Position Summary
The person in this role is responsible for the safe, accurate, and timely set-up, processing improvements, and troubleshooting of plastic injection molds, tooling and equipment (including auxiliary equipment) operation while ensuring that safety, quality and productivity goals are achieved on a daily basis.
Position Responsibilities
Set-up molds, related tooling and equipment according to daily production schedules; verify equipment is running at required cycle time within specs and quality level prior to releasing for production.
Ensure tools and material are returned to proper locations before leaving workstation.
Evaluate and advise Tool room or Maintenance of problems with tooling or equipment.
Perform first piece inspection and provide QA Tech part for approval after mold changeover.
Troubleshoot equipment processing problems related to product quality.
Complete all required production and quality assurance documentation.
Evaluate, recommend and execute continuous improvement suggestions to improve the operating efficiency as appropriate.
Follow all safety procedures in completion of job duties.
Verify all safety-related devices, machine guarding, signage, etc. are in place and functioning prior to releasing equipment for production.
Wear required PPE.
Participate in 6S events and sustain 6S standards through good housekeeping and execution of standard work including knowledge of lock out, tag out procedures.
Maximize the flow of communication for effective performance within the department and between shifts.
Utilize LEAN Thinking in formal and informal settings including participating in LEAN Events (Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen, Projects, Just-Do-It), submitting Suggestions, attending LEAN Training, and improving work cell/areas of responsibility daily.
Use visual tools and display boards and update them as appropriate.
Document all changes resulting from LEAN activities.
Accept and embrace change necessary for continuous improvement.
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with co-workers by willingness to take on additional responsibility and/or support.

Knowledge and Experience
Three (3) to five (5) years of prior related work experience with plastic injection molding processing and equipment knowledge, set-up and maintenance.
Working knowledge/ability to setup injection molding equipment to achieve desired specification.
Equipment and mechanical aptitude to perform processing, mold and equipment troubleshooting.
Basic computer skills needed with solid understanding of equipment and mechanical aptitude.
Good organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
Ability to work in fast-paced environment and meet operational deadlines while training others.
Flexibility/dependability to meet demands of 24-hour ops. Weekend and/or evenings probable.
Knowledge of lockout/tagout, machine guarding and applicable OSHA/Oatey safety standards.
Experience in tool and die shop preferred.
Familiarity with operating tow motor, scissor lift or crane preferred.

The Composite Technician will work with and around a variety of chemicals and follow all OSHA standards in regards to personal protection equipment. Finally, responsibilities will include maintaining the shop floor free from clutter or debris and other duties as directed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Presents a clean and neat work area to customers - facility cleanliness and general housekeeping.
Participates in continuous improvement of cell processes.
Cross trains in other complementary skills and seeks endorsement for those skills as needed to support production requirements.
Moves between production assignments that utilize multiple skills endorsements as needed to support production requirements.
Participates in the cross training of other technicians as needed to support production requirements.
Responsible for observing all applicable safety requirements and reporting immediately any unsafe practices/conditions.
Basic Qualifications:
Must be authorized to work in the US.
Have the ability to read, write and perform basic math calculations.
Be able to work well with others.
Ability to read, understand and interpret blueprints.
1+ year of experience with hand tools such as grinder, sander, file, etc.
Ability to lift up to 20 pounds (unassisted) for approximately 25% of the average work day.
Regularly required to sit for prolonged periods.
Preferred characteristics:
Prior MRO/Military Component Repair experience desired.
Prior experience with auto body, metal fabrication and engine repair helpful.
Working knowledge of related company instructions, company processes, rework process instructions, original equipment manufacturer manuals, and MSDS labels.
Experience with precision measuring instruments.

Core Duties
• Fabricate and QC composite test specimens
• Operate and maintain Instron and MTS test systems
• Develop and run test methods using Bluehill Universal and MTS Testworks 4
• Assemble and maintain high-pressure (3000 psi) hydraulic and compressed air systems
• Calibrate and troubleshoot test instrumentation(strain gages, LVDTs, extensometers)
• Implement and monitor lab safety, quality, and scheduling practices
• Support lab documentation and reporting in accordance with ISO 9001:2015 standards
Minimum Qualifications:
T3
• Associate degree in Mechanical or Electro-Mechanical Engineering or similar
• Minimum of 8 years of hands-on experience in a mechanical testing lab
• Proficiency in mechanical assembly, fabrication, and use of lab tools
• Basic knowledge of electrical signals and electromechanical troubleshooting
• Familiarity with ASTM composite test standards
• Working knowledge of algebra, trigonometry, and unit conversions
• Skilled with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
• Strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills
• Due to the requirements of our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be a U.S. citizen
A T4 must meet all T3 minimum qualifications in addition to the qualifications listed below.
• 12+ years of relevant experience
• Leadership or supervision of technical staff
• Advanced experience in composite layup, machining, and testing
• Extensive experience with data acquisition systems and instrumentation
• Strong familiarity with industry standards and testing best practices
Preferred Qualifications:
While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:
• 10+ years of experience in composites or testing laboratories
• C-SCAN NDE Level 1 or 2 certification
• Experience with ISO 9001:2015, NADCAP, or A2LA quality systems
• Data reduction and analysis expertise
• Basic machine shop skills, tool and jig design experience
• Advanced troubleshooting of electromechanical systems

What you can expect as a Composite Technician at DAS Aviation:
As Composite technician repairs parts/components by means of "Wet Layup" and "Prepreg". Some repairs must be facilitated using a clean room and cured by means of an autoclave or controlled oven. Types of Composite bonding methods utilized in repair may consist of: Co-curing, Co-bonding, secondary bonding, metal bonding, with adhesives in liquid form, and film.
You will be ESSENTIAL to many FUNCTIONS including:
Capable to use close tolerance measuring tools (i.e., scales, micrometers, calipers, depth gages, etc.).
Capable to use hand tools (i.e., drill motors, die grinders, rivet guns, fastener installation tools, etc.).
Ability to perform alignment/assembly using jig, templates and fixtures.
PPE must be used when cutting, grinding, blending, and sanding
Extensive use of bagging materials
Able to properly bag for a wide range of component shapes and styles.
Capable of using a "Hot-Bonder" type machine cure procedure.
Maintenance, cleaning and repair of shop facilities, equipment and tooling when required.
Safely operate shop equipment such as: curing oven, autoclave, vacuum
Basic computer skills to be able to navigate electronic training, manuals, and maintenance data bases
Effectively and clearly communicate (i.e., speak, write, read) in English
Any other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor or management.

Your Education:
A High school diploma or equivalent. Airframe and Powerplant License is not required, but welcome. A valid driver's license approved for airline travel and/or a valid passport is ideal, but not mandatory.
