Job Summary
The Operator Trainee (OT) for the Denver System is a critical member of the Denver Operations team, reporting directly to the Operations and Maintenance Manager (OMM) and will also take direction from the Director of Operations (DOO). The candidate is responsible for ensuring the successful execution of providing CenTrio's customers with an ambient loop temperature ranging from 51 degrees to 71 degrees on a 24/7/365 basis. The OT will work at the Plant normally Monday through Friday and be on-call for any emergencies. The Monday through Friday schedule may change depending on activities at the plant with overtime hours as required to fulfill the needs of the plant.
The OT will be a self-starter that can accommodate working in a fast-paced environment, strong commitment to deadlines and team, is process oriented with a high sense of ownership in their work, possesses a high degree of intellectual curiosity, and has a superior knowledge of operating this unique system.
Duties & Responsibilities
Perform all duties as assigned - Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot equipment Sewer Heat Recovery System the distribution system and in building equipment as required
Ensure new buildings can connect to the system and operate as required
Assist in the assemble of weekly and monthly reports
Work with management and peers to Identify and scope out opportunities to maximize production, minimize operating costs and eliminate downtime
Maintain proper documentation, including operating logs, maintenance records and safety & environmental reports
Keep the OMM, DO and control room and other remote operators and peers fully informed of unusual plant conditions and current job progress as the job relates to facility operations when assigned on-shift and transitioning shift.
Commitment to following all applicable company and client policies, procedures and work rules, and modeling appropriate actions and behaviors
Participate in training on operating policies and procedures
Identify and perform all the necessary tests on the system and insure and meet the contractual standards
Work in confined spaces, such as boilers, vaults, and work from ladders, scaffolds, catwalks, etc.
Transferring chemicals into storage tanks
Monitor the plant control system via computer screens and equipment gauges
Perform continuous improvements on the appearance of the plant facility including snow removal as needed.
Additional duties include, but are not necessarily limited to: starting and stopping plant equipment as needed; diagnosing and correcting problems in equipment and auxiliaries; changing oil, lubricating bearings and filling station logs, receiving deliveries

Skills & Qualifications
High School diploma or GED
Required Licensure/Certification: Universal EPA certification within 12 months of hire.
Experience required operating and maintaining cooling or heating plant and equipment including pumping, piping, instrumentation, etc.
Knowledge required of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and control systems
Controls experience required to operate and regulate plant equipment/systems including boilers, chillers, heat exchangers, cooling towers, valves, actuators, sensors, transmitters, etc.
Proficiency required with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Physical Requirements:

- Performs complex diagnostics, repairs, calibrations, modifications and routine service on a wide variety of facilities and building equipment, systems, structures and hardware, including air handlers, domestic water, chilled water, hot water, steam, building exhaust, compressed air, controls, lighting, electrical, security systems, fire systems, etc.
- Performs corrective and preventive maintenance as scheduled. Notifies Operations Supervisor of issues in the plant.
- Evaluates problems with equipment, plans repairs and modification to equipment, locates original or alternate parts to be ordered.
- Responds to emergency situations, and is able to perform pre-determined emergency actions to place the plant back in a safe condition
- Reads local indicators/gauges and/or computer consoles at specified intervals to verify operating conditions. Utilizes manual, automatic and computerized controls to bring equipment into prescribed operating ranges.

- Maintains records of operating conditions and actions taken.

