72 and increases to $25.35 after having completed a probationary period. Perform all necessary pipeline connections in the raw fluid silos and the mixing transfers from batching to silos
Master sanitation schedule tasks will include the cleaning of walls, floors, ceilings, air vents, lights, overhead pipping, and exterior surfaces

Perform chemical titrations
Keep a log of temperature, pressure, chemical concentration to verify that all levels are within the established control limits

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Responsible for maintaining an open, collaborative, team-oriented work environment with Peers, Leaders, Management, and team members
· Act as the Operator in Responsible Charge for one or more water and or wastewater facilities, perform the duties required to properly maintain and repair client or company water and /or wastewater systems in accordance with company policies and the rules of the State of South Carolina
· Works with various company departments to ensure the timely completion of various assigned tasks.
· Coordinates with office team members on the preparation of reports for compliance purposes that may include but not limited to: DMRs, NDMR, Water Usage Reports, Wastewater Performance Reports, Annual Report, Consumer Confidence Report, etc

Utilities PlantOperatoroperates and maintains the generation and distribution of chilled water, steam and condensate. Operator is responsible for ensuring emergency corrective actions are taken within the Plant and to the distribution network on campus, including after-hours work.
Minimum Requirements
High school diploma and three years of specialized mechanical experience in the operation and maintenance of large steam boilers, centrifugal chilled water units, cooling towers and related mechanical equipment. Valid SC driver's license is preferred, as the employee will be required to drive state vehicles to transport equipment &/or personnel when needed. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must have knowledge of boiler and associated equipment repair, pipe fitting and basic electricity. Position requires basic computer skills and working knowledge and experience in using e-mail.
