Job ID 6534 Full-Time Regular **SLAC Job Postings** **Responsibilities:** The Cryogenic Division at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory is seeking an Accelerator Technologist III - Cryogenics Plant Operator to support the operation of the Cryogenic Plant (2.0K Helium Refrigeration System) that is part of the LCLS Superconducting Linear Accelerator. You will work under general supervision or under advisement from higher level Accelerator Technologists and perform assignments of intermediate to advanced complexity in instrumentation & controls work and one or more technical areas of mechanical, refrigeration/vacuum, electrical/electronics, etc. all of which are part of the cryogenics plant operator skillsets.
The Technologist III is highly proficient and will independently plan and conduct a block of work as a complete project under managerial oversight, or as a portion of a larger and more diverse project, with strict adherence to site-specific safety as well as work planning and control (WPC). The Accelerator Technologist will be in charge ensuring efficient use of resources and monitoring target dates.
**Given the nature of this position, SLAC will require onsite work.**
**Specific job duties include but are not limited to:**
+ Install, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and calibrate all types of industrial and commercial grade instruments including sensing elements, transmitters, pneumatic and electronic controllers, transducers, and control valves.
+ Use a wide variety of tools and equipment, such as various hand tools, portable electronic test equipment, calibration, and maintenance tools.
+ Maintain, calibrate, diagnose, and repair control system components including programmable logic controllers (PLC), computers, and communication networks.
+ Perform preventative maintenance and functional analysis of control systems.
+ Perform work by following existing operational & Safety procedures and standards; successful completion of required training and applied adherence in the field.
+ Monitor and perform adjustments to control functions for optimal cryogenics system specifications, availability, and efficiency.
+ Maintain equipment operating records and log sheets.
+ Operate and diagnose complex cryogenic system equipment and solve process problems; capable of independent decision making.
+ Collaborate with experimenters, engineers, physicists, and other groups on the design, installation, modification, and performance of cryogenic systems.
+ Perform tests and precision specification measurements on system components and multiple utility support systems.
+ Become proficient and improve multiple operator skills sets; seek thorough understanding of Instrumentation & Controls, mechanical tech and electrical/electronics principles and hardware.

**Qualifications:**
+ H.S./GED or vocational school apprenticeship, plus three years of laboratory or industrial mechanical/electrical experience can be substituted. College, Technical degree, or military training, preferred.

About the role At our Northwest Tennessee Renewable Natural Gas Plant in Union City, TN, we convert landfill gas into pipeline quality natural gas (High Btu or Renewable Natural Gas).
Our Operations Technician operates the landfill gas processing facility.
We process the landfill gas by removing the majority of the non-methane components including CO2, water, sulfur and volatile and non-volatile organic compounds to attain pipeline quality.
The RNG Operator will operate and maintain Landfill gas to High BTU processing facility; which will include Guild gas process, Gas Compressors, CO2 removal system, Thermal-Oxidizers, and H2S removal systems.
We also perform intermediate to sophisticated level Instrument and Control repair, maintenance, calibration and solving.
This site's weekly schedule consists of four 10-hour days; there are two shifts Mon.

Responsibilities

Installs, maintains, and repairs a variety of complex equipment and systems involving high pressure steam generating boilers with complicated components, critical requirements, and rigid tolerances.

Operates and maintains high pressure boilers and their auxiliary equipment controls.
Starts up any boiler, and bring it to the state where it can take its share of the load.
Executes proper boiler blow down procedures and the proper soot blowing procedures.
Operates medical center fire safety codes.
Sets up fire watches till the alarm situation is rectified.
Calls in vendors to perform corrective procedures to get buildings out of alarm status.

Position Purpose:
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Wastewater Plant Operator to oversee the daily operation and maintenance of our wastewater treatment facility. The role includes both inside and outside operations, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, proper use of the filter press, and maintaining the facility's efficiency and safety.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
Inside Operations:
Monitor and adjust plant processes using SCADA systems and other control interfaces.
Analyze data from flow meters, pressure gauges, and analytical equipment to optimize operations.
Perform routine laboratory testing of water samples to ensure compliance with discharge permits.
Document plant performance, operational adjustments, and maintenance activities in logs and reports.
Outside Operations:
Inspect and maintain pumps, valves, clarifiers, aeration tanks, digesters, and other equipment.
Collect samples from various points in the treatment process for laboratory testing.
Perform general upkeep of the plant grounds, including clearing debris and maintaining access areas.

General supervision is provided by the Water Treatment Plant Operations Supervisor and may receive technical direction from the Senior Water Treatment Plant Operator.
Essential Functions - Include But Are Not Limited To The Following:
* Operate all necessary water treatment plant equipment to deliver potable water to the customers including plant flow rate and chemical.
* Compute chemical dosages and flow rates.
* Operate pumps, valves, and other equipment manually and remotely.
* Inspect, adjust, and operate equipment as required.
* Conduct water treatment sampling and process analysis, including jar testing.
* Maintain necessary reports and records.
* Observe and enforce safety rules.
* Under close supervision from Senior Water Treatment Plant Operator, control plant operations using SCADA.
* Maintain proper chemical applications and storage.
* Coordinate the delivery and receipt of plant chemicals and materials.
* Maintain accurate records and prepare reports regarding plant operations and water quality.
* Ensure that all analyzers and monitoring equipment are appropriately sending and storing accurate information via a cyber-secure SCADA system.
* Monitor processes using a SCADA control system.
* Participate in studies related to plant and filter rerating including operation of parallel pilot filters.
* Participate in special projects or studies as assigned.
* Assist with the preparation of technical and administrative reports, and other written documents, including the submittal of all regulatory required reports.
* Build and maintain positive relationships with staff, Cities employees, outside agencies, and the public through clear and concise communication.
* Subject to rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays. On Call may be required.

Training:
Equivalent to a high school education.
Licenses:
* Possession of an appropriate, valid Class C California Driver's License at the time of appointment, to be maintained as a condition of continued employment.
* Possession of a valid California Water Treatment Operator T-2 Certificate at time of appointment with the ability to acquire a Water Treatment Operator T-3 Certificate in 18 months of appointment to the position.
* Possession of a valid California Water Distribution Operator D-2 Certificate at time of appointment

Physical Conditions:

8. Final appointment will be contingent upon passing the following: reference review, medical examination which includes a drug/alcohol screening, hearing exam and vision exam.
VETERAN'S PREFERENCE SYSTEM
The City of Turlock has adopted a veteran's preference system (effective January 1, 2002). The percentage score achieved through an entrance (non-promotional) examination which ranks applicants on an eligibility list shall be adjusted to provide: (a) one (1) percentage point added to the final test score for each six (6) months of active service during a time of armed conflict, up to a maximum of five (5) points, and (b) five (5) percentage points added to the final test score for veterans who are disabled as a result of active military service during a time of armed conflict, regardless of length of service. Performs quality control checks on the equipment to ensure specifications are met. Tests may include pH, specific ions, resistivity, and TDS.
Repairs and helps maintain the bottles/tanks and other service type of equipment, which could include minor valve/PVC repairs, painting, and refurbishing as required.
Prepares resin tanks or mobile equipment by filling empty tanks with regenerated media.
Separates ion exchange resins as required