At South Platte Renew (SPR) operators have a chance to work with a variety of processes and new technologies from renewable natural gas, UV disinfection, to process optimization and research alongside SPR's Engineering team. Operators work either day, swing or night shift and have the opportunity to bid for their preferred shift every 6 months. Shift differential is provided for operators working a swing or night shift. Every operator has a rugged use laptop to have in the field to help diagnose issues and make process changes on the fly. The days are dynamic with optimization, training, team building, and opportunities to run projects and be a part of larger interdepartmental initiatives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Works under the direction of the Operator in Responsible Charge (ORC) in accordance with the SPR Written Operating Plan as appropriate to their level of certification, including but not limited to the following:
Essential Duties:

* Maintains supplies and equipment used in sampling.
* Trains on various field tests on samples using field test kits to monitor biological and chemical concentrations, such as TSS, DO, pH, Temperature, Alkalinity.
* Performs cleanup and housekeeping of work areas, equipment, and buildings using standard cleaning equipment and materials and cleaning procedures.
* Participates in safety, equipment, and process training to learn about safe chemical handling, safe equipment operation, process and equipment troubleshooting and to improve wastewater certification.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
* Monitors water treatment through the SCADA system, this includes interpreting conditions that may require physical changes to be made to the system
* Inspects water plants and pump stations, recording operational changes; backwashes filters and records data in a variety of logs
* Performs and records routine laboratory analysis relating to process control, using proper sampling techniques, submits samples to laboratory for analysis
* Calculates usage and handles chemicals to implement orders of supplies; may transport small amounts of chemicals to various treatment sites
* Checks and records static water and pumping water levels on a monthly basis, tests and records sand content of well water, checks and records pump amperages, and cleans well water meters
* Operates and performs maintenance on valves throughout system
* Measures and records filter media levels, adding media as required
* Drains and cleans reservoirs, backwashes recovery and other tanks as required
* Responds to customer complaints and questions about water quality
* Performs janitorial duties at all water plants and pump stations, including sweeping, dusting, mopping, etc.
* Performs outside plant and pump station repair and maintenance, as assigned, may include mowing grass, cleaning, painting and trimming shrubbery
* Attends safety seminars, meetings and departmental staff meetings
* Performs regularly scheduled filter changes and lubrication on various pieces of equipment
* May assist with repairing main breaks; assists other departments during crisis as necessary
* Performs other duties as assigned or required
Minimum Qualifications:
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
Water Plant Operator I: A High School Diploma or GED equivalent; supplemented by additional course work and one (1) year of experience; or any equivalent combination. A State of Colorado Class D Water Operator License is preferred, but not required.
Water Plant Operator II: An Associate's Degree; supplemented by two (2) years previous experience in water treatment; or any equivalent combination. State of Colorado Class C Water Operator License required.
Water Plant Operator III: An Associate's Degree; supplemented by three (3) years previous experience in water treatment; or any equivalent combination. State of Colorado Class B Water Operator License required.
Water Plant Operator IV: An Associate's Degree or Vocational/Technical Degree; supplemented with additional coursework and three (3) years previous experience in water treatment; or any equivalent combination. State of Colorado Class A Water Operator License required.
Once fully trained, this position will be shift based:
4 x 10-hour shifts; 1st shift: 7am-5:30pm, 2nd shift: 2pm-12:30am and 3rd shift: 10pm-8:30am, incorporated into a Sunday - Wednesday schedule or a Wednesday - Saturday schedule.

Responsibilities:
Wastewater Plant
Operate sewage treatment, sludge processing, and disposal equipment in wastewater (sewage) treatment plant to control flow and processing of sewage, monitors control panels and adjusts valves and gates manually or by remote control to regulate flow of sewage, observes variations in operating conditions and interprets meter and gauge readings, and tests results to determine load requirements.
Starts and stops pumps, engines, and generators to control flow of raw sewage through screening, settling, aeration, and sludge digestion processes
Maintain log of operations and records meter and gas readings
Gives directions to wastewater treatment-plant attendants and sewage-disposal workers in performing routine operations and maintenance, and may collect sewage sample, using dipper or bottle and conduct laboratory tests, using testing equipment, such as colorimeter.
Perform Preventative and Operational as well as corrective maintenance as required or directed.
Adhere to company policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
Makes rounds collecting samples and running analysis testing.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
High School Completion or GED Equivalent.
Valid State of Colorado Water and Wastewater class D License.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook programs.
