Built in 1822, the original Carpenter house was situated on property once owned by Jerimiah Murry, the founder of Murrysville, Westmoreland County, PA. The sturdy two story log house served as residence of the Murry/Carpenter family for 136 years.

The house was dismantled and rebuilt at Point State Park for the City of Pittsburgh Bi-centennial celebration in 1958.
In 1958 the house and property were sold to Allegheny County as a part of the newly created Boyce Park.
