The faculty member should have clinical interests in general plastic surgery, microsurgery, hand surgery, wound management, and have an interest in developing an academic practice. The faculty member will support the division in teaching responsibilities at the VCU Medical Center. Position Responsibilities: Clinical Faculty member clinical responsibility will be in the care of the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery patients on the MCV campus of VCU, as well as community facilities. They will be responsible for the development of an active surgical practice, with the support of the Division and Department's leadership. Teaching Faculty member will have teaching responsibilities in all areas of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery with direct oversight to the resident clinics at the VCU Medical Center. Research Faculty member will establish clinical research projects with medical students and residents to establish evidence based practice outcomes in the areas of complex wounds and surgical education. Service Faculty member will serve on departmental and hospital committees as assigned and participate in regional and national professional organizations. Opportunity to take over a busy and well established practice. The ideal candidate is trained in the full spectrum of cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine evaluations and procedures, including decompressions, single and multi-level cervical, thoracic and lumbar fusions. The current surgeons and physician assistants see more than 300 patients per week in the clinic setting, and the 4 current surgeons perform 900+ spine cases per year. The present surgeons treat a broad range of patients performing procedures on children and adults ranging from single level minimally invasive decompressions to complex 3 column revision osteotomies. The primary clinical site is in Roanoke, Virginia with an outreach clinic at Carilion New River Valley Medical Center, in Christiansburg, VA. The majority of the spine operations are performed at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital a 763-bed academic/tertiary referral medical center with a Level 1 Trauma program. The Carilion Clinic Orthopaedic Surgery Department includes 45+ Physicians and 16 Physician extenders in seven subspecialty sections providing patient centered care throughout the region. Faculty participate in Education of the Medical Students from the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (VTCSOM) as well as off service residents and PA students. Oversight of residents and fellows as well as instruction in General Surgery and applied anatomy and physiology. Clinical Primary clinical responsibility will be in the care of general surgery and low acuity trauma patients at Community Memorial Hospital as well as other VCUHS clinics and operative locations. They will be responsible for the development of an active surgical practice, with the support of the Division and Department's leadership. Research Faculty member may participate in research activities and/or collaborate with others on research projects and endeavors Required Qualifications: * Board Certification or eligibility in general surgery * Commitment to teaching and education of medical students and other trainees * Ability to work in a complex matrixed environment with a high emotional intelligence * Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU Preferred Qualifications: * Teaching experience at the undergraduate or graduate level ORP Eligible: No
