    This position is based at our Syracuse, NY, location. The candidate will be responsible for operating complicated machinery and electrical components. The core hours are 6:00 am to 2:30 pm. What you'll do: Plan and perform all required operations to install, maintain and repair steam boilers, air compressors, complicated electrical equipment automatic boiler controls, pumps, motors, power generating equipment and pressurized piping systems including water, steam, oil, compressed air, natural gas as related to apparatus in the powerhouse. Perform all chemical tests as needed to properly maintain boilers and associated equipment. Tear down complicated units, determine extent of troubles, repair or replace defective parts or wiring and reassemble. Use a normal range of hand tools and pipe fitting machinery to bend, thread and cut pipe. Use torch to sweat copper joints and solder as required. Install and maintain high pressure steam stations throughout the facility including steam lines, traps, strainers, regulators, valves and insulation Troubleshoot powerhouse equipment to isolate problems and repair both analog and digital control systems as needed Identify common symbols on mechanical drawings and follow both electrical and plumbing diagrams Enter and edit time schedule data using the energy management system. Qualifications: Basic (Required) Qualifications: Three years of experience with steam boilers, air compressors, electrical equipment, pumps, motors, power generating equipment and pressurized piping systems, including water, steam, oil, compressed air, and natural gas Experience with reading schematics and blueprints Authorized to work in the United States without Company sponsorship. Roles and Responsibilities Demonstrates understanding of emergency procedures, fire drills, evacuation protocols, and internal/external disaster procedures, including personal role during a fire. Maintains a safe environment by staying alert to potential hazards like wet floors, blocked egress, and other unsafe conditions. Keeps work area clean, safe, and organized daily, following infection prevention and universal precautions. Provides excellent customer service, ensuring no substantiated complaints from patients, physicians, staff, or visitors. Uses proper lifting techniques to prevent injuries and proactively addresses environmental safety hazards. Locks and tags out unsafe equipment for repair and promptly reports it to the Facility Manager. Operates steam plant boilers according to manufacturer's specifications and required codes, performing approved tests and maintaining required water treatment levels. Records and reports boiler operation data to the designated manager, ensuring all preventive maintenance is conducted on time. Complies with medical center and local fire safety codes, demonstrating knowledge of emergency response procedures and firefighting equipment. Uses the Facility Work Order System, follows "Lock Out - Tag Out" procedures, and assists with other facility tasks, including swing operator duties at the main hospital. Required Skilled and Experience: Education - High School Diploma / GED Experience - Ability to operate high pressure boiler systems. Recommended is a minimum three years' experience in operating high-pressure boilers. Licensure - A clean valid NYS Driver's license. Physical Requirements This position requires the ability to lift objects. The physical ability to rapidly respond to equipment failures within the plant is required. Work may include climbing ladders and working from heights above the boilers. The candidate will have the ability to work inside the plant with a warmer than normal environment which is not air conditioned. Good communication skills and the ability to work independently are required for this position.
