Engineering requirement - Specific to product design (i.e. fluid and thermo dynamics, heat transfer, 3D CAD design, formulation design, compounding, testing)

Hands-on experience requirement - Plastic parts design, formulation design, compounding, parts prototyping and testing - Surface coatings processes (e.g. roll coating, Ink Jet printing, lamination) - Testing equipment (e.g. impact tester, Taber test, Adhesion tester - Characterization methods (e.g. FTIR, TGA, DSC, DMA)

Have extensive knowledge within the field of engineering specific to product development (i.e. fluid dynamics, thermo dynamics, heat transfer, design, project management and relevant related topics). Stays abreast within engineering field.

Must be a self-starter, with demonstrated autonomy, able to handle unexpected events and take advantage of opportunities to achieve results that consistently exceed expectations

Must perform as a flexible team member and be a proficient leader and developer of people

Must be able to work successfully and lead in team efforts - experience in cross functional team leadership and/or participation.

Proficient in MS Office and other applicable drawing/design software related to specific Engineering field.

Knowledge and experience in 3D modeling simulation software is desired.

Must have strong knowledge in the scientific method.

some working knowledge of Lean manufacturing, Agile methodology, and basic financial accounting knowledge is a plus.

Ability to interpret a variety of technical data furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form, and deal with several abstract, conceptual variables.

Ability to travel to job sites (domestically and internationally, if required) for new product evaluation or to review existing product issues.

We are seeking a full-time CMF Engineer for our office in Olathe, KS. In this role, you will be responsible for collaborating with designers, engineers, and suppliers to forecast, develop, and implement color, material, and finish plans to drive innovation into Garmin Products.
Essential Functions

* Manage a sustainable CMF innovation portfolio for a wide variety of consumer products
* Select, design, and evaluate polymeric materials to determine the right materials for specific applications
* Ensure CMF technology pipeline to support product design and business needs
* Satisfy and inspire customers through creative design, product development and manufacturing
* Collaborate with CMF designers, suppliers, engineers, and manufacturers worldwide
* Stay current on advances in material innovation and integrate/validate new CFM technologies
* Manage and analyze new materials, colors, finishes for relevant market segments
* Match and develop new color matches across a variety of materials and own the color & finish matching process
* Establish and maintain a color and material library and work with the team to create color and material targets
* Present and communicate CMF explorations
* Own the color and finish matching process from end to end

Basic Qualifications

* Bachelor's Degree in Materials Science, Polymer Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field AND a minimum of 9 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
* Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
* A curiosity for new CMF innovation, technology, process, design and future living
* Proficiency in the latest materials, finishes and various manufacturing processes
* Capability to push new boundaries, work extremely well in multi-disciplinary global teams, able to speak up, anticipate technical challenges and plan ahead
* Experience with polymer characterization methods (mechanical testing, thermal analysis, rheology, spectroscopy) and the underlying theory
* Experience with failure analysis and related technologies
* Experience with injection molding process, tooling of thermoplastics required
* Ability to look beyond the immediate problem and generate new and innovative solutions to complex problems
* Strong communication skills with the ability to share technical knowledge with non-technical partners in a clear and meaningful way, as well as any challenges and constraints
* Strong project management skills to drive new technology programs to deliver qualified solutions from concept to manufacturing
* Demonstrates proficient knowledge of a wide variety of materials and manufacturing methods including, but not limited to: plastic, silicone, metals, coatings, and more
* Demonstrated proficient presentation skills and strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

**Responsibilities** :

* Design various plastic components and systems for various vehicle platforms including exterior body components, trim, seating, bumpers, and flooring\.

* Develop and release engineering component and assembly drawings\.

* Select materials based on functional and cost\-based criteria and develop into manufacturing methods for plastic parts\.

* Create, utilize, and maintain plastic product functional specifications, material specifications, and design standards\.

* Create and maintain DFMEAs and create test and analysis plans for product validation\.

* Interpret Finite Element Analysis \(FEA\) on components and assemblies for stress and provide design solutions to high stress areas\.

* Understand and apply GD&T for tolerance analysis and drawing creation\.

* Perform root cause analysis and resolve test issues to document solutions\.

* Perform cross functional design reviews and Design for Assembly \(DFA\) and Design for Manufacturing \(DFM\) assessments on components and assemblies\.

* Support elements of quality assurance and PPAP process requirements\.

* Understand the characteristics of materials to choose the most appropriate Thermoplastic, Thermoset, or rubber material for an application and process, including additives and modifiers\.
