They operate shop machines to cut and thread pipe and pipe fittings. Pipefitters connect pipes to fixtures and test systems for leaks, ensuring that the system meets specifications. An experienced pipefitter will often work with an apprentice, sometimes called a tacker/helper. The position is characterized by problem solving and precision work. To be successful in this type of work, a pipefitter must be able to perceive pertinent detail in objects or blueprints. The above description is general in nature. A pipefitter may be required to perform additional duties not specifically described herein. HOURS: Typical hours for Pipefitter range from 40 to 70 hours per week. The pipefitter will weld pipe support brackets, connect pipes to fixtures and, to a lesser degree, fabricate lengths of piping systems onboard or within vessel modules. Physical Demands: Heavy items are positioned with a chainfall, overhead crane, or a come-along. Standing is again considered constant and walking occasional. Because workers commonly work in pairs, the 40lb maximum can generally be observed. The heaviest come-along can weigh in the 75lb range and could be handled occasionally during the course of a day, depending upon the job. Essential Function: An additional function is that the pipefitter is responsible for testing installed systems to ensure specifications utilizing hydrostatic and other pressurized equipment. We are looking to hire several Pipefitters to join our self-perform team for ongoing work in Charleston, South Carolina. All work is to be performed on the military base and is paid the required Davis-Bacon prevailing wage, specific to the Charleston military base. Pay:$45.35 - 48.00 per hour Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, 401(K) with Match Our Pipefitters will be responsible for the assembly, installation, and planning of all piping systems on an active construction site, ensuring that work is done in accordance with relevant codes. Work involves technical application of pipefitting principles. This is all to be done using the appropriate equipment and implementing the required safety practices in support of RQ's Mission, Vision, and Values. Requirements for this position include: * High school diploma or G.E.D. is the minimal education required for this position. * 4 or more years (or equivalent) field or trade work experience as a journeyman-level pipefitter in a commercial, or facilities operations setting is required; government, military, or large commercial construction experience preferred. * Mechanical Pipe Installation * Deep underground experience * Start-up and Energizing Experience (Boilers, Chillers) * Valid Pipefitter license or journeyman card is preferred. * Current Welding certificate. * CPR, First Aid, and OSHA-10 certifications preferred. Key Responsibilities: * Conduct routine inspections and testing of wet, dry and pre-action systems fire sprinkler systems, to identify and address any issues or deficiencies, as per NFPA 25 requirements * Prepare detailed reports documenting inspection findings, test results, and any related deficiencies or non-compliance issues observed, in accordance with NFPA codes and standards. * Test and evaluate system functionality of sprinkler heads, valves, piping, pumps, and control systems. * Inspect piping, fittings, and connections for signs of corrosion, leaks, or damage, recommending necessary repairs or replacements * Perform maintenance tasks on fire sprinkler systems, such as replacing damaged or malfunctioning components, cleaning pipes and sprinkler heads, lubricating moving parts, and adjusting system settings to ensure optimal performance * Inspect Fire pump assemblies, including testing flow rates, pressure levels, and mechanical integrity * Respond promptly to service calls and emergency requests, diagnosing problems and implementing solutions to restore system functionality. * Document all service activities accurately and thoroughly, including inspection reports, work orders, and parts usage, and customer notes, using the Service Trade operations platform. * Work closely with Deficiency Sellers to provide detailed inspection reports, material needs, and other job-related notes, to prepare and deliver repair estimates in a timely manner * Interact professionally with clients to schedule work, discuss inspection findings, address any concerns or questions, and provide recommendations for system upgrades or improvements * Work closely with Service Coordinator(s) to optimize work orders, material requisitions, and job scheduling, focusing on efficiency, productivity, and customer satisfaction. * Maintain a clean and organized work environment, always adhering to safety guidelines, protocols, and procedures.
