Planters Bank history

In 1922 Union and Planters opened a second branch office, located at Main and Beale.

The main office of the bank today is located in a building constructed for that purpose in 1923.

In September 1924 Union and Planters engineered a reverse split, reducing its capital stock from $3.75 million to $1.87 million, and as a result cut shareholder equity in half.

In 1928 he and his associate, former United States Senator Luke Lea, bought a 51 percent stake in Manhattan Savings Bank and Trust Company in Memphis, then agreed to merge with Union and Planters.

1929: Bank merges with Manhattan Savings Bank and Trust Company.

Vance Alexander at the Helm: 1933-63

J. L. Gaddis, Sr. served as the first president of the bank and was succeeded in 1936 by his son, J. L. Gaddis, Jr.

Following G. B. Cochran's death, Tyson was elected president in January of 1938.

The bank began to expand into a “system” of banks serving the Central Mississippi Delta region when it opened a branch in Indianola, MS in 1940.

Tyson served as a director until 1942.

The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was owned by Daniel M. Taylor and the Campbell and Green families until Gordon Cayce Antiques and Gifts opened there in 1950.

In addition, in the 1960's Frank C. Vann, a well-known Camilla attorney, joined the Board of Directors.

By 1961 Union Planters operated 13 branches and boasted deposits of $400 million.

He continued to hold the position of Chairman until his death in June 1968.

Since July 1971 Jud served as Assistant Cashier, Cashier, Vice President, Corporate Secretary, and Executive Vice President of the P&C Bank before following in both his father's and grandfather's footsteps by becoming President.

In an attempt to better meet the needs of its mobile customers, the bank in 1979 opened its first branch office just east of Raymond.

A one-bank holding company, “Planters Holding Company,” was formed in early 1981.

Emory Judson Vann, IV (Jud) was elected to the positions of President and Chief Executive Officer in December of 1983.

1984: Benjamin W. Rawlins, Jr., takes over as CEO.

In 1987, the bank acquired the stock of the Merchants Bank of Bolton, Mississippi and developed that office into the bank's third location.

Rawlins was replaced as chief executive by bank President Jackson W. Moore, a lawyer who joined Union Planters in 1989.

In late 1992, the bank established its fourth office in nearby Clinton, Mississippi in a temporary location.

The pace was especially aggressive in 1993 when Union Planters picked up 13 banks, adding some $1.5 billion in assets.

Since first opening its doors in 1996 in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, Planters Bank has made a name for itself as an energetic, forward-looking player on the financial services landscape.

Of particular importance was the 1998 $2.3 billion acquisition of Magna Group of St Louis, which not only bolstered Union Planters' position in Missouri but moved it into the new territories of Iowa and Illinois.

2000: Rawlins dies, succeeded by Jackson W. Moore.

Moreover, it only acquired one bank, St Louis-based Jefferson Savings Bancorp, purchased in February 2001.

Since 2006 Susan served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of P & C Bank before following in her father's, grandfather's and great-grandfather's footsteps by becoming President.

Through our most recent history of the bank, Henry A. Logue joined in September 1, 2011 as President and COO and now serves as President and CEO.

In June of 2016 this office was closed and a new updated Drive-Thru Facility with 3 Drive-Thru lanes along with easy access to an ATM was opened across the street from the Main Office on the Historic Raymond Square.

Susan Vann Moss was elected to the positions of President and Chief Executive Officer in January of 2018 with Jud Vann continuing as Chairman of P & C Bank.
