Lab Infrastructure Engineer
Meter 4.1
San Francisco, CA jobs
Every firmware release we ship runs through our QA lab. The faster and more reliable that lab is, the faster Meter innovates. You'll own the physical and logical backbone that powers testing across all our products, from PDUs and Firewalls to Access points, enabling our quality and engineering teams to ship high-quality firmware faster.
What success looks like
In your first 6 months, you'll have designed, built, and stabilized several new lab test pods, automated provisioning and monitoring, and eliminated bottlenecks in test setup. By month 12, you'll have transformed the lab into a scalable, reliable environment that supports continuous testing and real-world topology emulation.
What your day-to-day will look like
Build and expand test pods, racks, and network infrastructure for quality engineering and development testing.
Cable, label, and configure switches, firewalls, PDUs and end devices; document all topology changes.
Automate device provisioning, end device (Raspberry Pi, Macbooks, Windows) OS upgrades, and topology setup.
Monitor lab utilization, uptime, and pod health; create Grafana / Hex dashboards to surface health metrics.
Collaborate closely with quality engineers, developers, and IT to troubleshoot and scale the lab environment.
Who you are
You love to build things that others depend on and you get satisfaction from seeing order emerge from chaos: racks labeled perfectly, cables routed cleanly, devices online and talking to each other.
You're part network engineer, part builder, and part problem-solver. When something doesn't work, you don't just reboot. You dig in, diagnose, and fix it. You take pride in precision, reliability, and scalability. You are primarily a network engineer with the following attributes:
Lab management or infrastructure operations experience.
Strong understanding of L2/L3 networking, VLANs, and routing protocols.
Comfortable with Linux systems, device configuration, racking equipment and network cabling.
Experience automating network or lab operations using scripting (Python, Bash).
Hands-on and organized.
Why Meter?
The internet runs the world. Every purchase you make, video call you join, it's all packets flowing through networks. But those networks haven't changed for decades. They're brittle, complex, and surprisingly hard to set up in an enterprise space.
We started Meter to build better networks. We had to build everything from the ground-up: designing and building our own enterprise hardware, intuitive software, and streamlined operations to deliver great outcomes for our customers. Today, we build and deploy these networks at scale. Ambitious companies and enduring institutions like Bridgewater, Lyft, Reddit, rely on Meter to keep their thousands of employees and locations online and productive.
Our bet with Meter is simple: we will all use the internet more than we do today. We believe we have the definitive networking stack in place to enable business to do so as seamlessly and reliably as any modern utility.
By applying to this job you acknowledge that you've read and understood Meter's Job Applicant Privacy Notice.
