The presentation first reflected on Doctor MacNeil’s vision for Plymouth Harbor, which was realized on January 15, 1966, when Plymouth Harbor first opened its doors to community residents, then transitioned into present and future community initiatives.
He was selected to replace Alan Switzer, Plymouth Harbor’s first administrator, who retired at the end of 1971.
After his service, he moved to Sarasota to join a pulmonary and critical care medicine practice in 1979.
She practiced law for several years before joining The Northern Trust Company, Chicago, in November of 1984 as a senior tax analyst in Estate Tax Services.
In 1984 Jay moved to Sarasota, Florida and spent 12 years traveling and managing worldwide, special access international defense projects for Fairchild Weston and its successors, Loral Aerospace – Lockheed Martin.
In 1985, she assumed the position of personal trust administrator until Kathy was invited to join the team of professionals introducing Trust and Financial Services at the Northern Trust Bank’s offices in Oak Brook, Illinois.
Beginning with the installation of solar heating for the outdoor pool in 1992, updates to existing amenities and technology became a main focus.
In 1994, the Plymouth Harbor Dining Room was completely redone with a $1.2 million renovation.
Doctor Larry R. Thompson, President of Ringling College of Art and Design since July 1999, champions the need for businesses to embrace creativity to thrive in the 21st century global economy.
Over the next decade, he gradually stopped the active practice of medicine to become the first Patient Safety Officer at SMH. In 2004, he was honored to be selected as the founding dean for the Florida State University College of Medicine – Sarasota Campus.
In 2007, Jeff founded J.E. Charlotte Construction Corporation, specializing in General Contracting and Construction Management with focus on commercial offices, medical offices and retail construction projects in southwest Florida.
He has also served with the Girls Inc. of Sarasota in a fundraising capacity and in 2007 Jay and his wife Leslie were both honored the Girls Inc.
Kathy Hendricks spent the last 25 years of her career with Northern Trust Company, retiring in 2009 as a Vice President and Managing Director in Trust Administration.
The Plymouth Harbor Foundation was established in 2012 to further ensure the appropriate stewardship of contributed funds, develop fundraising strategies that support the most positive aging experience possible, and provide funding for innovative programs and services in the region.
In 2014 alone, Plymouth Harbor residents and staff completed 10,486 hours of volunteer service, as indicated in The Plymouth Harbor Foundation 2014 Impact Report.
SARASOTA, June 4, 2015 – Plymouth Harbor on Sarasota Bay, a not-for-profit continuing care community of distinction for older adults, celebrated its first annual MacNeil Day on Friday, May 29, 2015.
Plymouth Harbor was awarded the Investing in Our Future Award at the 2015 Salute to Business Awards, hosted by the Sarasota Chamber of Commerce.
