Job Description Summary/Objective: The Plant Operator oversees and ensures the efficient and productive operations of the assigned Concrete Batch Plant. The Plant Operator may float from plant to plant if not assigned to a specific location. Essential Functions: Assume all responsibilities of the Yard Operator in their absence. Oversee all plant operations and coordinate and monitor daily workload throughout the plant, in addition to monitoring plant cleanliness. Oversee all drivers, operators, and other personnel at the plant. Respond in a timely manner to all employee concerns and/or complaints and escalate concerns and disciplinary action to the Area Production Manager as necessary. Coordinate scheduling with Dispatch and monitor driver activity to ensure customer needs are being met in an efficient manner. Respond to all complaints and concerns in a timely manner. Maintain adequate levels of all supplies and products (i.e., fuel, cement, admixtures, fiber mesh, etc.) and maintain accurate and current reports as required. Ensure that the concrete plant and related equipment are operating properly at all times by inspecting the plant for greasing, checking oil fluid levels, adding grease and oil as required, and keeping plant and equipment clean and free of excess material. Maintain proper levels of aggregates and admixtures, including keeping the hoppers full of aggregates. Notify the Area Production Manager of impending shortages in a timely manner. Ensure compliance with company safety regulations and all company environmental regulations and notify personnel immediately of any potential problems. Take samples and perform tests as necessary and complete required documentation/reports. Inform Technical Services of any quality problems that need resolving. Keep equipment and plant site clean at all times by washing the outside of the plant and equipment whenever necessary, maintaining plant grounding, picking up trash and other items from grounds, and making sure that all equipment is in its proper place. Operate vehicles and equipment in a safe manner. Perform all pre and post-trip inspections and complete daily inspection reports. Follow all environmental regulations and clean up any excess material that could cause environmental problems. Perform miscellaneous duties and outside labor as requested, which may include, but not limited to, cleaning up around the plant, sweeping, shoveling, moving wheelbarrows, picking up equipment or supplies. Non-Essential Functions: Assist with the clean-up of concrete and material spills. Fill in for colleagues (at other locations) as needed. JOB SPECIFICATIONS Work Environment: Work time will be split between indoors/office and outdoors/field Exposure to dust and fumes/offensive smells. Exposure to chemicals such as concrete, chemical admixtures, truck cleaner, grease and oil. Close proximity to moving mechanical parts. Noise level will be moderate to loud. Physical Demands: Lift a maximum weight of 50 lbs., repetitively lift 50 lbs., carry approximately 50 lbs., push/pull approximately 50 lbs., and pinch/grip approximately 25 lbs. Reach overhead and reach away from the body. Sit 4 hours per day, walk 3 hours per day, stand 2 hours per day, and climb or kneel the other 1 hour per day. ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS Experience: Experience operating a front-end loader or other heavy equipment preferred. Special Skills: Written communication, verbal communication, and basic mathematical skills. Basic computer knowledge. Ability to learn and use the company dispatch system, iPad, and company software applications. Able to compute basic material calculations. Able to exhibit a high level of confidentiality. General Job Information This position is located in the Facility Management Division of the Department of General Services (DGS). The Facility Management Division is responsible for the operation and maintenance of single and multiple fuel fired water and/or fire tube boilers and associated auxiliary equipment. The Division functions to ensure that boilers are safe and operating effectively and to ensure the effective and efficient operation of installed heating, hot water, air conditioning, and ventilating systems within designated facilities. This position is considered essential within the Facility Management Division and is responsible on a 24- hour basis for the safe, effective, economical, and efficient operation of installed heating, hot water, air conditioning, ventilating and electrical systems in schools and facilities. Duties and Responsibilities The incumbent supervises and assists lower-level staff, focusing primarily on facility maintenance and regulatory compliance, particularly regarding low-pressure boiler plant operations. A key responsibility is ensuring all preventive maintenance is conducted according to division guidance, which includes routine tasks such as periodic oiling, greasing, repacking bearings, tightening connections, and calibrating utilities. The role involves directing staff in both routine and complex system maintenance, tracking inventory, ordering necessary tools, equipment, and fuel, and preparing work orders for any major repairs that are beyond the team's scope. POSITION OVERVIEW This position is located at the Milliken Chemical Plant located in Gainesville, FL, and reports to a Chemical Supervisor. A Chemical Operator is a key role in the chemical manufacturing processes. Qualified Chemical Operators will be able to work safely as a team in a Chemical Manufacturing Environment, learn chemical processing, and obtain multiple job certifications to progress to top pay. Entry-level associates will be expected to rotate on a 12-hour shift, first-third rotation, and will be expected to learn basic chemical and material handling skills. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Become familiar with all pertinent SOP's and departmental manuals and demonstrate ability to perform chemical operator duties. Develop working knowledge of the setup, operation and cleanup of chemical process equipment; and demonstrate competency in operating assigned vessels in the Pay and Progression path. Become knowledgeable of required paperwork flow, product flow and terminology used in each new production assignment. Learn to properly identify and safely demonstrate how to disassemble, clean, reassemble all process filters utilized in commercial production processes as directed by supervisors. Responsible for process paperwork including SAP, Excel and Label-printing computer system. Maintain assigned work station(s) in a neat and orderly fashion with minimal supervision. Maintain proficiency in proper sampling, weighing and labeling procedures and demonstrate the ability to keep all containers properly identified and labeled at all times. Maintain proficiency in the operation of the following heating and cooling systems, including location of control switches, valves and regulators: City water Tower water Glycol cooling Steam boiler Hot oil heating. Read and understand all written procedures contained in Chemical Process Documents. Demonstrate this ability by completing required procedural batch sheets without error. Demonstrate the ability to work and use time effectively under minimum supervision to accomplish assigned production goals and additional tasks to support safe and clean work environment. Demonstrate proficient and safe drum handling techniques while moving full 55 gallon drums on/off of pallets. Demonstrate proficient and safe cylinder handling techniques while transferring cylinders from one location to another as directed by supervisors. Learn and demonstrate the ability to safely transport and load 25 kg bags of chemicals into various chemical processing equipment by hand. Participate in Process Review Committee meetings to serve as the operator process expert. Demonstrate the ability to work cooperatively with others. Demonstrate the ability to listen to supervisors and follow both verbal and written instructions. Be familiar with and comply with established Milliken Quality Policy. QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED High School Diploma. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, work under pressure, and meet deadlines. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Must be able to climb multiple steps, lift 50 pounds on a regular basis, pass medical clearance, and wear a full-face respirator. Computer experience, Windows-based software. QUALIFICATIONS - PREFERRED High level of computer skills. Prior experience in a chemical or manufacturing environment. Forklift experience. SAP experience. Summary/Objective: The Plant Operator oversees and ensures the efficient and productive operations of the assigned Concrete Batch Plant. The Plant Operator may float from plant to plant if not assigned to a specific location. Essential Functions: Assume all responsibilities of the Yard Operator in their absence. Oversee all plant operations and coordinate and monitor daily workload throughout the plant, in addition to monitoring plant cleanliness. Oversee all drivers, operators, and other personnel at the plant. Respond in a timely manner to all employee concerns and/or complaints and escalate concerns and disciplinary action to the Area Production Manager as necessary. Coordinate scheduling with Dispatch and monitor driver activity to ensure customer needs are being met in an efficient manner. Respond to all complaints and concerns in a timely manner. Overview The Nexus Water Group team has an opportunity for a Lead Water Treatment Operator. This role is under limited supervision, performs routine tasks related to the operation of a water treatment facility. Responsible for maintaining plant compliance with EPA standards and state water Commission. Assists with training of other personnel and leading work crews. Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes and works cooperatively to provide quality seamless utility service. Works with Area Manager and/or State Director to ensure continuity of processes, goals and vision of the company. Work Location and Schedule This position will travel between service areas near Bel Air, MD. Schedule is Monday through Friday. After-hour and weekend on-call support may be required. Must be available to work shift work; weekend scheduling may be required. What you'll do Oversee the operation and maintenance of water treatment equipment, ensuring compliance with state and federal environmental protection limits. Oversee the organization and delegation of team tasks. Develop and maintains operational records and prepares reports in compliance with regulatory standards. Oversee sampling and testing systems, and the functionality of pumps, conveyors, blowers and other equipment. Installs and repairs pumps, motors, valves and piping; diagnoses, repairs and clarifies aeration equipment, ion exchange bins, filtration equipment and other major apparatuses. Monitor and samples well and groundwater upon entry to the system. Adjusts treatment levels when non-standard variances are detected. Samples water prior to exiting system. Detect and reports atypical conditions, such as: identifying damaged, malfunctioning and tampered meters, detecting and reporting leaks, high/low consumption, exposed wiring and other safety hazards. Clean and maintains treatment plant, pumping stations and wells. Conducts ongoing repairs to equipment, or shuts down equipment for more extensive maintenance and repair, activating alternate equipment as needed. Requests services of outside maintenance vendor for major repairs and overhauls. Activates pumps, valves and other processing equipment to move water through various treatment processes. Disposes of waste materials removed from water in line with Company procedures and government controls. Implement emergency procedures in the event of overflow or spill of chemicals or unpurified water. Follows safety protocol and notifies local emergency responders. Add chemicals to water by predetermined formula. Maintains minimum inventory levels of these materials. Read and interprets meters and gauges on central control panel, or at individual machines or stages in the treatment process. Adjust controls as needed. Retrieve computer reports on treatment process. Prepare reports and maintains logs on meter readings, tests, chemical and equipment usage, and all other recordkeeping requirements; maintains various Company records and other reports as required by the state. Back-wash filters and basins; handles chlorine in a safe, effective manner; assures proper working order of chlorine-related equipment. Ensure regulatory compliance and adherence to Company policies and standards. Coordinate construction and excavation involved in system repairs; estimates required labor and materials; identifies equipment needed for all projects; orders necessary parts. Maintain a safe working environment and reports safety concerns to manager. Train personnel in the areas of laboratory analysis, operations and maintenance procedures, as well as compliance to Company policies and procedures. Ensure all operators are equipped with necessary tools, parts and safety equipment to work effectively. Stay abreast of Federal, State and local regulations and environmental guidelines regarding wastewater treatment and distribution. Constant, independent travel daily between worksites on Company time. May assist with training personnel on safety procedures. Assist with overseeing and inspections of local construction projects. Assist with the development of short and long term plans for operation of facilities, including contingency plans as well as plant and equipment removal/replacement. Assist with the design and construction of extension and improvement projects. Provide on-site customer communication. Act as liaison between the customers and customer service. Respond to requests and inquiries from the general public. What you'll bring Experience Requires a minimum of 5 years progressive experience working in utility management or the utility industry. Requires knowledge and experience in the operations, maintenance and processes of water treatment; knowledge of the controls, instrumentation and mechanical equipment in the utility industry; knowledge of standard practices, terminology and safety standards in the utility industry; thorough knowledge of local, state and Federal wastewater regulations; knowledge and experience with the materials and chemicals used in these treatment processes. Education and Certification High school Diploma or GED Holds the minimum licensing to be classified as Operator II with the ability to attain minimum licensing to be responsible operator in charge within 1 year of employment Must maintain a valid driver's license. Nice to Have Currently holds the minimum licensing in order to be responsible operator in charge per state regulation preferred.
