Measure, cut and thread tubing and piping according to detail drawings and information. Measure, cut and bend by hand tubing to detailed drawings and information or from preformed sample. Load, operate, and unload pipe benders to bend pipe to specification where layout of piping and setup of machine stops and locating fixtures has already been completed. Clean piping and tubing arrangements for welding. Make proper time charge entries and record data as required.. Identify parts in accordance with method specified.. Maintain tools, equipment and work area in a clean and orderly condition. Perform other work of equal or lower classification as

Basic Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent GED.
A Minimum of 1 year of related experience operations/manufacturing environment

JOB PURPOSE:
This job series describes positions in which the major responsibilities are a variety of plumbing duties performed at the journey level, as well as steamfitter work performed inside buildings on medium and low-pressure steam and condensate systems.
The duties listed under the Characteristic Duties section are designed to provide a representative sampling of key tasks and/or responsibilities associated with the job. They are not intended to be a complete list of all the duties performed by employees in the classification.
Responsibilities:
Work may include any plumbing function as described in the Uniform Plumbing Code and Uniform Mechanical Code. Work is done on pipes of various materials, such as brass, steel, cast iron, copper, glass, or plastic, and of various sizes. In addition, plumber/steamfitters are expected to perform extensive preventive maintenance, as well as to provide emergency response actions when needed in all areas of responsibility.
Duties are assigned by a shop supervisor or lead and are performed with considerable independence. Work will be spot-checked during an assignment or upon its completion.
A minimum of 30% of an employee's duties must be steamfitter-related responsibilities.
Core Duties (Steam fitting):
Install, maintain, repair, and troubleshoot problems on medium and low pressure steam and condensate systems, including convectors, radiators, coils and heat exchangers, steam tables, sterilizes, autoclaves, traps, automatic and manual valves, strainers, and pumps
May perform plumbing-related welding if qualified as a certified welder.
Core Duties (Plumbing):
Install, maintain, and repair domestic hot and cold water systems, including heating systems, boilers, hot water tanks, heat exchangers, radiators, valves, and pumps
Install and maintain chilled water systems and related equipment, including pumps, valves, regulators, coils and strainers
Install, maintain and repair all types of plumbing fixtures, such as faucets, sinks, bathtubs, toilets, water heaters, and garbage disposals
Inspect plumbing systems for malfunctions. Tum systems off safely and make repairs as needed
Cut, bend, solder, thread, and assemble pipes and fitting
Join pipes by using flanges, fittings, solder, glue, or welding
Install, clean, maintain, and repair sanitary sewer lines and storm drainage systems, using hand or power tools
Install and repair pipe insulation systems
Maintain and repair fire protection sprinkler systems, including pipes and sprinkler heads
Install and repair gas lines and related equipment.
Qualifications:
Must be skilled in the use of the tools, materials, and equipment of the plumbing trade
Must have sufficient training and experience to qualify as a journeyman plumber (approximately five years of work in the trade, including time spent in an apprenticeship or vocational training program)
Must also have experience in medium and low-pressure steam systems
Must have knowledge of the physical properties of steam and condensate and the equipment used in maintaining these systems
In addition, plumber/steamfitters may be required to use respiratory equipment and to work in confined spaces or in high elevations.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience:
Journey level knowledge equivalent to four years of completion in an apprentice program or a combination of equivalent education and work experience. Four years of actual work in the plumber/steamfitter trade
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Skilled in the use of the tools, equipment and methods of the trade.
Understanding of complex troubleshooting and repair of plumbing, hydronic, steam systems
Knowledge of the physical properties of steam and condensate and the equipment used in maintaining these systems.
May be required to use respiratory equipment.
Thorough knowledge of all types of materials and processes of the trade
Ability to work from plans and specifications
Knowledge of all applicable codes of the trade
Respond to emergency calls nights, weekends, and holidays
Willing to work variable shifts at night or on weekends
Demonstrated strong communication skills (both verbal and written)
Certifications and Licenses:
Must possess and maintain a valid California Non-commercial Class C Driver's license.
Preferred: Possess a journeyman card in plumbing/steam fitting or other recognized technical credential.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to obtain and maintain a California Non-commercial Class C license.
Must be able to work in confined spaces or in high elevations.

