Work involves training in the operation of an activated sludge wastewater treatment plant, with biological nutrient removal, and assisting in both preventive and corrective maintenance of plant equipment, machinery and related apparatus. Performs grounds maintenance at the wastewater treatment plant and reclaimed water facilities. Work is carried out under the general supervision of the Chief Operator, Lead Operator and/or shift wastewater plant operator. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Work involves training in the operation and process control of an activated sludge wastewater treatment plant, with biological nutrient removal. Inspects plant control panels, equipment, machinery and apparatus to insure all are operating properly. Operate plant equipment to regulate flow of materials to and from conveyors, chutes, pumps, and storage bins. Control stockpile inventory of materials. Inspect Equipment, Structures, and Material. Perform daily inspections and maintenance of the plant equipment and document items in need of repair or service. Monitor Processes and Materials. Monitor and review plant equipment systems to ensure continuous flow of materials and maintain certified products. Remove clogged materials when applicable. Document and Record Information. Assist plant management with record keeping and daily production schedules for submitting reports on production and maintenance. Read and write delivery tickets to determine the mix design called for each load. Issue delivery tickets to customers. Repair and Maintain Plant Equipment. Skilled technical work in the operation of water treatment facilities involving some office duties and extensive exposure to work in field conditions. Collects and submits data as required to assist with Department operations, such as budget preparation and purchasing planning. Trains other staff members as required. Coordinates with other Departments, vendors, and contractors to accomplish assigned tasks. Provides oversight and status reports on assigned tasks and projects. Maintains State-mandated professional qualifications by seeking out and completing approved C.E.U. courses. Performs after-hours and on-call duties. Responds to emergencies and other call-outs as directed. Responds to customer complaints and concerns. Maintains all Water Quality Complaint documentation. Collects State mandated system chemical and bacteriological samples as well as other mandated samples. Prepares routine paperwork and records using Microsoft Office programs. Understands computer operations and data entry procedures as they pertain to operational needs. Works with SCADA system to make operational changes to the plant operating parameters. Interprets data reported back by the SCADA system. Backwashes Ion Exchange and Carbon Activated vessels. Maintains remote facilities operations and security oversight via SCADA, video camera systems, and intrusion alarm systems. Coordinates operational failures with the Maintenance Department, or other agencies as may be required. Coordinates security response with Sheriff's Office, Fire Department, or other agencies as may be required. Assist the maintenance staff with maintaining mechanical and/or electrical equipment. Responds to both internal and external customers to resolve any issues that may arise. Performs general cleaning duties to keep the plant(s) and work area clean. Maintains hand-held and on-line analytical metering equipment. Additional Duties: Performs other duties as may be assigned. Possession of a valid Class "C" Water Plant Operator license by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. Considerable knowledge of the principles of pump operations and maintenance, well field operations, chlorination equipment operation and maintenance, and operation and calibration of laboratory and field analytical equipment. Job Description GENERAL DESCRIPTION This is skilled work in the operation and maintenance of the potable water facility. Includes assisting in both preventive and corrective maintenance of plant equipment, machinery and related apparatus. Works in supervisory lead capacity during assigned shift or in the absence of the Water Facility Chief Operator. Example: Overall supervision of a particular shift, supervision of A, B, and C level operators, operator trainees and/or special projects. Work is carried out under the general supervision of the Water Facility Chief Operator and is reviewed through observation, conversation, and evaluation of results achieved. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS The following essential functions represent the primary duties of this position but should not be considered an all-inclusive list of responsibilities. Other duties may be required and assigned. The primary job duty of the lead operator is oversight of daily shift operations. Functions will include the assignment of job duties for operations staff. The lead will assign work orders to staff and generate status reports for the Chief Operator and/or Water Resources Operations Manager. Assigned duties will include inspections of the treatment facility, monitoring of the plant using SCADA, generating trends and reports from SCADA for analysis, inspection of the remote sites, sample collection, on-site laboratory testing, data collection, data analysis, generator inspections, generator testing, and all other duties necessary in the operation of the facility. The lead will evaluate laboratory tests and make necessary plant adjustments to maintain optimal treatment. The lead will ensure all required reporting, testing, maintenance, and inspections of the facilities required by the operating permit. The position requires the use of computers for the purpose of record keeping, data entry, report writing, training staff, and developing and implementing plant operations SOPs. The lead will also be required to provide feedback for staff evaluations. Assist in preventive and corrective maintenance, example; lubrication, oil changes, pump installation, and/or repairs. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with employees.
