WATER TREATMENT PLANT OPERATOR • Performs work activities associated with the water treatment plant(s) by operating, controlling and calibrating electric motors, pumps, and valves to regulate the flow of raw water into the treatment plant. • Conducts frequent and periodic inspections of treatment plant(s) to properly evaluate and detect deficiencies or malfunctions and initiates corrective action by notifying management accordingly. • Performs required environmental tests, analysis, and observations and maintains detailed operating records, reports and log sheets. • Assists with the preparation of the monthly, quarterly and annual reports for the Department of Environmental Protection and the Southwest Florida Water Management District. • Regularly collects water test samples from various points according to established schedule to ensure continued compliance with regulatory standards. • Adjusts and calibrates automated devices that monitor process parameters and/or admit specified quantities of chemicals for the purpose of treatment of potable water. • Assists in making improvements in efficiency of department by making recommendations related to equipment and obtaining price quotes from vendors for daily operational supplies and equipment. • Monitors process controls and adjusts controls to regulate flow rates, loss of head pressure and water elevation and distribution. • Cleans tanks; repairs and lubricates machines and equipment and ensures that routine maintenance is performed. • Participates in new employee's orientation and may oversee work of trainees or other subordinate operators as needed or instructed. • Knowledge of OSHA, Hazmat, and District requirements in safety and operations as the job involves possible exposure to toxic chemicals, fumes, or particles and/or blood, body fluids, or tissues through contact with injured workers. • Assists in responding to chlorine leaks as a member on the Hazard Response Team. • Ensures safe use of all chemicals and mechanical treatment related supplies. • Operates emergency generators and auxiliary equipment when needed. • Works a rotating twenty-four hour, seven-day on-call shift for emergency coverage. The lead will evaluate laboratory tests and make necessary plant adjustments to maintain optimal treatment. The lead will ensure all required reporting, testing, maintenance, and inspections of the facilities required by the operating permit. The position requires the use of computers for the purpose of record keeping, data entry, report writing, training staff, and developing and implementing plant operations SOPs. The lead will also be required to provide feedback for staff evaluations. Assist in preventive and corrective maintenance, example; lubrication, oil changes, pump installation, and/or repairs. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with employees. Assist in both preventive and corrective maintenance on City owned facilities; and maintain a clean and aesthetically pleasing work area. Performs any other duties or tasks that may be assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES Working knowledge of process control procedures and principles of water treatment, pump stations, and water distribution. Ability to interpret lab analysis and make necessary adjustments to ensure a steady state of operations and proper record keeping. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work environment. Ability to perform administrative duties on computer and has a working knowledge of the Microsoft Office. Basic knowledge of the chemistry of water disinfection, hydraulics, the behavior of dynamic pressure systems, and pumps. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma or valid equivalent. Three (3) years of experience in the operation of water treatment plants. Valid and current Florida Class "B" Water Certification as a minimum, or achievement of certification within one (1) year of employment. Valid Florida Driver's license. A valid out of state License is acceptable, but selected candidates must obtain and provide a valid Florida driver's license within thirty (30) days of start date. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered, provided that the education and experience are in a relevant and related field. About the role As an Auxiliary Operator, you will work in collaboration with our facility control room to operate and inspect various power plant systems safely and efficiently to ensure the operational effectiveness of Reworld's industrial disposal process.