Job Summary
Reporting to the Housing Operations Manager, with additional lead work direction provided from other members of the Facilities Management team, it is the responsibility of the Plumber to install, maintain and repair water, waste and gas systems at Sonoma State University. The position completes routine work orders, remodeling projects and responds to emergencies in campus buildings and university owned properties. Key Qualifications
This position requires the incumbent to perform abilities normally acquired through any combination of progressively responsible training and experience which demonstrates achievement journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of a standard plumber's apprenticeship program. Thorough knowledge of methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the operation and repair of plumbing, waste and gas distribution systems. Requires knowledge of applicable state and federal health and safety orders and regulations pertaining to the plumbing trade, including the California State Safety Orders of the Division of Industrial Safety and the California State Plumbing codes. Experience with water distribution and treatment systems, as well as D1/2 or T1/2 certification is preferred. The ability to weld and fabricate metal in a variety of thicknesses and media as well as certification in asbestos abatement would be desirable. Possession of a valid backflow prevention license or the ability to obtain a license within 12 months of employment. The incumbent must successfully complete a pre-placement exam and must possess and/or obtain and thereafter maintain a California Driver's License valid for the operation of any vehicle or equipment required to maintain and operate. Beginning proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) required. Knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems and PeopleSoft preferred.
Salary and Benefits
This is a full time, non-exempt position, which will lead toward permanent status following the successful completion of a probationary period. The CSU Classification Step Range for this position is $5,998 - $8,737 per month (step 1 - step 20). Step placement will be determined based on relevant qualifications and professional experience. Step placement upon appointment is not expected to exceed Step 5, $6,492 a month.
This position is eligible for a broad range of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurances, retirement (CalPERS), tuition waiver, vacation and sick leave. In addition, 15 paid holidays are offered each year. Sonoma State University is also a Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF) Employer.

Essential Job Functions
* Servicing work orders at various commercial and industrial locations within Plano and surrounding areas.
* Troubleshooting and servicing commercial plumbing fixtures and systems, including main lines, roof drains, valves, water closets, and lavatories
* Responding to emergency service requests
* Preparing bids, field sketches, and bills of materials to complete larger scopes of work requiring return trips
* Plan, layout, and complete scopes of work according to job specifications and code requirements
* Communication with the companys management team and its customers
* Properly photographing existing job site conditions and work completion
* Documenting daily work activity and responding to management team inquiries
* Responsible for keeping an updated inventory of all tools assigned to you and ensuring they are in good working condition.
* Responsible for working safely, adhering to all aspects of our Health, Safety, and Environmental Program, and supporting all Company safety efforts.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
Education, Experience, and Skills
* 5 years of commercial/industrial plumbing experience or a combination of field experience and education in the trade.
* Must have excellent troubleshooting experience in commercial and industrial plumbing systems and fixtures
* Should have a variety of construction skill sets including but not limited to basic electrical, carpentry, drywall, and painting
* Must have a flexible schedule and be willing to work some nights and weekends as needed at company expense.
* May also be required to travel and stay near job sites overnight occasionally
* Excellent attendance, dependability, and reliability are essential
* Expected to be able to work independently and with others depending on the scope of work
* Must be able to complete the scope of work according to industry quality standards and within prescribed time frames
* Ability to communicate effectively with the companys clients, its management team, and other field employees
* Must be able to perform general physical activities common to construction (i.e., climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials)
* Must be able to operate company-provided service truck and other equipment safely
* Must have basic computer skills, i.e., taking photos with a cell phone, sending and reading emails
* Must have own hand tools.

Responsibilities
* Roto-Rooter plumbing apprentices/service technicians utilize their skills to provide effective solutions for plumbing and drain issues, ensuring customer satisfaction.
* A plumbing service call starts with diagnosing issues and offering cost estimates to finalize the transaction.
* Make the necessary repairs for the customer.
* Document estimates and invoices, both in writing and on a provided smart phone.
* Collect payment and move on to the next service call.
Requirements

* Effective communication skills.
* A mechanical aptitude and solid problem-solving skills are desirable, but prior experience is not necessary.
Service technicians are paid an hourly rate of $17.00 to $24.00 during training. After training, they are paid an hourly rate at or above the minimum wage for all hours worked. The hourly pay rate may vary, depending on whether the pay is for base pay paid at the employee's base hourly rate (minimum wage), or administrative pay for administrative hours worked (between minimum wage and $77.92) . Service technicians also have the potential to earn commissions at the rate of 16-22% of revenue depending on the revenue category. Commissions ranging from $10 to $139 can also be earned for selling products and treatments.
