This is a full-time, year-round position in which apprentices are paid employees of Bates College. Installs various types of insulation and pipe covering; safely removes and properly discards of old coverings according to hazardous waste procedures and in accordance with EPA and OSHA requirements. Inspects pipes, testing for pressure and leaks; reports and/or resolves problems. Coordinates with manager to schedule machinery maintenance, repairs, and installation to minimize disruption to operations. Complies with applicable safety and building codes, regulations and best practices. Maintains records, including safety logs and inspection details. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Successful completion of a four-year apprenticeship that included classroom and on-the-job instruction in pipefitting or related field. Required state licenses Ability to read schematics and blueprints. Ability to use a variety of tools, which may include blowtorches, saws, pipe benders, and welding torches.
