You will build talent, address key operational performance challenges and implement sustainable standard practices around lean through the Lean fundamentals Management Systems. This is an operational leadership role reporting into the Business Unit Operations Leader.
You will:
Develop the team to maintain and enhance a competitive edge and service to the customer.Lead safety awareness and implement new and innovative techniques to assure a safe working environment.Establish and maintain high visibility to employees and create a safe environment for participation.Meet and exceed year over year financial targets through active continuous improvement projects and driving material and non-material cost out of the business while driving accountability for the overall P&L.Promote hands-on, high involvement approaches to problem solving.Serve as a critical business leadership representative in the customer escalation process to communicate clearly with key distributors and end-users.Drive a continuous improvement philosophy utilizing the Toyota Production Systems Lean Manufacturing (TPS).Establish a leadership climate that fosters collaboration across the enterprise. **Summary**

Develops productions schedule for the plants including sequencing, routing and scheduling. Ensures the shop floor data collection system has all production orders needed and posted to the correct resource.

**Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities**

Creates and maintains the optimum Master Production Schedule to obtain maximum ROA (Return on Assets) from given facilities meeting both the short and long term goals.Develops schedules to ensure items are sequenced by line, shift and day to ensure "least cost" production.Creates and maintains the optimum inventory profile to ensure fulfillment of customer requirements, taking into account forecast accuracy, schedule and production requirements.Oversees, monitors and maintains planned production orders in database system.Reviews forecast with Demand Planning to review issues such as product mix or capacity constraints.Oversees and converts planned orders into production orders ensuring they are downloaded to correct resource. As necessary, updates production orders with substitutions, alternate resources and sequences Must be able to travel overnight to customer vendor locations and/or plant locations.

**Minimum Education**

Bachelors degree in a related field.

**Experience Requirements**

3 -5 years experience. Knowledge of Manugistics. Must have above average numerate and analytical skills; good computer skills including Microsoft Office suite and database systems. Knowledge of process manufacturing and production process flows. Experience managing multi-level production lead times and shelf life optimization for materials. Good working knowledge of production sequencing and routing.

**Experience Preferred**

Familiarity with ERP manufacturing database systems and related shop floor data collection systems preferred.

**Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements**

Position is mostly sedentary but may require occasional moving to other offices or buildings. When in a plant environment: Exposure primarily consists of wet and moist floors which include metal and plastic grating surfaces.May be exposed to temperatures of 28 degrees to 100 degrees Fahrenheit with both ambient and 100% humidity. May handle product 25 degrees to 50 degrees Fahrenheit. May be exposed to noise ranges of 50 db. to 110 db.May be exposed to all chemicals used in poultry, food, processing facility.Must wear and use protective and safety equipment required for the job as directed by the Company.

Amgen Pilot Plants are flexible, dynamic development spaces that advance innovative manufacturing technologies alongside normal development activities. This facility is largely comprised of single use systems and technologies resembling current and future next generation manufacturing platforms at Amgen. This space is also partially dedicated to testing and evaluating new technologies from area vendors/academics to advance development of new product offerings. Science and engineering are the core remit of Pilot Plant function.

Amgen Pilot Plants perform frequent piloting of novel process operations, driving technology development and innovation, as well as executing bioprocessing operations. We produce sound, relevant data for the processes Amgen developments at meaningful scales that enable the rapid, successful transfer of our output to more dedicated manufacturing spaces.

This Pilot Plant, located in Cambridge, focuses primarily on large molecule cell culture and purification operations, from vial thaw to completion of Drug Substance. It also support innovation across Amgen's entire spectrum. The environment is challenging, fast paced and ever changing but very rewarding for those that like hands on science and want to make process improvements in a development space.

+ Develop new manufacturing technologies through innovation and in collaboration with internal and external partners.

+ Lead the overall team which comprises of an execution team as well as process and automation engineering functions

+ Collaborate with other Amgen Pilot Plants to form alignment in business processes and strategies.

+ Direct plant resources and staff to ensure area and plant performance goals are met, working with our Process Development customers to deliver upon their highest priority needs.

+ Oversee translating bench scale bioprocessing science into manufacturing scale production methods to support the advancement of pre-clinical pipeline programs.

**Development/Production**

+ Ensure a safe environment where staff, support groups and visitors work in a world class Pilot Plant space

+ Lead a team of scientists and engineers to deliver top notch development, processing and innovation results

+ Drive innovation and technology development through experiments, technical reports, presentations and publications

+ Mentor Process Teams by demonstrating strong, applied science and engineering subject matter expertise

+ Work cross functionally with Process Development Process Teams across the full spectrum of large molecule modalities

**Planning and Strategy**

+ Work closely with the Amgen Pilot Plant Network to develop pilot plant operating strategies to meet a high demand and diverse set of programs and projects

+ Define an operating strategy that meets the needs of the Pilot Plant customers

+ Optimize Pilot Plant production performance to allow for fast, flexible processing of multiple product modalities performed in a variety of operating modes with varying durations

+ Ensure that Pilot Plant capabilities and capacity are aligned with PD's current and future needs/expectations, driving expansion or adjustment as Amgen needs evolve

+ Forecast future Pilot Plant resource needs including expense and capital budgeting, staffing and facility needs
